Many Americans have lost hope for the future, while others believe anything is feasible. I believe that one of the significant topics in America today is the deep pessimism about America’s future, regardless of where you end up on the political spectrum. I acknowledge why people feel, believe and think this way, the separations in this nation seems insuperable. It is perceived that the United States isn’t “united”. Our country has subdued many obstacles and every generation has had conflicts that seemed impossible to vanquish. We Americans don’t realize how lucky we are to have the freedom of religion, speech, press, and liberty. There are many individuals in other countries who don’t possess these freedoms. There are many topics that need to be resolved in our country. For example in the future, we need to create more jobs. There are several individuals without jobs. When a person has no job and has a family to take care of they end up committing crimes. We also need to increase and create better wages for the employers. An average worker does not make enough money to take care of their family. They can’t survive off $20,0000 dollars a year. Another topic in America that we need to resolve is immigration. Many Americans complain that many immigrants are taking their jobs. We need to …show more content…
Global warming has escalated at the fastest rate in recorded history. We Americans don’t realize how much CO2 is produced every year. The burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest provenance heat-trapping pollution. The United States comes in second of producing large amounts of CO2. Many climate changes have occurred due to the burning of fossil fuels. We need to reduce the burning of fossil fuels and start utilizing clean energy. Us Americans need to stop utilizing gas-operated cars instead we should use battery operated cars which is better for the
Global warming is caused by the after effects of fossil fuels, what then causes greenhouse gases. Representative Chellie Pingree who is the D-ME 1st District states, “There is an incredible renewable energy resource off both coasts of this country - wind and tidal energy that can power our economy, create good paying jobs and reduce greenhouse gas pollution.” This is a present day solution for preventing global warming. We need to take advantage of nature and use it for renewable energy. This means that it can decrease foil fuels, and increase the amount of electric items such as, cars, motorcycles, tractors, snowmobiles, lawnmowers, and it can even be going as far as airplanes. In conclusion, America has to use renewable energy where ever they
Climate change poses a serious threat to Earth and its inhabitants. There is now substantial evidence that human activity is causing global warming because of our large emissions of greenhouse gases. For instance, atmospheric carbon dioxide currently measures at three hundred and ninety seven parts per million, which is the highest it has been for at least the past one million years (National Research Council of the National Academies). Also, scientific data shows that Earth’s average surface temperature has increased more than 1.7 Fahrenheit over the past one hundred years (National Research Council of the National Academies). The evidence is unequivocal that our activities are the main culprit to the disruption of the climate system. In 2013, the top four emitters of carbon dioxide totaled to fifty-eight percent of entire global emissions (Loiseau). Among these four, China is the largest, accounting for twenty-eight percent (Loiseau). The United States accounted for fourteen percent; The EU accounted for ten percent; And India accounted for seven percent (Loiseau). Specifically, China’s total annual carbon dioxide emissions amounted to a massive 8.3 billion metric tons while the United States emitted 5.4 billion metric tons annually (Loiseau). India followed China and the United States with just over 2 billion metric tons emitted annually (Loiseau). This data could, however, be somewhat misleading. For example, even though China does emit the most, it only emits 6.2 metric
Throughout American history, we have been through some difficult times, but our hope for the future is that we will work together, put others’ before ourselves, and be prepared for what will happen.
”The IPCC predicts that increases in global mean temperature of less than 1.8 to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit (1 to 3 degrees Celsius) above 1990 levels will produce beneficial impacts in some regions and harmful ones in others. Net annual costs will increase over time as global temperatures increase.” Our electricity usage is huge which is ok, but the way it's being made is bad. ”The electric power sector accounted for 32% of U.S. total greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. Greenhouse gas emissions from electricity have increased by about 11% since 1990 as electricity demand has grown and fossil fuels have remained the dominant source for generation.” Droughts in the southwest have gotten much worse and longer. ”Droughts in the Southwest and heat waves (periods of abnormally hot weather lasting days to weeks) everywhere are projected to become more intense, and cold waves less intense everywhere.” The rate that carbon dioxide is being put into the environment is crazy and this needs to slow down. ”The rate at which carbon dioxide is being dumped into the environment is 1000 tons per second until the 2011
Today carbon emissions are the highest they have been in the world since the industrial revolution and if we don't change, we could destroy whole ecosystems. According to recent studies the united states is the leading producer of carbon emissions in the world. We need to address the issue and start a cause for change before everything is damaged.
In 1979, the first World Conference on Climate was held, which included many scientists that warned about the affects human activity has on climate change (DiMento 35). Climate change is not only affecting human health but the earth as well, for example; scientists now predict the Artic sea may be ice-free in the summer between 2030 and 2050, which is decades earlier than predicted (DiMento 46). Greenhouse gases are warming the earth which the earth’s temperature is rising thus causing not only ice and snow to melt faster, but sever heat waves as well. Other issues with climate change include, drought, as well as more snow and rain hitting certain areas of North American than normal. To be able to stop climate change, there needs to be changes made to the way people live and use fossil fuels. The best place to start a change in the U.S. would be to adopt a carbon tax. A carbon tax is a pollution tax or a fee for the production, distribution or use of fossil fuels. The United States should adopt a carbon tax because it would improve the economy, encourage to use alternative fuels, and reduce the production of carbon dioxide.
This is a problem for the environment all around us, and the wildlife too. The effects that we are making are long-term and can last for generations, they can also become deadlier. If we do not change the way that we produce energy then we will soon be seeing; more disease, less habitable and farmable land, and less available resources (“Impacts of Global Warming”). So now that we’ve looked at why Global Warming is a problem, here’s what we can do to
Global Warming as a subject is a very common one in today’s subjects of conversation. Man had been so caught up with the civilization advancements, that we did not realize how much damage we were doing to the Earth, until recently, where soon it can be too late. Though many people quickly disregard this problem, as being not a significant danger in their lifetime, soon as years go on and if we do not change our ways, the Earth may not be the lush, green planet as our astronauts from space see it today. Now the question has to be asked, is global warming a legitimate problem in today’s society, and if it is, what can we do to stop it?
The earth is warming. No credible scientist will deny this fact. Certain gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide, trap and absorb the sun’s energy and re-radiate that thermal radiation in all directions, which causes the Earth’s surface to warm. This is known as the greenhouse effect, which is another undeniable fact. The greenhouse effect is not a new concept, however the media portrays its influence to be entirely harmful on the climate. Most people fail to realize that if greenhouse gases were absent in the atmosphere, the average global temperature would drop to -18°C (Farley 69-75). It is safe to assume that the greenhouse effect is vital to human lifestyle and existence because without greenhouse gases the oceans would be completely sheeted by ice and the entire biosphere would be dramatically different. On the other hand, an overabundance of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere could also prove to dramatically change Earth’s environment by flooding most of the land on earth and then leading to a possibly massive drought. Humanity as a whole needs to realize that the emissions released during human activity, especially carbon dioxide, are greatly affecting the climate. While looking at concrete facts, even though a 1500-year natural earth cycle is evident, the fastest temperature increase in recorded earth history cannot be disregarded, and neither can the melting ice caps due to increasing atmospheric carbon
Global warming has been a hot topic worldwide for over a decade. While many believe it is a problem that needs to be tended to immediately, others believe or claim for political reasons that it is just propaganda. Global warming is described by Bodnar as “The increase in temperature around the world caused by gases in the atmosphere.” (Bodnar 7) Many scientists believe that carbon dioxide gases are the main cause of Global Warming. Things such as old factories and cars emit greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere when they are put to use. This generally comes from old cars and old factories made before the nineteen nineties, because in recent years technology has been manufacturing more eco-friendly cars and factories that produce less waste. Since the discovery of global warming there have been many technological advances made in an attempt to try put a stop to global warming such as the use of wind power, solar power, and hybrids.
The earths average surface temperature has risen by 0.76 degrees Celsius since 1820. Much of the rising has happened within the last 50 years (Climate Change). The “greenhouse effect” is the global trend responsible for the increase in surface temperature. Water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and chlorofluorocarbons being the main factors of the greenhouse effect. Many industries in the United States depends upon have raised carbon dioxide levels and are continuing the same routine that’s causing the damage. It seems most Americans, including government officials are not willing to create significant change to reverse or restrain global warming trend. California’s emissions just this year are exceeding those of Brazil, a change needs to be created (Climate Change). President Trump even called global warming, a “hoax” and during his campaign he explained he’s not a big believer in man-made climate change. Which in fact, more than 95% chance human activities have warmed our planet (Nuccitelli). It is predicted if our own president doesn’t take
Today we face a major threat: global warming. People polluting the air constantly get so blinded by their own greed that they do not tend to realize what they have created. Our society runs on fossil fuels as a source of power, and as we continue to abuse the use of nonrenewable resources, we harm the Earth’s climate. Humans have made the biggest contribution to global warming, and the dangers will only get worse if nothing gets done. Our various toxic activities, such as working at power plants, drilling up natural gases and oil, and deforestation all emit greenhouse gases into the air, and because of these omissions large bodies of ice and oceans, the wildlife, and people 's health will continue to get harmed extremely unless governments worldwide gets together and place a ban on greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2045.
One of the most severe issues facing the world today is global warming. There are several scientists who argue that society’s production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are having an intense heating effect on the earth’s atmosphere and that this would eventually mean catastrophic effects for human life. Global warming is the gradual heating of the Earth’s surfaces, oceans, and atmosphere. Most of the leading scientific organization in the world acknowledges global warming as a global threat, 97% of climate scientists agree that the rate of global warming trends the planet is now experiencing unnatural occurrences, but it is primarily the result of human activity. The effects of global warming are visible as climate change continues to endanger the Earth’s atmosphere, along with the inhabitants, industries, and ecosystems. To decelerate or end global warning we should give tax breaks …, promote the manufacture eco-friendlier vehicles (such as eco-boost, hybrids and electric), and relying on natural resources.
Global warming over the past 50 years has been experiencing rising global temperatures from the human trend “greenhouse effect”. The role on human activity have produces greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide causing much of earths temperatures rising over the past 50 years. The impacts of Global warming are fueling frequent droughts, heaver rainfall, hotter heat waves, and powerful hurricanes. Global warming occurs when greenhouse gasses, carbon dioxide, and other hazardous collect in earth’s atmosphere absorbing sunlight and solar radiation trapping heat and causing temperatures to rise. In the United states, the burning of fossil fuels to make electricity is the largest source of pollution, producing carbon dioxide. Fossil fuel burning such as coal and oil power plants are the country’s biggest polluters. The country’s second largest source of carbon pollution is transportation sector. Transportation sectors such as automobiles, planes and trains generates about 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year. Due to the advancements of scientist, energy efficient technology, modernized power plants now burn less fossil fuels decreasing the emission of carbon dioxide. As a result, the effects of global warming are melting glaciers, effecting agriculture, disruption of habitats, and the spread of conditions favorable to pathogens.
Ever since mankind took a huge step forward with the age of industrialization, we have subsequently been destroying of own beloved planet. If no serious attempt to reduce our contribution to global warming, we will lose things that makes this planet so unique. Whether people think global warming is a serious threat or not, there is no denying the major physical effects to our planet throughout the past two centuries. Global warming not only shows how poorly our everyday live treat our planet, but brings along changes to both our climate, geography, and economical issues.
