The tone in 7.1 was friendly, with a sort of sloppiness. Although it is supposed to be friendly, it needs to also be professional. The tone in 7.2 was friendly and professional, it also gave a sense of highly educated. In writing, it is extremely important to have good word structure and edicate. The style in 7.1 did not give off a sense of confidence. Although you could sense positivity it was almost as if it was a conversation. You want to give off the feeling you know what you are doing and build a rapport. This was unprofessional, and should have provided detailed information such as 7.2. The 7.2 example was able to fully document what was happening. The information was written in a nice style that was able to grab the attention.

“Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott, is a hilarious must read for junior high school students and any other aspiring writers. Her essay inspires comfort and confidence in writing a first draft. It concretes that all writers experience the “shitty” first draft. Anne Lamott wrote this instructional information in 1995, but it is timeless information. She blows the idea of writing an immaculate first draft out of the water. Anne supports the idea that bad first drafts will almost always lead to better second, third and final drafts. She symbolizes the first draft to be like a child. Where you put all your thoughts and emotions out there in words on paper, you go all over the place, you say all kinds of ridiculous things, and all with the
A college education is valuable and its quality is of the highest importance to most Americans. In his essay, “On the Uses of a Liberal Education: As Lite Entertainment for Bored College Students,” Mark Edmundson utilizes ethos, pathos, and logos to effectively deliver his argument that the current educational system, especially in college, revolves around consumerism which in turn has negatively impacted students, teachers, and universities in general. However, although Edmundson presents an overall logically sound argument, there are few instances throughout the article that may hinder the reliability of his claims to the audience.

Indeed, a college education is a basic requirement for many white collar, and some blue collar, jobs. The 13th amendment of 1865 made people consider the use of slavery as a legal form of punishment for criminals. The amendment raises concerns over if African Americans were ever actually free in the United States. Although it states that the institution of slavery is illegal, it also states that slave labor is legal if in the form of punishment for incarcerated criminals. In 13th, Ava DuVernay employs the use of ethos, logos, and pathos through a variety of ways. Through the use of these techniques, Ava DuVernay connects them with vivid imagery to really drive her point that the 13th amendment did not necessarily end slavery, it just added a loophole that enslavers were able to use.
Reflecting on this course over this semester, there have been many lessons learned that will be valuable, as we enter the business world. Our first lesson was to learn to work together, as a team, to prepare a short memo, long memo, letter, and email for use in the business world. This is a lesson that will experience many times as we do our daily work. Punctuation and grammar are so important to present to the client and other organizations that we are professionals. It could mean the loss of a sale or acquiring new business. It’s like dressing for work; looking professional or unprofessional.
Chapter 19 discusses how to bond with an audience through ethos. One way to do this is through the identity strategy, which involves bonding with your audience so that your opinions sound like a group expression. Demonstrative rhetoric deals with how people show they belong to a specific group through words. When using demonstrative rhetoric, humans tend to gravitate towards specific customs. These distinguished customs used are known as code grooming. For example, President Bush would you statements such as "I believe" when addressing people of the religious community. This type of lingo is called a Bushism, which includes in a logical statement to highlight code words. These code words are often common places of the audience. Also, these
Anybody who is placed in a situation where there's no rule, no leader, no responsibility, fighting, and there’s something to be afraid of they will turn to the darkness within all of us. This is shown in Lord of the Flies, school boys are stranded on an abandoned island they kill a pig after that they hunger for slaughter, meanwhile they need protection( from the beast) so they hunt and leave gifts for the beast. In chapter nine Jack has his own tribe and the group is getting riled up meanwhile Simon is coming from the woods to tell that the beast is just a dead parachute man but the Jack's tribe kills him. When they first got on the island they would never have done this type of thing, but after time they realized they can do what they want
In ‘Here’s Why Legalizing Marijuana Makes Sense’, Alex Newhouse, a lawyer who resides in the area of Sunnyside, Washington addresses the controversial issue of the legalization of cannabis. The sole purpose of Newhouse’s article is to persuade readers and voters that marijuana should be legalized. Throughout his article, Newhouse focuses on the use of ethos and logos, while also slightly focusing on the use of pathos, to help persuade his audience. The incorporation of such rhetoric strategies allows Newhouse to change the opinions of individuals with views opposing the opinions he, himself, holds.
Logos: It is an appeal to the mind with the use of logic, rationality and critical reasoning to persuade the audience. The author uses logos in his article to make a logical connection with the topic. For example, the author uses the explanation of ideas in the article and employs lots of diagrams in each parts of the topic to show the visualization to support his evidence which is very informative because the visuals give lots of information about what the article is about and that to get attention of the audience.
As the semester comes to an end, there are many skills I have obtained and learning objectives I have achieved. There are four assignments from this semester that I feel show the skills I have obtained. The first skill I feel I have obtained is understanding professional communications, which also goes with learning objective one. This objective states, develop and design workplace documents that demonstrate understanding of professional communication, contexts, genres, and contemporary business topics. I feel I have accomplished understanding professional communication from completing the Memo 1 assignment. In this assignment I clearly state many ways that I expect to use professional writing in the nursing field. I gave many examples of ways I would use these in the field as well. In my paper I wrote “I expect to use many types of professional writing during my nursing career. These include: charting patients progress, referring patients to doctors, writing treatment plans and clearing patients for discharge.” These few sentences show I am aware of professional communication and how it is used in the field of nursing.
Clearly, many adults, who represent the result of education, cannot produce the clear and concise writing that effective workplace communication demands. This is a problem that comes not from a failure to retain acquired skills, but a failure obtain the fundamental principles of composition.
