Robin Williams is a Sociologist that identified certain values he felt all Americans have, the one I’m focusing on is Activity and Work. This value mainly prefers action over inaction where regular work is a goal. Activity and Work is based on merit and not favoritism, while all people have the opportunity to perform at their best. The signs of virtue for Activity and Work are discipline, dedication, and hard work. In the television show Leave it to Beaver, Wally and Beavers’ parents were giving them an opportunity to show their responsibility. When the Donaldson‘s left town they asked the Cleaver’s to watch over their prize possession, Puff Puff the cat. Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver, including the Donaldson’s, left it up to Wally and Beaver
Erastus Williams moved to Plainfield Vermont in 1813 with his family from New Hampshire and originally Quebec. He kept a journal of this life starting when he was 24 years old and continued it for 13 years. He chronicled his life as a farmer in Royalton Vermont. Made notes of his wife, Charlotte Stafford, and their five children. He wrote of his religious experiences in his town, about work on the farm and about the stresses of his tasks (Erastus P. Williams Diaries). In 1835 Williams feels blessed to have a home to call his own. On may 6th he writes “Isabel came to make a visit to me, the first time she was ever in my house – my house – and have I a house of my own? Yes, I am a slave to no one but myself now” (Albers). Towards the end of his
Values are defined as the importance or preciousness of something. A long time ago, around the early 16 century the puritans came to the America they live with the Native Americans and had a set of values they both believed in and lived by. One may not expect to find many similarities between both of these groups, but there are many. The Native Americans were not very different than the Puritans. Native Americans valued many things like religion, family, and the concept of things being balanced. Specifically, they strongly appreciated their family. Puritans similar to the Native Americans, the Puritans were more civilized and valued family, life, religion.
The values are the principles or standards which could include rules of conduct, respect, honesty, kindness, sharing and appreciation.
An example of a value in the USA would baseball. In our culture, baseball is a symbol of family time and fun. In fact, it is sometimes known as “Americas favorite pastime.”
Carter also speaks of an “American Core” that has six values necessary for good character: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, and citizenship. He believes that honesty is honored too highly which allows one to escape from responsibilities. Integrity does not permit easy escape.
Individualism and equality are two of America’s core values. These core values are the standards by which every American uses to distinguish what behavior are acceptable and what is not in the society in which we live in. It is these two values that our responsible for molding our personalities as well as our behaviors. I believe out of all the values the United States possess, individualism and equality are the two most important values to follow.
This gives the implication that values can differ from person to person, so it is therefore important to identify and understand one’s own values in order to work effectively in the field.
Page 210/chapter 6: Everyone has different values in the United States; however, most people has same values which is liberty, equality and democracy. American is called melting pot, so it happens. However, the political values that American support have not always put into practices.
Early American values shaped the United States and have set ground rules for how Americans should live. Faith, freedom, and how to live life to the fullest has been around since the seventeenth century and has had a major impact of on Americans today. Americans live by many values, but faith, freedom, and how a person should live life to the fullest are the most important. These values can be referenced back to religious puritan poetry, slave narratives leading to freedom, and romanticism. Americans way of life has greatly changed in respect to the core values of faith, freedom and living life to the fullest.
Everyday, I strive to exhibit these characteristics to the people around me. I believe the values of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism are important in everyday life because with out these morals, accomplishing a task and helping others would be impossible. Without dependability, dishonesty and corruption would occur, resulting in people not trusting each other. Without service people in need would not receive the help and support they deserve. A good leader is positive and helpful, leadership is important because it inspires other people and gives them a better outlook on life. Finally, patriotism is important because it teaches people love, loyalty, and respect; without love loyalty and respect, our country would crumble. I display dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism through setting a good example for my peers around me. Whether it is mentoring the freshmen through the Student Leadership Team at my high school, proof-reading my friends papers, creating new volunteer projects with the Red Cross Club, or sticking up for what is right, I aim to have a positive attitude in whatever I do. The way I see it, I can help my peers and family through setting a good example and displaying the four qualities of a DAR good

Another personal value of mine is promoting equality. I mentioned in the previous paragraph that certain groups of people have been oppressed in our society, thus I believe everyone should be treated equally. Women most certainly have, but I have also seen how certain ethnic groups in our society are continually oppressed against. I believe that all people should be treated the same. It does not matter what color skin you have, what religion group you belong to, or what sexual preference you have, we all bleed the same blood. Living in a low-income area in Saint Paul, I have seen first-hand how Asian Americans and African Americans are treated differently. My mother has always taught my sister and I to try and treat everyone with the same respect we would expect to receive; therefore, this personal value correlates well to the cultural competence and social diversity mentioned in the NASW Code of Ethics.
Growing up south of the Mason-Dixon Line in the United States has instilled in me many values including honesty, integrity and a genuine concern for my fellow man. Most
Be Attentive: The values that resonate with me include being honest and forthright, saying what you mean but avoid insulting people. Get the job done you were expected to do, that is a value I hold very high. When we look at the political dynamics in Washington, D.C., we note that in the most recent polls the U.S. Congress has achieved an 82 percent negative rating from the American public. Americans value hard work and accomplishments, and in truth neither of those values are apparent in the Congress. That is, only 12 percent of those polled believe that Congress is doing what voters sent them there to do. My values were formed by my father and mother, my older siblings, and also from my closest friends. Finish your assignments with class and competence, treat others the way you wish to be treated, give others the benefit of the doubt before passing judgment these values are from my family and my closest most trusted friends.
Values often use modified methods and styles; I have utilized these different ethics in my career, which has aided me in improving, the environment at work and in my life. Having these particular skills of approaching situations causes an optimistic environment, respect for others, honesty, and reliable outcomes. I have had the comfort of knowing whether, you’re working or at home or out in public, individuals appreciate this kind of merit. These values cause high points in your character with families, patients and your colleagues. Real richness comes from knowing you’re assisting patients with top-quality care, and these goals are obtainable. Identification of these values prepares an
