Introduction. There are more insects than people in this world. Every person in this world will be bitten, stung, or attacked by an insect, at some point or time. The different bugs on this planet all have different reactions for each person or animal. Insects will always survive and continue to plague living creatures with their bites and stings. First you have to be able to identify the different bites, stings, and punctures. To avoid the dangers of each bite, people must be able to notice the differences and effects of each insect attack, so they can receive medical help if needed by a General Practitioner. The irritating irritants. The venom from each insect assault, can lead to irritation, swelling, infection, or a red mark. However in most cases it can or cannot be harmless, but also remain painful and …show more content…
The Symptoms of West Nile virus: West Nile virus, which is transmitted by infected mosquitoes, can produce flu-like symptoms including fever, headache, body aches, and skin rash (MedicineNet.com, 2015). While most infected individuals have mild disease and recover spontaneously, infection can be serious or even fatal. There is no specific treatment for West Nile virus (MEdicineNet.com, 2015). The Symptoms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever: Initial symptoms may include fever, nausea, vomiting, severe headache, muscle pain, and lack of appetite. The characteristic red, spotted rash of Rocky Mountain spotted fever is usually not seen until the sixth day or later after symptoms begin. As many as 10% to 15 % of patients may never develop a rash (Traveldoctor.com, 2015). Rocky Mountain spotted fever is treated with antibiotics. Signs of infection: It is normal for a bite or sting to result in redness of the affected area and minor swelling, but if a bite or sting becomes infected, a fever may develop or the redness or soreness may worsen. In cases of infection, an antibiotic is the typical treatment (Traveldoctor.com,

West Nile Virus has emerged in recent years throughout the temporate zones of Europe and North America. Causing a variety of conditions in its hosts, the most serious manifestation of WN virus infection is fatal encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in humans and horses, and many birds.
Individuals with mild symptoms of West Nile Virus make up about twenty percent of the populations of infected humans. This form of the disease is known as West Nile Fever. The symptoms of West Nile Fever include: fever, headache, tiredness, body aches, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph glands, and a skin rash appearing on the back, chest or stomach. A headache and high fever are the most common indicators for a West Nile Virus infection. These mild symptoms can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. (California Government, 2005).
The incidence is highest in late summer and early autumn, until the first hard frost does away with the mosquito population for that year. Birds and other animals (such as horses) are the usual reservoir for the infection, and they are involved in its dissemination. Initial viral symptoms may give way to high fever and neck stiffness (meningeal signs). However, as with most forms of encephalitis, it is the confusion and depressed levels of consciousness (stupor) that mark the infection as being of the brain (encephalitis) and not just the meninges. West Nile Virus is an acute central nervous disease (McCance & Huether, 2014).
Once anyone gets a bite from a mosquito the side effects and symptoms won´t start showing up until 3-15 days after the initial bite, that is only if the mosquito was infected. Some cases are a lot worse than others (Centers). The mild or less severe case would be a headache and a fever. The more severe case would be headache, fever, body ache, swollen lymph glands, and in the worst possible scenario, death. No one can help weather you get a really bad case of
The Iowa Department of Public Health has confirmed a rare case of disease caused by the Jamestown Canyon virus. In addition, there are two cases has been reported to the Iowa’s Health Department about West Nile Virus, which is also an illness spread by mosquitoes, along with Jamestown Canyon virus. According to the author, people who are infected by these two viruses will experience: “fever, headache, and flulike illness.” Luckily, however, “the patients who had Jamestown Canyon virus and West Nile virus are slowly recovering.”
There are three major symptoms associated with RMSF which usually appear after an incubation period of five to ten days: fever, headache, and a rash. The rash is a diffuse macular (featuring elevated discoloration) rash, is most prominent on wrists and ankles, which will usually erupt three or four days after the onset of fever. All three of the primary symptoms are not always present in all cases of RMSF, making it much harder to correctly diagnose the disease. Other symptoms are general symptoms common with other types of infections such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Despite the name the disease is endemic in the Carolinas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, and is less common in the Rocky Mountain area. About 95% of reported cases occur between April and September. (Lyon and Kelsey).
Its venom destroys the walls of blood vessels near the site of the bite, sometimes causing a large skin ulcer.
In recent news, there have been a large number of cases associated to Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) which have impacted a number of American Indian communities in Arizona. (CDC/IHS, Newsweek).
Rocky Mountain spotted fever is an illness that is spread to people by infected ticks. The illness causes flulike symptoms and a reddish-purple rash. This illness can quickly become very serious. Treatment needs to be started right away. When the illness is not treated right away, it can sometimes lead to long-term health problems or even death.
Yellow fever was carried by mosquitos that had bitten people containing yellow fever. The symptoms of yellow fever consisted of Mild cases cause fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Serious cases may cause fatal heart, liver, and kidney conditions (Mayo clinic).
Rickettsia rickettsii Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) can be challenging to diagnose. Each patient can have different symptoms which can resemble other common diseases. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is characterized by a sudden onset of moderate to high fever (which can last for two or three weeks), severe headache, fatigue, deep muscle pain, chills and rash. (Idph, 2016). The rash can appear on the legs or arms, soles of the feet, palms of hands and spread rapidly to the rest of the body. Although most patients get a rash there are times in which a rash does not appear at all. There is no specific diagnostic test for this disease that is why it is so hard to diagnose. One test for RMSF includes a biopsy of the skin rash. Routine blood tests may be performed,

Stinging insects are prevalent in the warm weather months in Northern Alabama. Like most pests, stinging insects come with an ever increasing concern. Wasps, hornets and yellow jackets not only sting, but they can sting repeatedly, because unlike honey bees, their stingers are not barbed and do not pull out of their bodies when they attack. Yellow Jackets are particularly aggressive and are know to sting and bite without provocation.
People who get bitten by bugs like chiggers often have a similar reaction. A common reaction is having skin that is itchy with blistering. There may also be a rash or hives that are present. Home remedies for chigger bites can help to alleviate most symptoms.
