Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a patient. This is an occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist is part of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I was twelve years old when I decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I will be positively impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe pain, but also because I couldn’t go out and play since the illness didn’t seem to be dissipating even after a few days. It is common practice in Nigeria for people to self-medicate with drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn’t begin until payment is made. Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the pharmacist, I started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor’s job is incomplete without a pharmacist. There have also been other instances where I have marveled at the wonder that is medicine. For example, when my mom got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it wasn’t an issue so long as she
Pharmacists are consistently ranked as some of the most highly trusted professionals because of the important care and health-related services they provide. My strongest impetus for the study of this major is pegged on the personal urge to improve the lives and health of those around me. I would only be able to serve the health of others when I am fully acquainted with the knowledge of pharmacy, which to me is one of the noblest professions. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of others. My experiences, especially as I visit hospitals form a significant part in influencing my choice to study pharmacy. At one point, I felt very bad when a pharmacist in a hospital I had visited was very indolent in serving a patient. All human beings would feel adored and valued when they are given appropriate attention in regard to their health. The health profession has a mission geared towards safeguarding people's health and that mission is perfectly in sync with my desires. I want to be exceptional, to do my best in caring for people, and attend to their interest to the best of my knowledge. I admire nourishing hope to desolate patients and always give them a reason to
Patient - centered care is something I think should’ve been a part of the pharmacy field since pharmacy has started though, it was to a different extent. Patient - centered care for me is to mold/modify a treatment plan according to the patient’s needs and to consider them in the treatment plan when making one up. Most doctors are likely to just tell the patient what their condition is and what they should take and just tell them what they need to know instead of asking them questions like what are some complications they have been facing while they are following the treatment plan and addressing them. I think it’s important to have patient-centered care because then the patient is more likely to trust their doctor and are willing to follow their plan even if it is uncomfortable to them.
In the delivery of healthcare every member of the healthcare team plays important role in ensuring that the most appropriate care is provided to the patient to the best of their expert capabilities. The role of a pharmacist is critical in delivering quality healthcare. The article “What Pharmacist Do?” by Bureau of Labor Statistics (2012) provides detailed statement of the important roles pharmacists play and the services they provide in healthcare delivery.
I have spent my time as a student pharmacist learning about opportunities within clinical pharmacy and making certain that I was equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. In my pursuit, I became an active member of pharmaceutical organizations, held multiple leadership positions, attended clinical conferences, established research projects, participated in community service events, and other initiatives. I excelled academically, which was manifested in not just a high academic standard but also in tutoring fellow classmates and arranging sessions with other pharmacy students to help them improve time management and study skills. I shadowed pharmacists and residents before my advanced pharmacy practice experiences commenced to discover which areas of clinical pharmacy I found intriguing. I have obtained valuable pharmacy practice experiences in five specialties thus far including inpatient internal medicine, long term acute care, geriatrics and telehealth, and primary care. Through these rotations, I built upon the knowledge I acquired from my didactic courses but also developed patient-centered approaches and strengthened my clinical skills. I enjoyed many aspects of my rotations, including contributing pharmacotherapy recommendations, providing patient education, attending rounds and interdisciplinary team meetings – all of which have solidified my desire
As the first generation in my family to go to college I learned the importance of education. I graduated from Benedictine University with a Bachelors in Science and an Environment Certificate. I became intregted by pharmacy when I started to spent countless hours at a hospital watching my grandfather go in and out of surgeries and treatments for cancer. Seeing the different medication being handed to him inspired me to understand biological and chemical processes that happened. A Pharmacists, role is to aim to help patients treat illness by introducing new developed treatment of medicines with a range of patients. I began to take special interest in memorizing all my grandfather’s medications and how practical and clinical aspect pharmacy worked.
Technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense medication to patients. They receive the prescription, enter it into
One of the most important responsibilities of a pharmacist—whether in a hospital or community setting—is to help people. I was able to observe this critical factor portrayed by my clinical instructors at both St. Francis and at Walgreens. All the pharmacists I worked with during those two weeks displayed a genuine desire to improve their patients’ quality of life by ensuring no drug-drug interactions were present and asking questions about medication histories. I felt humbled and gratified being able to contribute in a minor way when providing
"A pharmacist must advocate for themselves so that they can promote their abilities and the services that they can provide for patients, and this will in turn provide the pharmacy with further opportunities to showcase their value to the health care team as well as the government." (Despins, 2015, p,12).
I will be evaluation my current job at the pharmacy. It is a functioning retain pharmacy that’s main purpose is to distribute drugs and assist in the wellbeing of our community.
I abruptly sat up in my bed, coughing and gasping for air. All around me was darkness and silence. I remember being terrified as I tried to scream out to my parents. Luckily, my parents had awoken to my coughing and were able to rush me to the ER. Reliving this experience has been my greatest fear. For years my asthma and allergies were not under control. I was on multiple medications, and saw little to no relief. Little did my parents know that it was not the medication, but the way we were using the medication. This was an important lesson in the need to understand how to properly use medication. This is something that can be achieved through a pharmacist, which is why profession is an important part of society. The role of a pharmacist consists
A pharmacy technician’s job market in the market is huge. Pharmacy technicians represent the third largest health professional group in the U.S... According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the total number of pharmacists in the U.S. is expected to increase by 25% between 2010 and 2020 and by 35% in 2030.Substance abuse is a major problem today in our society. Prescription drug abuse (use of opioids) is at its all-time high. According to state and federal government agencies, technology has a role in addressing this problem.
I believe my curiosity and interest in health helped lead me to medicine. My parents and close family members still laugh about how my most used word is why. I like to know where things come from, how they are made, and why they function the way they do. One of the questions that lingered in my mind during my high school years was why none of the medicines or treatments I took, eased the pain of my daily migraines. With the encouragement of my dad, who works at a pharmaceutical company, I decided I was going to be a pharmacist. I was going to study drugs and the active ingredients and how they affected the body. I loved science and I even went to pharmacy camp. But, as I shadowed and learned more about pharmacy, I realized I didn’t want to be a pharmacist. Drugs seemed interesting, but I was more stimulated by human body processes. As I sat in anatomy and physiology courses I remember thinking that the human body and its ability to compensate and respond to its environment was amazing. I also wanted the capacity to impact and change lives. While pharmacist can have some patient interaction, physicians have access to the direct and influential role in patient care that I
I gained an abundance amount of insight from many different pharmacists and how their roles play in helping patients in different areas. I wanted to learn everything possible there is, so that I too can make a big impact on someone’s life. They are like the quarterback of health care because, they have the full picture of medication history from all providers and know their background history. The feeling is empowering being able to shift the public view of pharmacists from being a dispensing role into a more clinical role. It feels good to be that ally, that trusted provider for the patients and see different stages of life. From being a new parent to retrieving medicine for child going away for college. It is important to me that I have a passion for whatever path my life takes. Since I have control over that way, I am pursuing a vocation that will furnish my existence with both importance and fulfillment. My capability to exceed expectations has dependably been acknowledged in my life scholastically. I intend to keep on challenging myself in the future of a thorough Doctor of Drug program at a prestige university, and later on with the requesting pharmaceutical
Today in the 21st century the roles of pharmacist have expanded tremendously. Before pharmacist had the role of solely dispensing drugs. Pharmacists were limited to only being regulatory or clinical pharmacist. Back then they were called medical purveyors who were much like today’s regulatory pharmacist and hospital pharmacist who are similar to hospital pharmacist. Now pharmacists carry many roles in healthcare. Pharmacist can play roles in public health, community, health systems, state, and federal government.
