The seemingly unstoppable Roman empire was certain to fall in a matter of time. Even though Rome was majorly affected by external attacks, I feel like the fall was because of the internal decline. The economy and social issues were the key factors that led to the descent of the large empire. A vast amount of their problems came from within the city. Every decision that Rome made had an extensive effect on the city itself and the rest of the world. Many foolish decisions made by terrible emperors weakened the city and eventually cause the many aspects of Roman life to crumble.

The Roman Empire fell because of military problems, natural Disasters, and most importantly legal injustice. One major reason for the fall of the Roman Empire was military problems. In document B, it says that *Roman soldiers had problems with armor. Their breastplates and helmets were to heavy so they decided not to wear them.

In 27 BCE, Octavian appointed himself as the first Roman Emperor. After being a republic for approximately 700 years, Rome was now an empire. The Roman Empire grew to be one of the greatest empires in history, conquering the majority of Europe, the Asia Minor, and much of North Africa. Rome went through a time of peace called Pax Roma. During Pax Roma many contributions were made such as arts and architecture. The Roman Empire declined because of its weakened military. The military began to weaken due to laziness, the land was easy to invade, and there we many different leaders throughout the empire.

There were several reasons for the fall of rome but internal problems such as military deficiency, political turmoil, and a weakened economy were the predominant forces leading up to the fall. Civil wars were a common occurrence in western Europe and often challenged the imperial throne. “It is worth once again emphasizing that from 217 down to the collapse of Western Empire there were only a handful of periods as long as ten years when a civil war did not break out” (Goldsworthy). Emperors constantly faced threats for the throne and often abandoned war against foreign enemy to deal with a Roman rival or Usurper.

Rome, the ever growing metropolis, one of the most strongest military forces we know today, a haven for riches and trade, and one of the most successful empires to history today. Rome was a growing empire, with its professional army quickly conquering several kingdoms left, right, up, and down, from the two Punic wars with Carthage, a war with Gaul, the conquering of Egypt, and Iberia, but, these expanding territories had its advantages and disadvantages. Rome had to quickly invent something able to move its soldiers to all of its territories that would give them enough time to get around to manage conquered people. The seas connecting Rome’s empire also played a role into how it’s geographical location would play into their success and prosperity.

One of the reasons that the Roman empire fell because the population is decreasing. The Roman empire fell by the population decreasing because according to document number 1 states that plague is one of the reasons that there was a rapid decreasing rate. Another reason is their interest of producing kids wasn’t very good because people were living their luxurious lifestyle so people did not want to have kids. The final reason why the population decreased involved the Roman empire to fall was because the Roman empire kept having constant wars and warfare's that a ton of people that were in the military died which means less people, population decreasing rapidly.

The Romans had huge lands that were very difficult for one person to control which made it extremely easy for invaders to take advantage and invade their lands. The three invaders that came from Asia were the Huns, Vandals, and Ostrogoths (Doc C). The invasions were mostly unexpected by the Roman people and thought they could easily take them off, not until suddenly three groups arrived at different locations that slowly weakened down the locals and armies at Rome. This attack was what really made Rome to fall apart. If it wasn’t for the foreign invasions, Rome would have been an empire that would have lasted for another few thousand

Whether you prefer to say Rome fell due to the invasions or simply morphed into the oppressive and the corrupt government, economic policies of the emperors had a heavy impact on the lives of the citizens of Rome. The Roman Empire acquired money by taxation or by finding new sources of wealth, like land. However, it had reached its furthest limits, so land acquisition was no longer an option. As Rome lost territory, it also lost its revenue base.In doc# 4: we can see how the economy and citizens were taken advantage of and how the economy was not stable enough, led to the fall of Rome. The empire's main focus was on expanding and funding towards the military and politics. They did not think of the flaws that came with expanding and soon realized that to expand they had to gain military strength, and that costs a lot of money. Immediately the government created high taxes taking advantage of the citizens that leaned on the government welfare system, forcing them to basically pay for advances in the military. This affected small business and companies to crash because they could not afford these taxes, leaving the economy weakened. Therefore the economy could no longer help provide for the military expansion and lead to military weakening. And when the military and the economy was down due to this “internal decay” Rome was easy to conquer and lost all power and eventually fell. Doc# 3 also shows that due to the expansion and Rome wanting to be a world power, it caused a distraction and the economy was used to fund the military success and power, with high taxes. The more it expanded the more the taxes cost and the weaker the economy was. The Roman Empire was a vast territory that expanded to three different continents.They were a place of honor, tradition, and respect. Rome has had several different periods, some of peace, and some of violence or unrest, but those were solved quickly and effectively. However, such a magnificent empire could not hold up under the strains that were slowly causing it to collapse. Rome began to face many problems that together allowed the fall of the Roman Empire. The three main problems that caused Rome to fall were invasions by barbarians, an unstable government, and pure laziness and negligence.

As we know the wars had many affects, but plagues in fact played a small role. The plagues didn’t really wipe out Rome, but it did reduce trade because other countries didn’t want the spread of the disease. The disease also slowed down the production of goods. The Roman Empire was one of the most powerful empires in the history of mankind. At the height of the empire in 110 AD, the emperors thought that expanding the empire was a good idea, but now we know, bigger isn’t always better. It all started in 200 BCE when the Roman Empire began to weaken because a lack of inefficiency and citizens were fighting for the throne. Up until the 5th century, it was sacked by outside invaders. At this point, it was already weakened by many other problems, and the old heart of Italy and the West we destroyed.

Rome had a very successful empire, but unfortunately every good thing has to come to an end and I will explaining how the great Roman Empire came to an end. Of course, one thing didn’t cause the Fall of Rome there were many important issues that caused the end of Roman Domination of Europe. One of the most important issues were bad emperors. The most notorious Roman emperors were Caligula and Nero. Caligula was a very crazy man and wasn’t okay in the head, that would be a perfect explanation of why he appointed his favorite horse as consul instead of appointing a human being as consul. Nero was just downright evil he persecuted Christians and was blamed for setting a big fire that destroyed much Rome.

When you think of Rome, you think of a super power that rose from a small civilization into an Empire that stretched from Italy down to North Africa. Over the time period of 500 years, the leaders of Rome conquered city by city to reach their greatness. Though it took 500 years for Rome to accomplish this task, it took only 100 years for it to fall. During those 100 years, Rome would be plagued with economic turmoil, inner betrayal, social issues, and a diminishing military.

The Roman Empire was a time when the government was ruled by emperors and there were boarders around that distinguished which land belong to the Romans and which did not. It encompassed the coastland and people of three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe. Many like to remember it was “the last and greatest of the Hellenistic empires, with all of the cultural variety that the term connotes” (Andrea & Overfield, 2014, p. 300). Because of the characterization of “The Fall of the Roman Empire” many have had a misconception of it. It did not collapse, what happened was that it was a work in process that seemed to have caught up. There are many causes to the fall of the Roman Empire. The lands that were ruled in by the Roman Empire began to embrace new cultures and over a period there was new civilizations that were formed: Byzantium, Western (or Latin) Europe, and Islam. Because of these knew civilizations, there was a lot of change that was going to come to Europe.
