Greek and Rome were very different. One of there significant differences, was how they were established. Mountainous terrain limited agriculture for the Greeks, and overpopulation was also a problem. This led Greece to spread out into several city-states, a decentralized structure. While the city states shared common language, culture, trade, identity, and festivals/holidays, each city state ruled itself, which often caused them to butt heads quite frequently. Rome was different, it was one civilization, not split up at all. During the beginning times of Rome, it was established with a republican type government. Something in common with Rome and certain parts of Greece was how they both had a strong military. Sparta, one of the largest

Rome has a lot of similarities in comparison to the United States of today. As a matter of fact, it seems as though we had taken a lot of things that made Rome, Rome, to use in what has become the superpower of the world that is known as America. Many of these similarities include politics. America probably figured that if it worked for Rome, then it should work for us (except the fact that we started off with Christianity rather than try to switch our religion halfway through our run and fall because of it). We also had similar cultures in the terms that we had similar sports, we both once had slaves, had wealthy and unwealthy individuals, etc.

The fertile soil from the hillsides of the mountainous lands, surrounded by water, provided the perfect habitat for olive, fig, and grape trees to grow naturally. In the Island of Siphnos and the Mountains of Thrace, gold and silver were found. Additionally, silver could be found in Laurionin Attica. The mainland and Aegean Islands was the home to the abundance of iron ore. Lavish Greek forest located in the Highlands were regrettably depleted of wood resources quite rapidly. Devastated first by home and wagon production followed by goat and charcoal production. Wood, the most significant resource, soon had to be imported to keep up with the demand for the of building of ships (Roman).
Aside from these physical differences, there is a difference in the goals between the Greeks and the Romans. In the first case what concerns the Greek city-states is limited to self-preservation if not individual fame and success. The Romans, on the other hand, were concerned with the success of the country as a whole; they knew that if the whole was successful, then the individual parts would also benefit.

These two city states shared some common characteristics whilst in some instances they were very different from each other. Sparta and Athens had differences and similarities in the way they governed their city states, in how they established their military forces, how they treated women, their marriage customs and social gatherings
