The tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet’s love has been told since 1597, either from a play, book, or movie. The latest release of the famous love story was in 1996, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. Some argue that the original play written by William Shakespeare is more authentic and real, however others argue that the movie gives a better understanding to the original meaning of the play.The play consists of five acts including the characters Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, Benvolio, Friar Laurence, The Capulets and The Montagues. The story is well-known for the love between the teenagers of two feuding families, The Montagues and The Capulet. The tragic love story ends in death for both Romeo and Juliet. The play was well known for the artillery. Everytime a character got into a dispute, he would pull out his sword and begin fighting. The movie was different because the characters did not take out their swords, but instead they took out their guns. Thier guns were engraved with either Montague or Capulet to communicate what side of the feuding families they were on. The tragic end to the love story is the most well-known part of the story, but the movie takes a new twist on the original ending. In Shakespeare’s play, the end was the death of both Romeo and Juliet. Romeo got word of the death of his love and went to the grave at which Juliet lies. When Romeo is saying his goodbyes, Paris appears and the two duel till the death of Paris. Romeo then takes the poison and Juliet awakes. Juliet sees both her true love and forced love dead and gives a final kiss to Romeo and then stabs herself with the dagger to end her life. In the movie, Paris never appears at the gravesite of Juliet, Juliet awakens before the death of her love, and instead of a dagger, Juliet shoots herself in the head with Romeo’s gun. The changes in the movie helped the audience comprehend what happened in the book
