It looks like EA Sports' famed 'Madden Curse' may have made its way to mixed martial arts. Last Friday, the video game publisher revealed that MMA superstar Ronda Rousey would be the cover star for their upcoming title UFC 2.
A day later, the then undefeated fighter would find herself on the receiving end of her first career defeat. Rousey was soundly beaten by challenger Holly Holm during their main event showdown for the women's bantamweight title at UFC 193. Holm, a former boxing world champion, displayed the full range of her striking ability - keeping Rousey at bay with her deadly repertoire of precise punches before knocking her out in the second round with a devastating left kick to the head.
In the wake of Rousey's shock defeat, many
Holly Holm came into UFC 193 as the underdog, but the preacher's daughter shocked the world as she KO'd Ronda Rousey, who previously had a perfect UFC record.

Time limits, protective gloves, banned techniques lists, and many more were added in order for society to accept it and this allowed the UFC to advertise more as a sport instead of a blood-sport. The only problem after the UFC and MMA became legal in many states was attracting attention. In the early days the sport was not profitable due to the ban in almost all U.S states so the original owners sold the company. Dana White, Frank, and Lorenzo Fertitta “…spent $2 million to buy the Ultimate Fighting Championship…” (Anderson). White and the Fertitta brothers were millions in the hole trying to make the company profitable and were ready to sell but, than they came up with the idea of the Ultimate Fighter. The Ultimate Fighter was a reality show where a group of athletes were all put in one house where they would only focus on fighting. This show allowed people to view how the fighters trained and learn the various personalities each athlete had. The finale of this show is what resurrected the sport. The contest between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar was a “three 5-min. rounds of compelling intensity” ( Chua-Eoan et al.). In this fight both contestants put everything on the line which resulted in a brawl than an actual technical fight. This however attracted viewers for as the fight went on, viewers started tuning in. This Fight is regarded as the most important fight in UFC history (Mannion). This led to
“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” -Vince Lombardi. Rachel Eaves is a girl who got knocked down many times, but never gave up. She’s fourteen years old, and she lives in Grovetown, Georgia. She was ten years old when she started her athletic journey playing soccer, swimming, and doing gymnastics. She then moved to football, and it’s changing people’s mindset on the sport. America is taught that football is generally a men’s sport, but Rachel Eaves changed that perspective by taking on football.
In the film the main character Micky Ward is a very promising boxer. Being a boxer is a family thing, his mother, Alice Ward, is his manager and his stepbrother brother, Dicky Eklund, is his trainer. Dicky is unreliable and Alice is very resilient. The two were very controlling over Micky and feel they have some sense of supremacy of him. However, even though Micky is working hard to try and make the best of his situation, he keeps getting blows that knock him down. They come in from the left, the right and all other directions, the hits that he receives seem to be the consequences of having Dicky and Alice as part of team. Despite this and his latest fight being unsuccessful, Micky still gets back in the ring.
She loses this fight because she
Based on my research, there are considerable lifelong health related consequences associated with participating in grueling sport activities such as professional football. What responsibilities should the National Football League (NFL) have in regards to providing an adequate support system to players suffering from a concussion during a practice or regular season game and from lifelong challenges as a result of traumatic head injuries sustained during the regular season or practices? The resources I have referenced in this proposal essay, provide evidence to answer this question and lends support to my position that considering the violent nature of professional football, the NFL needs to take more efforts to protect players during the games and afterwards if a serious injury has been sustained that affects their quality of life and future earnings. Current policies are inadequate and continue to contribute to lawsuits and cost lives.

Mixed Martial Arts is the fastest growing sport in the world. Mixed Martial Arts (or MMA) is a combat sport that combines every and any fighting technique in a bout. To look closer at this sport as a discourse community, we will break down the sport into 5 different categories. We will take a look at the goals and values of MMA, the typical fighting styles or genres of MMA, the general rules of MMA, tasks and roles of each MMA community, and the targeted audience of MMA.
Throughout world history people have enjoyed watching two men compete in hand to hand combat. Professional boxing made its debut here in America around the turn of the 20th century. Unlike boxing, mixed martial arts is a relatively new sport. Both sports are very technical and require their fighters to be in superb condition. Many fighters train all their life to make it big, but few ever get there. Although both sports are immensely popular, one stands alone as the dominant sport. In this paper I 'll prove that the sport of MMA is more technical, more exciting, and much safer than boxing.
The genre of MMA was chosen because it is a relatively new sport, but despite that, it has been gaining grave amounts of publicity in the sporting world. Unlike other long-established, mainstream sports such as soccer and basketball, the sport of MMA only commenced approximately 20 years ago, back in 1993. The power of social media has revolutionised the way humans
Mayweather spoke on the differences between MMA fighter Ronda Rousey and Boxer Laila Ali. Saying that the media isn’t being heard about Ali’s success as an undefeated boxer but are constantly talking about Rousey’s during her undefeated streak. Saying that, “Laila Ali did the same thing but in a better fashion. Ronda Rousey, she’s a good looking women when she put it on. Laila Ali is a drop-dead gorgeous woman; i mean a naturally beautiful woman and can kick ass, but you never hear them (the media) saying when she had i think somewhere around 10,11,12 fights the she was the baddest women to ever fight on the planet”. Floyd also had a comment on himself trash talking compared to the trash talking of MMA fighter Conor McGregor. “They say he talk a lot of trash and people praise him of it, but when i did it, they say i’m cocky and
sport, the UFC is making progress of cleaning up the sport from what it used to be.”(Smith 1).
* After learning some of the history, some of the major rules, and the organizations associated with MMA I hope that you will be watching my favorite fighter George St. Pierre defend his title on December 11, 2010.
