The Roanoke valley early college (RVEC) offers a tremendous opportunity to not only get quality education in normal high school courses but also offers an associates’ degree before graduation. As amazing as this opportunity is, how well is it actually being utilized by the students who attend RVEC? The “RVEC experience” is of no use to students if they are not putting in the work and taking advantage of the opportunity they have been given. What can be done to make sure that they are making the most of the opportunity that they have been given? The same applies to the teachers, what can be done to make sure that they are efficiently teaching the students, to ensure their success. That’s were the principal of RVEC comes in at, this is where …show more content…
It is often said that you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. As true as that is you can still try to make the water look as delicious and rewarding to drink form as possible so the horse will actually want to drink it. Same thing with students, as principle I would make working hard, getting good grades, maintaining good behavior and staying on task look as rewarding as possible. This motivates the students to be and do better, ultimately leading to self-motivation which is what every person should have within themselves to be successful and determined. As principle I would come up with more original fun things like trips, activities and rewards to motivate the students to want to do more. Simple things like that mean a lot to students and make going to school more fun and rewarding. I would make ways to recognize the achievements of student who are doing well so as they feel recognized they want to keep up their good works. Things like PBIS bucks were a great idea but were never enforced and was simply empty motivation that we couldn’t do anything with, I would change that …show more content…
When I say time, I mean students getting to school on time, classes starting on time and transition time between classes. For some classes there is about a 10 minute gap between when class actually starts and when class is supposed to start according to the schedule. This leaves a lot of “free time” in between certain classes or inside of a classroom without nothing going on because the teacher has not started instructional time. As a student I love it, but as a principle I would feel as though the school is losing productivity with a teacher just sitting in another room or not even being there at all while the students loiter or just aimlessly wonder through the hallways or sit in front of the door. Another thing I find to be interesting is how some students leave during lunch to make sure they get to class on time while the teacher is still down the hill in the main building, I don’t take that class but what do the students do while they are up there and their teacher is down here? Do they go into the class room and just sit up there by themselves? Or do they do the same thing some of the students in the RVEC building do and just sit outside door. As a student I don’t know what goes on like that, but as a principle I would think that is another way lunch time transitions can be better managed so that the students and teachers are where they need to be when class needs to
It would give the a little space to breathe a minute, and sit with friends. It would take away some of their stress, to sit and talk with some of their friends. Instead of the alternative of sitting there worried over how much time you have, and trying to choke down your food to finish it. Sometimes not even getting to say a word to anyone. Kids already stress enough over their work, and out of school activities, or things happening a home. So why do they need anymore stress? Stress causes kids to do bad academically, because it wears them down, making it hard for them to do their best. Kids might even get a little time to do some of their work at lunch, if given even a little bit of extra time. If you have forgotten an assignment, and you don't have study hall or panther time you're out of luck. Unless you do it at lunch, but with how much time were given now, that would mean giving up eating.
The importance of students being able to leave the school campus for their lunch hour is a great tool for them to learn the importance of returning to campus on time shows and also teaches responsibility on the student's behalf.
All these voices come from the same people. Students wishing for longer passing time in the halls. Now Smithville Middle School joins the fight, but this school isn’t using a barrage of exclamation points. It’s time somebody got to the root of this argument. ‘How can short passing times affect middle school life?’, ‘Does it affect student behavior?’, and finally, ‘How many minutes are really needed?’
In a recent survey 81% of students reported they were late to class because the passing period was too short and they either had to use the restroom or there class is too far away. Students should be able to have longer passing periods for restroom usage, and to have a little nutritional snack before the next class. If students had more time, they’d have time to get prepared for the next class. Lastly there would be less detention slips given out. Since they are so short students are upset because they are tardy and have to go to detention.
Wandering kids. Bumper to bumper traffic. Drug dealing. Is this the picture drawn when local students have fifty minutes of freedom during lunch to do whatever they please? Students should not be allowed to leave their school campus during lunch. An open campus would lead to truancy, disturb local businesses and neighborhoods, and cause crime.
I would motivate my students by developing a plan of learning that set clear targets, within a suitable timeframe, providing constructive feedback in a positive manner. If a student was having difficulty with a particular driving manoeuvre I would provide additional advice and guidance either by providing a detailed written guide (in a different font), a video recording, a detailed diagram or by personally demonstrating the task. Once an individual task had been completed to a satisfactory level I would praise them on their personal achievement and they were capable of achieving obtaining their driving licence.
HELP! I'm dying!... because school lunches are cringing! Students should be allowed to leave class during lunch hours, and be trusted to leave and return back in time for their next class. If high schools gave students this right it would teach them how to manage their time wisely and it would help them become responsible. Students who leave campus during lunch are most likely end up going to a local business to get their lunch which is both good for the students and the local businesses. Students with special food allergies could leave campus during lunch and go to their homes and get food they could actually eat and not be worried that their food could have been cross contaminated to something they're allergic to. Students who leave campus during lunch would come back energized and ready for their next classes.
At Roanoke Valley Early College we expect the best for all students and teachers. And we want what’s best for all our students because we know that they are all capable of graduating with a high school diploma, associate’s degree in their choice and/or certificate (optional). We also want our students to be able to achieve all goals that they aspire to and be able to go to college, of their choice or have a career they would want to pursue right out of the early college that they would love to do. The teachers that instruct will do what is expected out of them to make sure that each student is receiving the information given, make sure that every student understands each lesson, and let students be a part of the learning process by participating
The number 1 problem at pilot grove school district is not having longer lunch periods. This is a big problem because the lunch shifts now are too short and kids can’t eat enough to not go hungry throughout the day. Also, we students don't get the time to talk to our friends in class so lunch is the only time to talk to each other and it's very difficult to talk if your stuffing food in your mouth at the same time and watching the clock and get ready to go to our next class. I also hear about other schools around the country are having 45 minute lunch shifts or longer. Therefore, since those schools get to have that long to eat a talk, we should to we could
On a warm sunny day at Palm Desert Middle School, I was having fun playing tag with my fellow students and friends during lunch, when suddenly we were called in to sit back in the cafeteria. Time had seemed to have just flown by. I had barely any time to finish my lunch. Because of all this, I feel that we should have a six to twelve minute longer lunch.
There are, and always will be, students that are late to class after off-campus lunches. Therefore, teachers may need to worry about students being late to class. However, this just shows that the late to class students do not care about school in the first place. If the students are late then they need to be restricted from the privilege
In the fast paced world in which we live one can see the trickle down effect of that pace seaping into our school systems. With the mandates No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) brought to the table in 2002 school districts are finding themselves using every spare minute of the day to prepare students for rigorous standardized tests used to not only determine success of the students but also the school and staff. Schools are trying to squeeze more information in an already busy day. When looking at schedules it is a given that children need to eat, forcing schools to not take lunch away, so the only logical solution is to
For Positive Reinforcement, I would give praise as a little bonus to teacher whose numbers are the best, in front of other faculties, which should encouragement other teachers to do the same. For students I will personally go and congratulate the student, the student with the best attendance for the month in school will also get a reserved parking spot, and a free pizza. Their picture will be posted in the corridors with the data of attendances. Ones a year, a student with the best attendance will get either an xbox, or a computer. For a group of students
3) Let students know that you care about them. Although many of us assume our students know this it 's not necessarily the case. Let the students know that you want them to succeed, whether it be to pass your latest test, or class, or graduate from college and get a good job. Let them know that you appreciate the work they do on classwork, or a test, or homework. Take the time
A second way to intrinsically motivate students is to “understand the children” (Specific Classroom Management Methods). Originality and creativity should be encouraged in all students. Make a point to give students opportunities to express themselves in different ways. Each child is unique and self-expression is a great way to learn about each and every student. When starting the year, “Knowing what background your students bring to class and starting the course at an appropriate level can increase a students success and…positive feelings they have about your
