Today I address you as my AP Comp class, but I hope that what I say here today inspires you to see the world with different eyes as we all go our separate ways. As teens, we always seem to take things that we believe to be true for granted. While we question things that don't seem right, most of the time we just let it go and move on with life. A question is a beautiful tool that we have at our disposal. A question can spark a light of curiosity.S1 Curiosity leads to discovery.S2 Discovery is what helps you and humanity to grow and evolve as better beings. Ask yourself, why does a light bulb work? Ask yourself, who invented socks? Ask yourself, why am I listening to this speech when I should be in bed?T1 There is no such thing as a stupid question- yes, I know that sounds teachery and …show more content…
We are young and the future is ours. Let us step up and make our generation the best yet. We can do this by questioning the world. A question, that you yourself want to know more about will lead you in the step of the right direction. Eventually, asking enough questions will force us to search for more answers, and those answers are what could be the change that saves our future. Just remember, there are no stupid questions *cringes* As a science fair competitor, asking questions is what leads me to designing projects and trying to out do the other try hards in Montgomery County. Before I go any further, this speech is not a “kill your social life and compete in science fair” speech. I am simply showing you the power of our thoughts and words. On a Saturday during freshman year, I was sitting at a restaurant with my friends, near the service station, and watched a dish of a devoured peanut butter sundae go by into the kitchen. Deathly allergic to peanuts, I now wondered what would happen if I got that same dish after it was cleanedS6. The question popped into my head, “are dishwashers actually safe for people with allergies?” Immediately when I got home I
This is a hard question to answer, and I believe that it takes society and individuals to fix what is crumbling in our society. However, someone has to be willing to start. It is scary to think of what our world will be like in fifteen years, especially if you are a parent who worries if they are providing their children with the moral standards, social growth, and economical opportunities that they could face in our society today. While it is hard to
There are countless way that the people of this world could increase their intelligence. However, it may not be easy at all to increase intelligence or even the majority of the population will not want to put in the time or effort. But wisdom does not come from age, instead the only way it is possible to gain wisdom is from actually going out and learning. If this world would put in the time and effort we could accomplish great things in the upcoming centuries or even in the next few years. “To give thinking time, to make thinking broad and adventures, to make thinking clear and careful, and to make thinking organized” (Sternberg 81). All in all, the fact that great accomplishments could be achieved in future should be enough influence to get the people of Earth inspired enough to go out and start learning.
In order to have a government that doesn’t fear innovation, the youth’s unlimited opinions would be an appreciable resource. For youth to understand the power and abilities they have, something needs to be done about the education system. As mentioned in the “Education” video, John Stossel said, “It’s the people my age, who are in charge, are holding you people back” in regards to youth not reaching their full potential. How are youth supposed to understand their worth is more than a grade when the same old education system is telling them different? How can youth, who are the future of the country, change the government when no one tells them that they are capable to create innovational breakthroughs? Government oversight is hurting the people that it is trying to help the most because they do not know what to do to help
Our hope for the future is slowly dying. Why? Because, because we can not come together, because we can not love one another, because we can not find a common goal, because we can not find hope.
With that being said change starts with all of us! We have to set examples for our youth! PS I am not a major in writing so please excuse any
literally up to this generation to save the world, to make the changes we need to
Young people have the ability to communicate instantly. This ensures that people are consistently aware of the issues plaguing our global community but that dialogue is not enough. In order to actual create sustainable change there must be organization and implementation. There needs to be a greater focus on policy change to create a more peaceful and inclusive world by
Though elders may scold the Millennials for being stuck in a plastic universe filled with social media and indirect communication, they fail to see what we, the youngest generation, may have to offer. In past times, the population had lacked an awareness that we are now able to grasp with our fingertips. Thanks to Millennials and some of the generations previous to us, all things are worthy of discussion, even if we choose to do so on a screen instead of through our voices. From music to television, movies to blog posts, society as we know it today is much more progressive than ever before.
A future depends on those that are coming behind us, but with harmful substances already making their way into the lives of youth, a future could be pretty bleak.
The world is constantly changing and it is the new generations that are causing these changes. Our modern day youth is determined to change the future and better their tomorrows.
The greatest challenge that my generation will face, especially as we are becoming of age to legally complete activities such as voting, is the spread of ignorance. A large majority of the issues that I concern myself with may be traced back to the ignorance of many people and may be greater issues in the future. The refusal to acknowledge the decreasing quantity of natural gases will lead to a sudden oil and gas shortage; overfishing of the oceans will lead to large populations of people losing their main food supply; and the denial of government corruption will lead to further government corruption which damages the citizens of the government. All of these are issues that are and will be drawn from ignorance. Many of these issues, such as
Did you know that Cleopatra was born in 69 BC and that she wasn't even Egyptian? At my old school this is what we crammed into our brains before each and every quiz or test; facts and dates. Our main focus and priority was Pokemon cards instead of flash cards. We had cliques separated by popularity, interests, and gender where sharing a laugh with someone outside of the group was considered "abandonment". This school is different though: this school has teachers who care about their student's progress, this school teaches understanding, this school contains students who include others in their conversations and activities. This school is ACS. Everyday, we are urged to work hard by our fellow educators. This encouragement helps us achieve higher
Our generation seems to be in trouble. People are more focused on matteralistic things than what truly matters, such as kindness, love and family. The media have detoriated into nothing more than advertisements of things we do not need, but many feel they do to feel complete. News has become nothing more than depressing stories, Tragadies need to be covered, in the news, but I feel that positive things do, as well. This generation watches television shows, which, in a false manner, teaches them what being an adult is. Instead of having responsibilities and working hard, everyone just wants as much money as possible, with as little effort that can be mustered.
So what do kids think about what they learn? Let’s find out. Clayton a middle school student says, “We need to know how to establish credit, make a bank account, apply to a job, apply for a loan, balance a check book, do my own taxes, and just be prepared for life.” Do you think he has a point? Irene a high school student says, “Elementary students and middle school or even high school students are still unsure of their dream job or career and what
This generation of kids is doomed! If we continue on the path we are on, we will have no future and we will never be able to make our country a better place. What path are we on? We are on a dangerously lazy path. We must energize this country!
