STEM drives the world. It sparks change (Science), drives innovation (Technology), provides jobs (Engineering), makes us think (Mathematics), and puts us where we are, as the most advanced species on Earth, and possibly even in the Milky Way. The STEM Academy at Landstown High is one of the few advanced academies preparing students for the 21st Century, to go forth and explore more science, create and shape new technologies, engineer new wonders, and think and ponder it all, advancing the human race. I would like to apply to the STEM Academy because I would like to be a part of this innovation, and I hope to gain new hands-on experience which only this academy offers bountifully.
The STEM Academy contains a rich and technological curriculum
More than 2,000 qualified young adults apply to participate in the annual Naval Academy Summer Seminar but only 850 of said applicants are selected to participate in each of the sessions. Knowing that the summer seminar deals with STEM and the Navy, I quickly applied myself so I can be one of those 850 selected young adults and participate in a science, technology, engineering, and math-loving atmosphere. I am interested in attending the Naval Academy Summer Stem program because I live and breathe science and engineering. I want to continue my path to higher education through the Naval Academy one day.
“How JROTC has prepared me to be a better citizen of the United states of America”. JROTC has prepared me to become a better citizen by teaching me how to use leadership skills and be able to cope with subordinates. It also has prepared me to be a better citizen by showing me what the 7 army values are and what they mean. Some of the army values are respect, honor, integrity, and personal courage. JROTC has showed me how to do things different from the way I thought things should be done and how to march and be able to keep a company and platoon together when marching. Since I know a lot about the JROTC I am able to help other people become better citizens like I was taught. I am also a better citizen because i have the discipline not to do certain things that I did before I took the JROTC class.

As a part of the HBCU Alumni Alliance’s Higher Education initiative program; Alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are concerned about the inadequate representation of minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related professions. Consequently, DCHBCUAA STEM professionals have designed and organized an instructional hands-on STEM workshop for students in grades 10-12, to enlighten them on the different facets of professions available in the sciences. As a part of our community partnership with Kaiser Permanente, we have a workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 800 am-5:00 pm, at 2101 Jefferson Street in Rockville, Maryland.

In the beginning, JROTC was established in 1916 when Congress passed the National Defense Act. The main purpose of JROTC was to motivate young men and women to be better citizens. This all started in Norwich Vermont. Not much has changed since then. Their mission before is still the same as their mission now.
The school environment was measured by its implementation of the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) approach. SEL is a framework that focuses on resiliency and teaching social and emotional competencies to children and youth (Hong, Espelage, Grogan-Kaylor, and Allen-Meares, 2011). Specifically, SEL uses social skill instruction to address behavior, discipline, safety, and academics to help students become self-aware, manage their emotions, build social skills, and make positive decisions. A meta-analytic study of more than 213 maltreatment intervention programs found that SEL-implementing schools could expect better student behavior and an 11-point increase in standardized test scores (Durlak, Weissberg, Dymnicki, Taylor, and Schellinger, 2011). The affluent school with abundant resources implemented SEL to promote resiliency. The less-affluent school with limited resourced did not implement SEL; therefore, its students did not have access to any resiliency

To be eligible for the RISE Awards program, I understand that one must both have a passion for and be experienced in STEM. A willingness to learn and pursue new endeavors. Although I can’t say with unwavering certainty that I meet all of the standards for this program (since that is up to you to decide), I believe that I do have the fervor, the innovation, and the drive to take on this opportunity.
In our ever evolving society we seem to be having a greater affinity to technical jobs and careers more integrated with our technology. It appears that we are heading into a world of Science, Technology , Engineering, and Mathematics or STEM. The STEM fields that are rapidly increasing relate to jobs that deal quite a bit with our newer technology and the creation and development of new and more efficient technologies. To compliment this increase in STEM careers, we need to focus our time, energy, and most of all capital on the lackluster STEM program in our school systems.
