Good morning/afternoon, I am Katelyn Morel and I am a Workplace Health and Safety consultant for the Department of Education Training and Employment and I have been asked to conduct a Safety and Environmental Audit on Dreamworld. In doing so, I have conducted a Workplace Health and Safety Risk Assessment and Environmental and Sustainable Work Practice audit within the theme park.
Dreamworld is Australia’s largest theme park, with over 40 rides and attractions, situated on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Dreamworld currently has its own Workplace Health and Safety Statement which includes protecting the health and safety of all staff and visitors, managing and reducing the risk of injuries, protecting the environment, ensuring quality products and services, and sustaining sufficient resources to achieve Dream World goals. Along side these main sections of their statement, there are many different departments in which staff work in at Dream World including operations (Rides/Attractions), Life Science (Animals), Business Services (Technology and Advertisement), Food and Beverages, Merchandise and Warehouse, Engineering and Technology, Finance and Administration, First Aid, Security, Guest Services and Sales and Marketing. Dreamworld also has their own Workplace Health and Safety committee called the World Safety Ambassadors. This committee goes by 3 simple key responsibilities. Quality, Environment and Safety. This committee therefore helps sustain Dreamworld’s services.
Employers, managers and supervisors should all ensure that workplace practices reflect the risk assessment and safety statement. Behavior, the way in which everyone works, must reflect the safe working practices laid down in these documents. Supervisory checks and audits should be carried out to determine how well the aims set down are being achieved. Corrective action should be taken when required. Additionally, if a workplace is provided for use by others. The safety statement must also set out the safe work practices that are relevant to them. Hence, it is
There are many other jobs that need to ensure Health and Safety is important and some of these are: landlords, contractors, emergency services, trade union representatives and consultants. They have to make sure Health and Safety is an important role whilst doing their job as they don’t just have to think about themselves and the people who work for them, they also have to consider the people who are putting their trust in them to help them.

In the salon it is important that all health and safety policies are up to date and are delivered to staff accurately and professionally to avoid misunderstandings and to create a safe working environment for everyone. This can be done by holding staff meetings and verbally telling employees of the changes, emailing all employees or use of notice boards in the salon which can notify clients too or in the staff room. All staff should have information and training on:

I ensure staff are kept safe within their day to day work by ensuring that they work to Health and Safety Law and Legislation and that this is kept up to date. I ensure risk assessments are in place and reviewed regularly for any changes or updates. I ensure staff are all treated equally and are given the same choices.

health and safety procedures and practises should be under continual scrutiny and areas for improvement should be monitored and dealt with. A good method of monitoring & improving are health, safety and security procedures are visually. Check visitors have signed in the visitor’s book, look for items blocking fire exits or hallways, wet signs are in place during cleaning, COSHH cupboards are kept locked, medication trolleys are secure, hoists are clean and stored in a correct storage place. Policies and procedures need to be reviewed regularly to ensure they are still relevant, circumstances in workplace can change and new risk assessments will need to be put in place or old ones reviewed. Policies and procedures may need evaluating and developing

OSHA is an essential law that comes up with a set regulations to protect American workers from being injured. The law comes with effective standards that cover the work place, power sources, machinery and equipment, materials processing, protective clothing, first aid, and administrative requirements. In case of an employer does not adopt those standards, it will be cited and fined. OSHA comes up with those standards to increase the effectiveness of these circumstances actions. Sea World Park was one of the businesses who get affected by OSHA decision who asks it to pay 75,000 fine for exposing its employees to a risky interaction with wild animals. This responsibility motivates the HR department and managers to implement stringent policies to prevent work-related injuries to avoid paying for higher workers’ compensation insurance. Moreover, it inspires the company to promote safety by organizing a safety committee to address hazards in the workplace to prevent injuries or deaths. The committee solicits employee suggestions and participation to increase compliance to company policies. It also develops various safety programs to promote employee wellness to improve their quality of life (Gomez-Mejia, et al, 2010).
Working in the Rides department is more challenging than working in all the other departments, because of the physicality of the job. I had to be prepared to work more and push a lot harder than most employees. In a single shift, we have to deal with various physical, emotional and mental situations when we work. When we operate, we need the strength and physical demanding ability so we could, pull, or stop carts with our hands. We also had to be emotionally capable to handle difficult people, but also providing them with excellent guest service and mentally we needed to be able to balance the two together for when we won’t injure ourselves. The importance of having excellent and strict training rules do apply how safety is a huge factor in
