With an ever-increasing body of knowledge in the field of nursing, more education is being required to enter the field of nursing. Many healthcare institutions are raising the educational requirements in order to become employed or maintain employment in their facilities. Healthcare organizations are transitioning to hiring registered nurses (RN) who have a higher level of education, such as, a graduate from a Baccalaureate Degree Nursing (BSN) program. The goal of these institutions is to have nurses with a broader array of skills that can meet the growing demands of our patient population. BSN prepared nurses are recognized for their well-rounded skills in critical thinking, management, case management and health promotion versus Associate Degree nurses (ADN)/Diploma nurses that focus on direct patient care.
These seven roles of the professional nurse will expand my responsibilities from the practical nurse. It will involve more evidence based planning, evaluation of interventions used and changing interventions that have not met client goals. It will also require more involvement in the politics of nursing as a profession, becoming a more active participant in change. Developing more critical thinking, collaboration, planning, intervention, and assertiveness skills to advocate for the patient and their rights as an individual.

My goal after then is to become a Chief Nursing Officer of a major hospital. Chief Nursing Officer is one of the highest nursing management positions one can hold. Nursing managers work to ensure that high quality care is being provided to the patients at their health care facility, accommodate nursing and education programs, and provide effective problem solving skills to apply to their work environment when required (“How”, 2015). Individuals who take on this role are expected to have at least all the certifications a registered nurse requires; Registered Nurse Licensure and CPR certification. A Master’s of Science in Nursing is preferred for the position, but there are facilities that will accept a registered nurse with their bachelor’s degree into a nursing manger position if they’ve had three to five years of experience in a team leader role previously (“How”, 2015). When looking for a candidate for this position it is pertinent that the individual has had an abundant amount of experience working on the floor, so that they will have the capabilities to apply their knowledge they’ve learned from previous practice to any problems that could potentially arise on the floor. Nursing managers ensure that hired employees are competent for their position, evaluate their employees’ performances, supervise nurses, certified nursing assistants, or licensed practical nurse, implement punitive actions when needed, and are knowledgeable of hospital wide policy changes (“How”, 2015). The manager’s position focuses on staffing, problem
Between you and I we have said it all, you brought up the element of putting more doctors into the system, however, I read one study that stated MDs would rather work in major cities and not small towns. So, I believe the shortage will be handled by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs).
In modern day healthcare, there are many interesting job professions. Some are intense and requires an extensive amount of work, while others are less demanding. The two health professions that I will be focusing on in this essay, are Long Term Care Nurses (LTC) and Nurse Practitioners (NP). I’ve interviewed two healthcare providers one of each title, and the information that I have been given, I must say is quite interesting.
As an RN you will convey and ensure patient care by surveying and diagnosing patient's condition, creating an arrangement of consideration and assessing understanding's reaction to give a second thought. You will likewise take an interest in patient training and release arranging and work together with, direction and aide assigned consideration colleagues in arranging patient care and accomplishing objectives.
I concur with your synopsis that the coordination of care across hospitals and care delivery networks-coordinating a multidisciplinary plan that moves clients across the continuum of care is the most essential function of the nurse case manager. Finally, case managers have the opportunity for greater responsibilities in care coordination from the acute, subacute arenas, home care to include long-term care as well (Dunham-Taylor & Pinczuk, 2015, p. 635)
