School Buses Should Have Seatbelts

Fifteen years ago in Washington D.C., Dawn Prescott was riding on a bus that crashed in Omaha, Nebraska. Prescott was a chaperone for the high school band’s trip to a competition. Her 14 year old son Benjamin was sitting a few rows ahead of her. Benjamin along with two other student and a parent died as a result of the crash. Since the crash, Prescott, a middle school teacher, has been urging Nebraska lawmakers to require seat belts on new school buses.

Therefore, it would be unethical for individual citizens to ignore the governmental requirement for people to use seat belts in their vehicles. Adhering to seat belt laws is important for individuals not only in improving drivers and travelers use of seatbelts through penalty avoidance and police enforcement but also indirectly by enhancing a culture of good ethical behaviors. There are many people who do not understand the importance of seat belts for safety. They do not wear their seat belts even though they know the mortality statistics. Most of them think that seat belts do not help when an accident occurs. We have all made the excuse that the seat belt is uncomfortable. Driving is a dangerous duty that should always be practiced with more caution and care. Some people think that not wearing a seatbelt is rebellious. Other people think that they will never get into accident. Some of the consequences of not wearing a seat belt is that you could die, you can get injured and many more. So far, the only way to avoid these consequences from happening is to wear a seatbelt.

1.Wearing seat belt saves many people.Seat belt use virtually eliminates the possibility of ejection from the vehicle.Wearing seat belt keeps you from being thrown from your vehicle..It keeps you from banging against parts of your car such as the door.It can also keep you not to hit to steering and the thing in front of you.Seat belts keep the driver and passengers from banging each other, a cause of real injury in some accidents.Airbags are some times useless if you are not wearing seat belt,you can be thrown from your car.If you has thrown from the car, you can be hit some parts of car.So people wearing seat belts can be illegal.

The short answer is that small school buses do in fact require seat belts; large school buses, with a few exceptions do not. I lost a relative in a car crash. Can you imagine how I felt when I found out? He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and was thrown off the road through the windshield. Car companies should start making cars that require everybody in the vehicle buckled up or else the car won’t start. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the chances of injury, also the law requires you to wear a seatbelt.

Reason 2: If they don’t have seat belts on the buses they are gonna still stand up stick there heads out the window and the bus driver is going to get distracted by the kids and could get in a wreck.

Having seat belts on buses does not mean that children will wear them and studies show that if a crash were to occur and some children were in seat belts and some were not things could go very bad. Mary M. Alward states in her article by Local School Directory.com that, “On impact, the children who are not wearing seat belts are slammed into the students who are strapped in. These children not only absorb their own body weight, but also that of the children who slam into them. This doubles the crash impact of the belted students and serious injury may occur” (Alward). Another campaign is the “click it or ticket”, although indirect relate with public health, the end result can be that in an accident the victim will end up in a hospital, when he or she did not wear a seatbelt.

For the people who use the excuse that "They are just going around the corner" should realize that 80% of traffic fatalities occur within a 25-mile radius of your home and at a speed of 40 miles an hour. Buckling up to drive around the block is probably the best time to do so. Everyone knows that car crashes can cause death; yet because people do not buckle up all the time thousands of people still die in traffic crashes yearly. Seatbelts can save your life in a crash and can reduce your risk of a serious injury. Seat belts keep drivers and passengers from being ejected through windows or doors. This is important because your chances of being killed are five times greater if you are thrown from the vehicle. Thousands of people who die in car crashes each year might still be alive today if they had only been wearing their seat belts.

In 2016, 3,773 people died in a motor vehicle traffic accident and of that 3,773, 43.71% were reported not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred. The “Click it or Ticket” slogan was made to encourage drivers to wear seatbelts, but it’s impossible to pull over every single person that isn’t wearing

An enormous division currently exists between the people who believe that automobile safety should be an option and those that feel it must be a requirement. The problem that is accuring at our school is that students are not allowed to use any type of electronics on the school bus. The parents find this policy unfair and think it should be lifted. This policy should not be lifted as the driver finds that the cell phones are distracting while driving.

Did you know that every hour, someone dies in a car crash for not wearing his or her seat belt? When you are driving or even riding in a vehicle, buckling your seat belt will decrease your chance of death or serious injury, if you are involved in a severe accident. Seat belts are there regarding to your safety and protection for the prevention of your life being in danger. In 2015, seat belt use in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 13,941 lives, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (Seat Belts np). Recognizing the importance, consequences, and how an individual can deal with the problem are the key aspects to this solution.

There are many factors that are included in a vehicle to keep everyone safe. One of these, is the seat belt. Safety comes first when someone gets in a vehicle. Seat belts save the lives of many people everyday. When seat belts were invented, they were put into every vehicle to keep people from flying out a window when involved in a wreck. There are statistics that show that wearing a seat belt decreases the possibility of being injured to the point of death.
