The members of Mabelle B. Avery's School Climate Task Force (SCTF) meet, and work, tirelessly on Fridays, in meetings filled with fun, work, and laughter. We put a lot into our projects, and you recently have helped us furnish, and fulfill, our most recent project- a School Store. At the end of March, the members of SCTF worked together in meetings and alone during private, personal time to write a grant that would allow us to expand our relatively modest store. Our mission in the store was, and is, to "improve the school climate of our school by encouraging healthy relationships between faculty and students, and by increasing the preparedness of our students for daily classes." With this money we have received, we can finally succeed in our
If the current system not the administration calculates that the annually will increase as a chance to reinforce the district where it needs the assistance. While increased funding not necessarily equate to improvements in student performance, it’s funding and where it is clearly needs to be addressed. Ambitious effort to lift student achievement and, fundamentally, to undermine the idea of public
Herndon High School has embraced the following mission statement, “All Hornets Are Capable of Success, No Exceptions!” Herndon became a Kids At Hope school. Herndon encourages students to believe in their individual potential and challenge themselves to define success. They understand the importance of finding hope in the face of adversity. Students when presented with challenges see the opportunity for change and growth. Last year, in the first implementation year of Kids At Hope, the HHS faculty and staff focused on creating a culture where WE BELIEVE in the success of all of our students, NO EXCEPTIONS!. The real strength of the Kids at Hope movement is the way adults interact with students and how students have come to interact with each
Starting sophomore year, I began to take on an active role at our school's SkillsUSA IT club. Staying after school became a regular occurrence. I began to work in our club's computer repair shop: Wolverine Computer. We repair computers for the local community for a fee of $50. In addition, we collect hazardous electronic waste for recycling at no charge. The proceeds enable students at our high school to test for and obtain industry certifications. These certifications include the IT Fundamentals, A+, and Network+ certifications from CompTIA. For many students at the school, these certifications are crucial opportunities. Many students at La Vergne High school are from a background of poverty, many are immigrants or first generation students,
“Our main goal is to create a space that brings together all kinds of students to help them raise awareness and celebrate differences in our inclusive school climate.”
Explanation: This additional allotment of supply money is for the Science Department at BCC. During a recent High School that Works Building Evaluation, it was noted that the Science Department was lacking in supplies and equipment which corresponded to a lack of lab opportunities in the classroom. This money along with additional equipment funding seek to remedy this issue..
“Tatum isd, where every student is special.” Our school, Tatum high, just received a large cash gift for having the highest test scores around. I believe we should use the money to update the most important, crucial, productive, and beneficial things to all students. They really need to modernize the restrooms and the transportation, those, to me and many others, are two of the biggest problems at our school.
I want my school to be a place where everyone feels confident and safe when they enter the building. I have high expectations for all students, and I encourage my staff to challenge students academically. We need to prepare students with 21st- century skills and utilize the different tools in technology. We are a team, and family at
Clare Foran author of “The Plan to Get Climate-Change Denial Into Schools” writes about activist that want the education system of Texas to teach their children that climate change is an opinion rather that a fact. Emily McBurney, member of the Truth in Texas Textbooks coalition, is rating textbooks that do not meet her standards of education. She and other members are hoping that they influence the state not to purchase the material. That will serve about five million Texas public schools for at least a decade. Most parent want the best for their children and that includes an education, but how can they deny climate change and call it an opinion if there is sufficient evidence to say otherwise? Children should be
Analyze and determine appropriate strategies that enhance a school’s climate and support student engagement in learning.
Top of the priority list for success at Hayes Elementary is school culture and climate. Creating an environment that is welcoming, supportive, safe, believes in its students, and has high expectations for its stakeholders is vital. Leadership who communicates a clear-shared vision and depends on its stakeholders to achieve it through collaboration and communication is what helps to create this type of culture and climate. Curriculum, instruction, and assessment must be aligned and guided by state standards. This includes making sure teachers and staff understand the importance of assessment in general and why and how assessment measures are required by the
Harvey has made possible for me would be enough to keep a person busy for a lifetime, but I am not her only student. She affectionately calls every student in the department her “kid” and I have personally watched her distribute forks, spoons, change for snack machines, markers, hugs, or any other supply in her office (which is a supply store in and of itself) to any student who may be in need. This compassion has earned her the nickname “mom” in the by students in the department, and anyone you ask would have a response much similar to my own. Despite her bottomless gratitude, she never expects repayment. Instead, she only asks that we “pay it forward” and bring the same level of love and compassion to our own future classrooms; her emphasis is on the “ripple effect” growth; I feel this is the mark of a true
How would you categorize the school climate at the school where you are doing your fieldwork?
Dr. Grant Bell has worked diligently to get to the point where he is today as a leader and role model of the community.. Starting as a middle school history teacher for many years, working his way to an assistant principal, and eventually becoming a school principal at a high needs school. During this journey, he has obtained his bachelor’s degree, teaching certificate, master’s degree, administrative license, and finally his doctorate in education. On top of his achievements, Dr. Bell is constantly reading books and attending seminars during the school year and over the summer to help our school stay on top of new, innovative ideas. One of the most effective practices that Dr. Bell has established in our school is loaning out his various
Well folks I will be completely honest, I do not really know anything about climate change and I am not going to write a post pretending I do. I live in Oklahoma and if anyone knows Oklahoma weather let me just tell you it's bipolar. For example, a couple weeks ago I was at the lake getting burned and crisp only to spend that very next day wrapped up in a blanket next to our outdoor fire place. The weather completely shifted from hot to cold. (let me inform everyone that this change is very dangerous in Oklahoma because it creates tornadoes). Before reading our text book and watching the videos our teacher had posted, I would of just thought the weather change was normal for Oklahoma, however to my surprise the drastic changes in climate is
Did you know that the United States is the second largest contributor of CO2, and the less concerned about it? Climate change has been a problem for decades, but just recently we start to see how big of a problem climate change is, and can be. Climate change is one of the biggest problems that we are facing right now, even if keep trying to act like is nothing. Everybody, the people, the government, and big companies are a big contributor of this phenomenon. The more we keep denying its effects, the more we are going to regret it later, and going to wish that we could go back and try to fix the issue. You going to know one day, and its going to be late. Climate change should be the U.S government main focus this decade and the ones to come. Climate change can affect a country in every way economically, destroyed …., cause a lot of deaths.
