Located in present-day Tattawa High School (isolated New England school), the main character Scotty Weems is a basketball star, and in this book, he is accompanied by seven other students including his two best friends Pete Dubois and Jason Gillespie. When the book begins, a relatively small snow storm hit the area. As the snow keeps piling on, the school decides to have an early dismissal. However, Scotty and his friends stay after school to work on a school project which turns out to be a life-changing decision. Since the snowstorm suddenly becomes a terrifying blizzard, Jason’s dad is unable to pick up the trio from the school, and they are left stranded with four other students. The school is buried from the snow, and the seven students

In the small southern town of Cold Sassy, Georgia, at the turn of the twentieth century, teenage boys had to grow up fast. They were not in any way sheltered from the daily activities of the town. This was especially true for fourteen year old Will Tweedy. Olive Ann Burns’ first, and only completed novel, Cold Sassy Tree, tells of young Will’s coming-of-age. His experiences with religion, progress, and death in Cold Sassy escorted him along the path to manhood.

I am reading Trapped by Michael Northrop and I am on page 213. This book is about seven kids who are stuck in Tattawa Regional High School for a week. They stay after school one day and are not able to leave because of the crazy amount of snow. They try to get help before the roof caves in on them or they run out of food and water. In this journal, I will be predicting and evaluating.
This lesson will take place throughout the months of November and December in a class of sixth graders. I will do this lesson during this time period due to the relatable Minnesota weather, which can help the students make connections while reading. I will also use this time period to nicely finish the semester off with a final project about the novel, before the students go home for their Holiday and Winter breaks.
After getting tormented continuously, it suddenly stops but Marshall - her best friend becomes the new target. The police gets involved after Avalon confesses to her parents about her suffering. Marshall decides to end his life surprisingly, which changes the whole story. The bullies are unknown but Avalon suspects it is Alice the popular girl, but in the end the person who is the bully is unforeseen. This captivating book has an unexpected ending due to the dramatic plot twist - death and not having the stereotypical bully. “When I was on that roller coaster....” suggests that the events taken place were very eyeopening and abrupt. Every parent and teenager should be compelled to read this text because of the thought-provoking plot structure.
What seems like a normal situation can get out of hand quickly. Get out while you can, unlike the characters that were created by Michael Northrop in the book Trapped. Strong gusts of wind along with heaps and heaps of snow bury them inside the school. As things grow colder so does Scotty, Jason, Pete, Eli, Krista, Julie, and Elijah’s hope grows smaller. But each of them all have one small light of hope in them, and each one dreams of being rescued and back with their families safe and sound. In the book Trapped Northrop uses dialogue, flashbacks, and symbolism to make the characters more relatable and realistic.
Knowles depicts the school as the American nation moving from the innocence of isolation to the harsh realities of a world war. For the boys at the Devon school, excluding Finny, growing up means building up to the idea that the world is not a safe place. There is threat and hurt in the world that the boys can no longer be sheltered from. On the other hand, Finny remains true to himself throughout the entire novel. He refuses to acknowledge that the war is real and he fails to recognize that he has an enemy, Gene.
Do you desire an intelligent teen comedy with witty dialogue? Do you reminisce on being young without the burden of responsibilities? Do you enjoy revenge stories? Mean Girls is the answer for such a particular audience.
The high school on the reservation was so helpless that the books were as old as Junior’s parents! There were times when Junior’s breakfast was a gallon of orange flavor drink mix. The only Christmas gift he’d receive was a five dollar bill if he was even lucky. Living like this and to not give up like the rest made him a survivor. Junior’s sister had given up school, but once had a dream of writing romance novels. Along with Junior’s sister, Junior’s father and mother gave up way before she did. Everyone else on the reservation had given up since it was ultimately a death camp. Even the young teenagers had given up in school.
Sunshine was pouring out from in between the buildings, casting shadows all around Ponyboy and the gang as they walked to Pony’s school. They were taking their time walking down the streets and for the first time they all were really seeing what was all around them. Memories were surfacing in their minds showing them what it all meant to them. With every step they took on the sidewalk they remembered a different memory as if they were walking down memory lane. Ponyboy didn’t think it was possible for him to be walking down this street for the last time as a high school student, but he had gone through the years with great grades that earned him many scholarships.
School always seemed to fly on Friday. When the final bell rang, Becca headed down the hallway to the office; she could see the table set out for her to sell tickets. Immediately a couple of girls from the sophomore class needed six. After selling twenty more tickets, Becca picked up her nail file. When she finished one hand, Ashley and Miranda came twirling up and offered to help sell tickets. Becca laughed, but knew they were anxious to get to the ice rink for hockey game night. “You guys go get ready…I’m not staying long anyway. I’ll see you tonight.”
The school he attends when he is a little older is a school by any means, but there is great turmoil. Often the older boys pick on the younger ones and while this may be brought to the attention of the director (the principle, headmaster etc.) the older boys would be punished but it would be so overlooked that as soon as they were finished being punished, they would return from their beatings and give them back tenfold to the young boys who told on them. This section is actually one of my favorite parts.
Girls perch on the tables like exotic birds gossiping and giggling, a football fly’s above their heads between two jocks in varsity jackets parading their toned muscles. Groups of high schoolers sit around the room laughing. Weekend has arrived and the hallways of the school were filled with tons of kids ready to go home. Every ear filled with the sound of multiple conversations going off at once, lockers opening and closing, music blasting without. I had managed to push past the constant stream of children and to the school field. The grass was damp and covered in a thin layer of frost. As I walked my footprints were embedded, leaving a piece of me in the cold ground. I saw my friends faraway chattering and fooling around. I was stuck in the wrong crowd; they are nothing like me but somehow I am still friends with them. I slowly made my way up to my “so called friends”.
