The reading passage talks about there are three theories about the main cause of the extinction of Steller’s sea cow. However, the professor claims that one of the reading statement is convincing, which contradicts what the reading states. In the lecture, he uses three specific reasons to support his idea. First, the reading passage suggests that the sea cows become extinct because of over hunted by groups. On the contrary, the professor casts doubt on it. She argues in the lecture that the sea cows’ extinction have not relationship with over hunted. This is because these groups did not hunt a lot of them. Obviously, the professor disproves its counterpart in reading. Moreover, the author declares that the sea cow population becomes extinct
Most people today have visited or at least heard of the popular tourist attraction, Seaworld. These tourists may think of it as a place to see marine animals do trick, like killer whales interacting with humans in a fun and entertaining way- but do we ever stop to think about the treatment or feelings of these creatures? After visiting Seaworld and seeing the famous Shamu, the thought of how living in captivity affects the animal had not crossed my mind. After researching I am now extremely concerned with the way these whales are impacted by spending their lives in bathtubs and forced to do tricks for food, all while humans are blindly funding this billion dollar business.
C.Students who know a lot about sharks are less likely to monitor their comprehension and so may misunderstand parts of the assigned reading material.
Killer whales are one of the most fascinating displays of ocean life. The killer whale has characteristics that are important to its survival in the ocean. It is interesting to know that killer whales have a plentiful diet. It is astounding to see how killer whales behave in the ocean. I plan to tell you about the killer whale, its characteristics, its diet, and its behavior in the ocean as well as the predation of the orca.
The lecture explained how the population of sea otters declined, due to the environmental pollution. First, the oil rigs along the Alaskan coat serve as an indication to pollution. This directly refutes the reading passage which states that predation was most likely the reason, since the bodies of the dead sea otters didn't wash on the shores.Secondly, the passage mention that the water samples that were extracted from the sea revealed the presence of chemicals. Again, this contradicts with the lecture which claims that the whales which the otters consume were not available anymore. Which had forced the sea otters to change their diet to include small sea animals. Thirdly, the lecture mentions that the decrease in sea otters population was
For years the killer whale, also known as Orcinus orca, has been drawing the attention of the public through the entertainment industry. These marine mammals have been bringing in billions of dollars to amusement parks such as Sea World, but at what cost? An idea that these killer whales can live happily and content while in captivity may be going through the minds of the public, but this cannot be further away from the truth. To have such complex creatures in captivity is not morally correct and there are many points against it, such as their level of emotional competence, violence between the killer whales, violence of killer of whales towards trainers, shorter lifespans, physical harm, and their level of intelligence. After taking a look at how these creatures function and the conditions they are put in while in captivity, there is no question about whether or not these mammals should be kept in captivity; an experience such as this affects these marine mammals just about the same as it would affect a human because of their high highly developed emotions and complexity. Since these industries do not have a natural authority over these creatures no matter the cause, the best thing they could do for these killer whales is to stop capturing them and return those who are capable back to the wild.
“Can you imagine being in a small concrete enclosure for your life when you’re used to swimming 100 miles a day?” This is how captive dolphins live everyday, their natural habitat is swimming miles and miles in the ocean. When they get captured their lives change for the worse. In the past decade Seaworld and captive animals has been a controversial subject. Many people believe the keeping orca whales captive is damaging to the animal and affects them in a negative way. Others believe Seaworld is used to rescue animals and save them. The treatment of animals in captivity is cruel and should be stopped. Keeping animals captive is an appalling punishment.
Animal captivity acts as a broad way for the public to view and enjoy wild species. However, “it transforms helpless, harmless animals into aggressive, agitated monsters” (4). “Wild animals should never be kept in captivity- especially not at SeaWorld Parks” (7), and little did you know that kept Animals in captivity are deprived of their loved ones, their freedom, and their personal will to carry on, which lead to them becoming highly aggressive. The conditions in captivity are horrifying and disgusting. The animals have to have a better place to live in so that they will have the capability of striving. Why do you think so many species are in danger of going extinct? Many believe that SeaWorld is a family-friendly incorporation and an
The sea mink (Neovison macrodon) was a mammal from the eastern coast of North America, in the family of weasels and otters in the order Carnivora. The largest of the minks, it was hunted to extinction by fur traders before 1903, when it was first given a species description. Some biologists classify it as a subspecies of the American mink. Estimates of its size are speculative, based largely on skull fragments recovered from Native American shell middens, and on tooth remains. Some information on its appearance and habits was provided by fur traders and Native Americans. It may have been similar in behavior to the American mink: it probably maintained home ranges, was polygynandrous, and had a similar diet, supplemented by saltwater prey. Sea
The reading passage tries to give some reasons to show that the number of sea otters, a small mammal living along the western coast of North America, has significantly declined because of the environmental pollution. On the other hand, the professor on the lecture looks at this concept through a different lens and believes that attacking by the predators like orca are possible for this problem.
Both the reading and lecture talk about the extinction of sea cows. The reading claims that there are three reasons about the extinction of sea cows. Howevere the lecture argues that no evidence proves those reasons that are correct. Thus, the lecture holds an opposite view of the reading.
First, the article claims that the sea cows may have been overheated by groups of native Siberian people. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that sea cow was a massive creature and couple of them will be enough to feed the Siberian population. Also, the Siberian population was not large, so they don’t have to hunt a lot of cows to feed themselves. As a result, they were not the cause that drop the cow’s population to the extinction point.
The lecture talks about the cause of the decline of sea otters and attributed that to the predidation. However, the reading claims that the decline of the sea otters is because of the pollution.
First, the reading claims that sea cows have been overhunted by the group of native Siberian people. The professor refutes this point by saying that sea cows are very massive and one sea cow has about 10 tons meat. He states that the number of the native Siberian people are limited, therefore, this amount of the meat adequate for them for a month. So, it cannot be the cause of the extinction because they don't need to the meat much.
First, the reading states that the sea cows may have been overhunted by groups of native Siberian people. The professor opposed this point by saying that sea cow is a very massive animal about 9 meter long and 10 tons weight. The professor pointed out that two sea cows can give enough amount of food for months for a Siberian people, especially that Siberian people is not that large, so they do not have to hunt a lot of sea cows. Therefore, the professor stated that the sea cows hunting
Fish’s Reader Response Criticism is composed of two interdependent ideas: first, that the meaning of texts is shaped by the reading experience itself, and second, that these meanings cannot be judged to be correct or incorrect, but merely belonging to one “interpretive community” or another. The first idea may be identified as the executive aspect of Reader Response Criticism because it analyzes the act of reading, while the second idea is the epistemological aspect of the theory because it circumscribes the knowledge we can acquire about a text to the merely relative. Studied independently, each aspect of Reader Response Theory offers by itself strong arguments countervailing the formalist stance of the New Critics. But as we will see,
