THE STRATEGIES OF SEATBELT POLICY AND PLANNING
Seatbelt policy require a combined approach which include the legislation, penalties, standards and interventions (mandatory and voluntary) in order to increase the compliance of its enforcement. Enforcement of this policy is expected to be the most effective tool for a high level compliance among the motorists.
Pre-requirements
There are three basic requirements to be followed before the enforcement campaign begins.
1. Lead by example: All government agencies, most especially the
Police departments, health and transportation should make it mandatory for all their staffs under their employee contracts to always be seen wearing the seatbelts at all times.

The capacity of police force in terms of number and resources should be examined in advance so as to explore the procedure to take in order to integrate the enforcement of seatbelt law into existing policing activities. Traffic police must be well trained in the seatbelt law and how best to enforce it.
Once the resources owned by the police is determined, they can easily decide whether to introduce a blanket enforcement which covers all areas or phase enforcement where they target areas where seatbelt wearing rate is low or areas where casualty rates is high among vehicle occupants.
Actions of the police when violators are apprehended can also be phased. Warnings and explanation of the new laws could be started with for a specific period before the introduction of the appropriate fines. Increasing the fine severity can also help to increase the use of seatbelts among the vehicles occupant but this can only be implemented through legislation process.

When you see so many incidents lately on the news regarding the students riding the bus, the lack of supervision, and sometimes the harmful acts being done to other students; you wonder why these things are happening. Or perhaps there was an accident involving a bus where a student was severely hurt. I am for seatbelts being on school buses for the simple fact that anything could happen on a bus even an accident and the students should be safe. The issue of seatbelts on a bus is not a huge controversial issue compared to other issues such as whether or not English should be the official language or abortion, but it is an important issue to be discussed and made a decision on.
Dana Maliepaard was a young girl who went to Glasgow High School and was involved in an unrestrained car accident. Dana’s mother, Christie Maliepaard, believes that it is necessary to share Dana’s story with others so that they may learn from it. Dana’s story is used to show teen drivers that it is not only expected, but necessary to wear a seat belt. By wearing a seat belt when driving a car or riding in one, you are able to not only save your own life, but the ones of the people who care about you.
Therefore, it would be unethical for individual citizens to ignore the governmental requirement for people to use seat belts in their vehicles. Adhering to seat belt laws is important for individuals not only in improving drivers and travelers use of seatbelts through penalty avoidance and police enforcement but also indirectly by enhancing a culture of good ethical behaviors. I lost a relative in a car crash. Can you imagine how I felt when I found out? He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and was thrown off the road through the windshield. Car companies should start making cars that require everybody in the vehicle buckled up or else the car won’t start. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the chances of injury, also the law requires you to wear a seatbelt.
Another campaign is the “click it or ticket”, although indirect relate with public health, the end result can be that in an accident the victim will end up in a hospital, when he or she did not wear a seatbelt.

Car manufacturers need to create a system for seatbelts so that all vehicle operaters have ensured safety. If you do not wear a seatbelt when you are operating a vehicle you are a huge liability and danger to everyone around you and also to yourself. Lets say for example you’re driving on i-35 and the car in front of you stops without any warning what so ever and you crash into them,you will go flying out of the window and may hurt the driver in the other vehicle,like I said before you’re a flying prejectile waiting to kill anybody in the way.

We often look past some ads not taking into account the importance of it until you see one that sparks your interest. Seat belts although they are the most effective safety device on cars must be made safer. Out of all people who died in car accidents, 63% of those were not wearing seat belts (seatbelts). This goes to show you the effectiveness of seat belt. Therefore automotive manufactures must mandate the installation of 5-point seatbelt on all cars. In all major race car organization such as NASCAR (National Association Stock Car Automotive Racing) they require these 5-point seat belt. A seat belt is a long strap attached to a car seat, this tool was designed to keep the passenger in place when in a collision. According to, Traffic with a smile, “ Today, the seat belt serves to protect drivers and passengers from injury during any type of collision.” Tnsafety.org says, “More than 50% of vehicle occupants killed in crashes in Tennessee were not wearing seat belts.” There are many people that die everyday, because they had a collision and were not wearing a seatbelt.
