In the project, the predominant issue was the lack of cultural and linguistic resources and learning experiences that are accessible for parents and children in the service. The lack of sense of belonging and social cohesion marginalises children and parents. Language and culture are predominant components in the children’s lives as it allows them to communicate their culture and language in their community (Saracho & Spodek, 2010). Therefore, the project incorporates multicultural and multilingual resources in the setting and ensures children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are contributed respectfully and strengthen social cohesion. In addition, the inequity of linguistic resources creates social exclusion
A fundamental part of human existence and interaction is the notion of belonging or identifying with a group. Groups form and exist for various reasons and purposes, comprising of individuals similar or diverse in nature, that often work together toward a common goal (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2014). In 1902, the American sociologist by the name of C. H. Cooley, made distinction between primary and secondary groups. Cooley (1902) classified primary group to have intimate and comparatively permanent associations as one might find in a cohort of close friends, or a family. The groups or associations in which individuals related to each other through formal and often legalistic rules, were classified as secondary groups (Nolen, 2010).

The welfare of the child is paramount and that is why partnership with parents is crucial. Many schools and nurseries also have bi-lingual staff for children who do not speak English fluently so that the parents are fully aware of what is going on in a school at
“We belong … like fish in water. We’re in our environment.” This quote from the New York Times shows the perception of belonging as the idea about connecting to a place, person, group or a community. 'Feliks Skrzynecki' by Peter Skrzynecki, 'I'm nobody! Who are you?' by Emily Dickinson and 'The Rabbits' by John Marsden & Shaun Tan show the concept of belonging as being contrasted towards the New York Times quote, showing the alienation and non-existent connection towards it. These texts have furthered my understanding on the perceptions of belonging by recognising the different concepts of connection to people, places and things.

In a society where individuals can freely do things, that still abide to laws, things can get out of place. Of course there will be a small cluster of those who decide that the law may not always be right. From that cluster, there is a majority who disobey laws in a harsh manner, and the minority who do it peacefully. The question is, how does it impact our society? The truth is, disobeying anything can give people negative connotations. If you peacefully resist, the punishment might not be as hard then if you resist with frustration. However, there are cases where they broke the law, but they did it 'for the people'. An example of this Robin Hood, is a guy named Edward Snowden. He showed us information that the government themselves, were
The foundation of belonging is often associated with the loss of a person’s individuality. Indeed, as the construction of one’s identity is highly intricate and ever – changing, several authorities often considers its development to be associated with our relationships. From this, it can be shown that belonging can be associated with the degradation of one’s identity. Such impact can be explained through the reality that in order to belong, we must share similar characteristics or identity with that group however this can involve enhancing character’s identity. Nonetheless, due to its complexities, for some, belonging can threaten a person’s identity and individuality.
Belonging is an experience that can change not only those whom aspire to belong but can also change the lives of those around for the better
The issue of belonging in society for humans with disabilities has been a complication for as long as our human nature has known because of the titles such as "special." People would suggest by now our knowledge on treatment of humans with special needs and the resilience it takes to care for them would make life easier for their families and loved ones. This happens to be the opposite. Across America the word "special" is being misused and sarcastically to speak of ones with disabilities in a rude manor. Although is it a word meant for building up and encouragement, in cases today it is a word built on isolation and dehumanization. In our modern society, the word "special" comes with a negative connotation because of the dehumanizing and bigotry
My interest in this topic dates back in high school when I realized how much effect sense of belonging had on my education. During elementary school, things used to happen just like I wanted. Teachers, other pupils were quite friendly. In fact, school was the most exciting place I always wanted to be. I was always the best performing pupil in continuous assessment test and end of year’s exams. Things changed when I went to high school. Everyone was very busy with their work. Teachers and fellow were quite serious. I found that my grades were not as excellent as in elementary school. Nothing motivated me. My behavior worsened and at some point, I even wanted to drop out of school as I felt that I was completely out of place. I believe that
Academic Decathlon is a stressful week of tests and other activities. It is my annual tradition of going vegetarian for this said so week. Although, I am stress eating a carrot and wondering if I am going to do good on my next test, it is a fun time to be with my team and meet other people who studied the material the entire
The context of our identity and belonging can we viewed in various ways, which may cause our identities to change within multiple contexts. For example, context can range from how an individual acts around their families and work colleagues to how they act around their close friends and partners and also the setting an individual is in.
This can mean an individual with an ASC may struggle to recognise and interpret peoples feeling and emotions. The individual may also have difficulty expressing their own emotions. This can lead to social exclusion as their behaviour may appear inappropriate to the context of a social situation. The person may also appear insensitive as they might not pick up on the social ques of another person. They may prefer to spend time alone and not seek out others for company, preferring to occupy themselves with their preferred interest. Again this might be misinterpreted by others as the individual being aloof or disinterested. Finally a difficulty in social imagination can result in an individual with an ASC struggling to predict other’s behaviour.
The struggle to belong and find one’s place is significant in the lives of some people.
In today’s society, there is a great deal of exclusion that is seen every day. There are many reasons why a person may get excluded from a group, they may be seen as weird, poor, not attractive, smelly, etc. Most of the people that are excluded will try and find a different group of friends to hang out with that don’t act like the so called “friends” that have excluded them in the past. Some may even dream of having a super power in hopes of over conquering someone else such as, looking and acting differently, or having the latest greatest.
