"Homes with a security system are less likely to be targeted by criminals, according to a report issued by the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. This information was obtained directly from criminals, as 60 percent of individuals convicted of burglary stated they would target a different home if they were aware of a residence having

In fact, approximately 30 percent of burglaries occur when a family member is home. Imagine this being a child or a spouse who is unprepared to defend themselves and see why it is so important to have security measures in place.
"Although we all want to think our home is a safe haven from the outside world, this sadly isn't the case. An unprotected home is a beacon to criminals, and some won't hesitate to hurt individuals who are present in the home. In fact, seven percent of burglaries that take place when someone is at home result in violent crime. Don't let this be your loved one. Install a security system today," the staff continues.
Sadly, burglars often find it easy to access a home because a door or window has been left unlocked. A security system cannot prevent entry when this is the case, and the average burglar needs less than ten minutes to clear the home of items they want. Homeowners should take this into account even when in the home and keep the system armed to prevent unwanted
Studies have demonstrated, repeatedly, that homes with a firearm are no safer than those without guns. In fact, the sight of a gun during an intrusion is cause for action, deterring thought, which could make all the difference between life and unnecessary death. Besides which, most gun murders at home aren 't perpetrated by an intruder, but rather by a family member or an acquaintance.
Intruding – In the case of an intruder, dial 999. To prevent this from happening ensuring doors and windows have locks, check visitors I.D on arrival, ask visitors to sign in to the building and sign out.
Your security system will probably begin with a security door (probably made of steel) and good locks on all windows. Oversize doors, French doors, and patio doors might be equipped with multi-point locks. If you live in a condo or apartment, your doors might be equipped with multi-point locks. This type of lock is especially appropriate on the very wide and tall doors often installed in loft apartments or condos. Instead of just a locking doorknob and a deadbolt, a multi-point lock will also include a metal bolt or bar running the height of the door that fastens into the door frame at two additional
The topic of home defense and the extent of force a homeowner is allowed to use depends on the state one resides in as well as the state’s laws on home defense. In many states, like the state of New Jersey, there is what is known as, “Duty to Retreat” laws. These states are predominantly located in the north and do not allow the homeowner to take much action against an intruder. The “Duty to Retreat” is a duty of which citizens of a particular state are required by law to first look for a path of retreat before confronting the intruder. If the path of retreat does not present itself, the home owner can then take action. This “action” however, does not allow the homeowner to forcibly engage with the intruder. The intruder must first show signs of aggression towards the homeowner or their family. In the event that the intruder does show signs of aggression, the homeowner is only allowed to counter with equal force. For example, if the intruder only has their hands to fight the homeowner, the homeowner cannot draw a firearm and discharge at the intruder. This is the mentality of many states across the nation when it comes to defending one’s self or personal property. However, the other half of the states in the United States employ different tactics, which allow the homeowner to stand their ground against an intruder. These states are predominantly located in the south, with the exception of three northern states: Alaska, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. Within these states, a
In many cases it is true that the average man truly wants safety rather freedom. When one is safe they feel good, they feel they can do whatever they want because of the fact they are protected. Families by home security system to
People often hear or maybe seen on the news of houses being broken into. We do our best to protect ourselves and our families from the unenviable happening. We have locks, we purchase alarm systems and other forms of defense to keep strangers out and our possessions in. When I woke up on Tuesday, April 6th, 2011, I never imagined someone would come inside of my home and ramble through my things and take from me whatever they wanted. If I could have seen into the future, I would attempt to change the minds of the guys who broke into my apartment.
According to D. Leger (2013) “Violent crime in the United States rose for the second year in a row”, these figures are off a 2012 survey conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. The Federal Bureau of Investigations constitutes violent crimes as murder, forced rape, robbery, and aggravated assault ("Crime in the," 2012). Residents need to have a legal shield for protecting themselves during a violent crime inside their home; this legal shield is the Castle Doctrine (Light, 2012). Violent criminals do not have regards about laws that law-abiding citizens have. They will inflict bodily harm to cover their illicit activities without the worry of legal repercussions. Law-abiding citizens should have the right and
Completed the home safety checklist, made me think about how items are arranged in the home. Guns are in the safe, even though meals at times are sparse we seem to get by. I make sure that what I grow and bring into the house most of the time have good nutritional value. What I do not understand is how in the past an abusive relationship would affect the safety of my children. We are nowhere near that individual and the relationship lasted 6 months, and ended because of the first and final abuse. Plus between my husband and I, our expertise would handle the situation in short order. Being soldiers we have a plan if someone was to come into our home uninvited. Declan (3) stays where he is, Tristin (5) moves to Declan and holds his hand and never lets go. Mama protects boys and call 911, and dada takes care of perpetrator. What will happen we don’t know but everyone knows there role and how to accomplish it.
At the end of the day, if they want in bad enough, they'll go for it. The idea is to make your house less attractive to burglars by taking preventive measures, increasing the time it takes to break in. If you've taken the steps I've listed above, your typical burglar will move on to the next house who didn't adequately protect their
In the case of a home invasion, people suggest to have a “safe room” where your whole family can hide in which there is a telephone to call the police. Unfortunately, not all living creatures have access to things other than themselves to protect them.
Have you ever thought about all the people who have had copies of your home’s keys through the years? You’ve probably given a few spare keys to trusted friends and neighbors. Naturally, you’ve given a copy to every roommate or long-term houseguest you’ve ever had. Add in the occasional house sitter, past residents, real estate agents, contractors who needed access during construction, and everyone they’ve given keys to. That’s a lot of keys. Clearly, merely having good locks on your doors is not enough to keep your possessions or your family safe.
The average homeowner in Austin probably does not have a clue about the way a burglar operates and selects a target. It is important for Austin homeowner's to realize the true facts about burglars in order to stay safe and protect their home.
I've installed security bars because I have eight beautiful children and a beautiful wife and I moved to Randolph Ranch for the sake of a safer community environment especially since I'm usually gone for most of the day. Since we've been here, for the first time we had to call the police, twice. We've had a robbery. All of our jewelry and electronics were stolen, but I have to say my children's feeling of security and safety inside of our own home was also stolen and every time they hear something, they call me crying saying "someone is inside our home." I've had to come home about five times from my job terrified. The second police incident was
