World champion tennis player Serena Williams was once quoted as saying “a champion is defined not by their wins, but how they can recover when they fall.” I am fond of this quote because it hold true not only in sports, but in all facets of life, business, and success. I am sure many applicants can tell you stories of great success and how it was in these moments their abilities as a leader were forged. How their achievements led them to be better people and stronger leaders. My story is perhaps a bit different. My leadership has been derived from life experience, love, and a “strong” unwillingness to accept failure.
In any of life’s endeavors, leadership, inspiration, and guidance is derived from 3 words: Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

An avid guitar player since I was 11, it was not long after my graduation from high school that I developed a successful career as a musician that took me all over the west coast. Realizing the situation and the requirements, I eased up on touring, shows, and recording. I relocated back home to care for my father and help my mother. I organized my father’s medical appointments, kept track of his medications to ensure that there would be nothing with counteractive effects, and saw to it that they were taken on a regular basis. I also transported him to all of his chemo appointments so that he would be able to receive every possible treatment. Job conditions in Las Vegas were very sparse, so when I was unable to find work, I started my own business out of the home. This allowed me the ability to not only care for my father, assist my mother, and keep in contact with my brother, but it also afforded the opportunity to face my greatest challenge and current objective –my MBA. After some time my father would overcome the cancer and his foot would heal. It was during this time that I made the decision to return back to school, to better prepare myself for the future that lay ahead
This experience stands out more than most as a catalyst for the development of my leadership abilities. I am not frightened by pressure because I have been in situations where the results can be dire. Pressure can either crush you into dust or turn you into a
As my resume indicates, I have worked in leadership positions locally and internationally. I have worked hard to strengthen and develop the leadership skills needed to succeed. My experience is broad — from competing in speech tournaments to teaching

Leadership is the elaboration of group inspiration. One person entrusted as leader can implore the aid, and support of supporters in the accomplishment of a common mission. According to Gurdjian, Halbeisen, and Lane “Becoming a more effective leader often requires changing behavior. But although most companies recognize that this also means adjusting underlying mind-sets, too often these organizations are reluctant to address the root causes of why leaders act the way they do” (Gurdjian, Halbeisen, and Lane, 2014) However, today abundant businesses engross importance on the improvement of leaders. Some of the ultimate leaders were formerly followers, such as in instructive businesses. One aspect as leaders many have to contemplate in striving
In the Leadership Challenge, 4th edition, it is Kouzes & Posner (2007) intention to present a road map for individuals to follow on their leadership journey. The authors stress that “leadership is not a gene and it’s not an inheritance.” Leadership they assert is “an identifiable set of skills and abilities that are available to all of us” (p. 23). They make clear that the “great person” theory of leadership is “plain wrong.” Leaders are our everyday heroes who do extraordinary things on a regular basis (p. 23).
Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member. That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. The nomination and election process, gave me the opportunity to grow and nurture my leadership abilities. It was eminently challenging; but I learned the importance of discipline and hard work. I accomplished my goal and was nominated Secretary for FCCLA. This office allowed me to meet plenty
Since childhood, I had a chance to develop my leadership and organizational skills through sports and had my school team win many competitions. My school is one of the places where my leadership qualities are valued as I often become a head of many activities, such as staging plays, organizing shows and school trips with my teachers. Being a leader gives me the opportunity to work in a team and consider my peers’ ideas to make our plans creative and enjoyable for everyone. My personal traits help me to gain trust and respect of my peers as they believe me to be a positive, open-minded and reliable person. I have learned to solve problems and conflicts thanks to this great experience of leadership, and I am always ready to assist my peers when it is
Tennis dates back many centuries ago, and is believed to be played by ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. It has evolved over the years, and today the tennis style is tremendously different from previous centuries. Many different tennis styles have been adapted over the years, and today tennis has become a more aggressive sport. It is very different from when the players use to ding the ball back and forth across the net. Today tennis is played with a lot more force and it has become a more engaging sport from the sport it used to be just a century ago. The William Sisters, Venus and Serena Williams, have had a huge impact on the game of tennis. When they peaked to fame it changed the way everyone saw the game of tennis.

My duties in the long-term care community is the motivational factor in my enrollment back into school. As I reflect throughout the course, I realize that I had the ability and potential to excel in a leadership role. In module 3, we participated in the MindTools leadership assessment where I scored a 74 of 90. I scored strong on self-confidence and motivating people to deliver the vision. The areas that I needed to work on are: being a good role model, managing performance effectively, and providing support and stimulation. I scored 8 of 10 on positive attitude and outlook, emotional intelligence and providing a compelling vision of the future. I expressed that I was a bit disappointed to see myself scoring low on being a good role model because I considered myself one. In my current position, I lead by example. Leading by example has a significant impact on helping inspire your employees to do the same. Anyone can have a vision and can tell others how to execute that vision but leading by example is a way to demonstrate a better way of working (McCrimmon, 2011). Several people describe vision as an essential part of leadership, in contrast, leading by example is the key to becoming a successful leader. Consequently, the MindTools leadership assessment provided myself the inspiration to continue with a degree program in Bachelor Science of Healthcare Administration and Management.
First, about my past leadership skills were understanding and gaining knowledge from people. When I was a child, I would always look up to my father and mother as role models to help lead a family together. Both of my parents gave me positive reinforcement in school and out of school so I can be successful in life. I have also taken an interest in
The sum of education, experiences, and observations lays a foundation upon which I will grow to become a good leader. In this plan, I will focused on those aspects of leadership that I believe are most required for personal development as well as those which will be so significant for my future leadership career. I have identified three goals which will guide me in the development process. My goals are to develop my integrity, listening skills and communications skills. I assume that this plan will change and be altered as required by life circumstances.
My personal experiences of leadership started when I was younger, roughly 7 years old, I was elected the captain of my travel soccer team. At the time I didn’t think much of it, nor did I have any extra duties that I was explicitly told that I needed to perform. Later throughout the season, I started to notice my teammates mimicking my styles and techniques and I highly enjoyed this feeling of being looked up to. I didn 't realize until years after that the recognition and pride I felt was leadership. This privilege of being captain was the first time I had realized that people weren 't necessarily following my actions because I was extraordinarily skilled, but because I provided this role model status with my confidence and encouragement. Some of the most valuable leaderships traits that I acquired and fortified are:
Confidence and leadership reveals everything about an individual’s unique personality. Whether demonstrated in sports or everyday life, leadership is extremely valuable in the sense of working well with others. I have learned to develop this trait in sports, work, and school. I have especially demonstrated this trait during my junior year by participating in York County’s Distinguished Young Women’s Program. Not only did this allow me to develop a relationship with strangers, but also allowed me to explore outside of my comfort zone and project myself to a higher degree than
