Service For A Volunteer At United Hospital

I am currently volunteering at Atlantic Care Hospital, I have learned a lot ever since I began volunteering from November. During volunteering I meet different people, I talk to them and have learned new things from them. I stay after school very thursday and help tutor for math. Volunteering to me didn’t seem very pleasing at first. My focus was simply getting the hours I needed to make my resume look good. However, my perspective changed when I began getting involved with the various activities of the community. I enjoyed helping and serving others, seeing the positive impact I made gave me a great satisfaction. Thankfully, I have volunteered in many areas, however there are a few organizations in which I have invested more time and effort.

I currently do not volunteer at a particular place regularly, but volunteer at various places as much as I can and have accumulated over 250 hours while in high school. By volunteering, students get an opportunity to serve the community and provide help to those who need it, yet not expecting anything in return. For me, I have learned the value of hard work, especially when it makes other peoples’ lives better while volunteering.

Service is something that every person does in their life. I try to do as much service as I can, which means a lot of my service is in the summer or while school in on breaks. While service can be done through organizations and for well-known causes, service is also seen in everyday life. Service can be through small acts of kindness, such as, holding open the door, helping someone who’s carrying a particularly heavy load, or simply just being there when they need a shoulder to lean on. Service is about making someone day brighten with little rays of kindness and to show that someone out there definitely cares for them.

Being a volunteer at the UM Charles Regional Medical Center is a great way to give back your community and in a small way help society to become a better place. However, before you can become a full volunteer there are certain requirements that you will need to fulfil.

If I were to give each of you $100 right now, wouldn’t you be happy? (Attention) Well I can’t do that. This is because even when something seems free, there is always a net financial investment. Between band practice, studying, and officer meetings, I find time to volunteer. Through my 3 clubs, I have completed over 250 hours of volunteer service. Many of my service hours have come from HOSA, where I can obtain clinical experience through volunteering at nursing homes, health fairs, or hospitals. From day one my mom taught me that you will get more satisfaction giving to and helping others than you ever will by just doing things for yourself. I truly believe this. Volunteering to teach swimming lessons, organizing recycled items, and visiting the nursing home are all things I have been involved in and doing each of those I have learned more and more about how important service is. Just recently my classmates and I helped an elderly woman move all of her belongings out of her home and into the 4H building for an auction. Ever since I started school, I had always wanted to be involved in the community in some way whether it be at school, home, or in my town. To help the benefit of others and learn more about responsibility, I try to volunteer as much as I can. I volunteer throughout the year for The National Wild Turkey Federation (which I became a committee member of), and for Feed My Starving Children. Volunteering for the Archery Club and different volleyball clinics are also activities I enjoy. Volunteering is a passion of mine because it is a way that I can help others and give back to my community.

Service is any contributions one makes in a community without expecting anything in return. It is where you help just to help, not to show off or anything of that sort. It giving not receiving. I provide Service in school and in my community. In school, I help kids who need help on homework, little kid who need help getting to places around the school, to tying shoes, helping teachers who need doors decorate, papers printed, etc. In my community, I contribute by participating in “Toys for Tots,” can food drive, being a speaker for different programs, helping the elder walk to helping them carry their groceries. One of my extracurricular activities was volunteering at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, PA during the 10th and 11th grade. I gave patients food and water, answered call bells, and comforted and transported patients. I volunteered for 4 hours a week, 15 weeks a year, and had a total of 120 volunteer hours. Over the course of a month, I dedicated time to volunteer with agencies that focus on providing safe and productive programs for children. Stop Child Abuse Now also known as SCAN, focuses on stopping/preventing child abuse in homes. This agency teams with many different agencies around Richmond to help parents and children coop and learn way to avoid situations of abuse. My duty for volunteering was teaming with Virginia Commonwealth University Health Services and making SCAN a known organization throughout Richmond community. VCU threw a wellness block party that included many different health services but also gave members of the community to learn and seek help with many different organizations that were there promoting their business or organization. I sat with one other girl and passed out flyers and contact information to those who were interested in the organizations. I explained to individuals what the program was about and the benefits of the program. I had one particular interaction with this young mother who explained she was in a situation where children were being abused and the authorities were notified and now she’s seeking counseling for her and the children involved. I and the other young lady volunteering with me were able to give her information on the program and also contact numbers to individuals that could help her situation. This young woman was very grateful and happy she found an organization that could assist her with her situation. From this

Volunteering at the Laurel nursing home was an eye opener for me. I had done volunteer work before but the one that inspired me the most was for Laurel Nursing Home. As a group from AP Fatheree Vocational Tech Health Science class, we would go to the nursing home whenever they would allow us to come. At the nursing home, we would come up with games and activities to play with everyone such as: cards, bowling, family feud, and karoake. The best part about volunteering there was seeing the joy on their faces as we all walk in. Our presence meant more to them then we all would have expected especially for the ones who rarely got visitors. Being able to sit and listen to some of the stories they had to tell was a blessing. I have volunteered our local chart choose around my neighborhood that have partnered up with the Houston food Bank . Once a month on a Saturday the Houston food Bank sends a truck full of food and the church distributes the food to people in need around the neighborhood. I along with others would work behind the scenes and package all the food into a box and prepare for it to be distributed. Volunteering for this cause was super fulfilling. Regardless the hot weather I would wear again I knew that it was going to such a good cause. Just imagining a family who would otherwise struggle to have a meal to eat would now have a whole feast f have a whole feast ready on their table for their families.

When my aunt asked if I wanted to help at the nursing home, I mainly went because I was bored. When I arrived, I helped the residents play bingo and I even painted a few nails. Even though it does not sound like a lot, I realized on that day how much I loved helping others and how I couldn’t wait to volunteer again.
