The final issue about sexism in the workplace is something that has become an issue because it gets next to no recognition. This issue is sexism towards males in the work place. To some this may seem impossible; how could a male full of opportunity possibly get discriminated at work? The truth is, males do get discriminated and they do need help to dig themselves out of their troubles as well. Seeing this side of gender inequality may be difficult because most times it is only the women who struggle, but here are some reasons as to why men need help as well. The first problem is that employers encourage males not to take paternity leave and tell them to let the woman take it because they do not want them to take the time off. Another reason why men face inequality is due to gender stereotyping. Men are “supposed” to be big, strong, smart, and have all sorts of other amazing characteristics. The issue with this is that several men do not want to be in demand or do not do good under pressure, and therefore find it difficult when trying to own up to a stereotype that does not actually suit them. A dilemma following men not wanting to follow certain conditions is that they can be left out. No individual wants to be left a side in the workplace and many will go above and beyond to be accepted which at times, can be taken too far. “Employees may conform to discriminatory practices even though they do not really agree with them just to fit in” (Jeffrey, Beswick, Meade, pg 19, 2015) A last issue is that since men are to be considered dominant, they suffer from loss of employment whenever employment rates go up for minorities.
