What is an STD? I asked myself this two days ago. An STD is a Sexually Transmitted Disease. I chose this topic because I was unsure of what it was and you hear about it a lot. You mainly hear things about STDs on a Medical Website or TV show. They put stuff like STDs on their websites and shows to show kids how harmful it can be and what it is so they do not get freaked out. There are a few things you can do to cure STDs or prevent them from happening. A few things you can do to prevent it is use a condom, know the health of your partner, and if you have more than one partner get check ups with your doctor. Not all STDs are curable, but if you have STDs you can take medication or get a shot. For the STDs that aren’t curable you do what you can to cure it. The public responds to STDs this way to inform people about the causes of STDs and what they can do to prevent. The public wants to share this because if High Schoolers read about this, they will get freaked out and not want to have sex. Which is a good thing because High Schoolers are too young and inexperienced. It is also good for High Schoolers to know about STDs, so in the future they will know how to help it and not be clueless. If your friend has STDs and you don’t know what they are. You will look it up on the internet and the internet will put the worse stuff on there to scare kids into …show more content…
If you're responsible or don’t have sex your friends will get those vibes and do the same. Society will give you the worse things they can to scare you into buying their products to prevent or cure things. For example, if you have herpes and you see a commercial that says they guarantee their product works, they will cure your herpes, and say really gross or scary things about herpes they are tricking you into buying there product. They are doing that because they want your

organisms that include viruses and bacteria which are transmitted primarily through sexual intercourse. Modes of transmission also include non-sexual activities such as needles sharing during drug use, blood transfusions and vertical transmission from mother to child. STD surveillance and prevention measures are often geared towards adolescent and young adult populations, thus leaving the older adult population unrecognized and vulnerable.
The best way to prevent this disease is to protect yourself with contraception’s, and by not having sexual activity with someone who you think may be infectious.
Now that I have talked about how people can protect themselves from STD's, let's talk about the different kinds of sexually transmitted diseases. There are eight common disease on the rise which are stated in the book titled, Straight Talk About Sexually Transmitted Diseases, written by Michael Brodman, John Thacker, and Rachel Kranz. It lists the top eight to be: Chlamdia, Gonorrhea, Genital Warts, Genital Herpes, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). I'm sure everyone has heard of the most publicized one, AIDS, and I am sure most people have heard of some of the other ones, and I am also sure that a lot of people are not educated about theses diseases. I am going to talk a little about each one so people can see that sex does not only mean enjoyment, or getting pregnant, it also means there's

Herpes is an extremely common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. In fact, about one in four adults are infected with the virus. Some people that are affected are not completely ignoring the fact that they have the disease, but are simply unaware that they are suffering from the virus. Although the virus stays with you for life, it usually doesn’t lead to any serious life-threatening issues.
STD’s stand for sexualy transmited diseases and they are very dangerous. Two STDs are gonorrhea and genital warts. Both of these STDs have many similarities. Gonorrhea and genital warts are similar because they both can be contracted the same way which can be through having sex. They can also be prevented the same way which is to practice safe sex, wear condoms, and not to have sex with more than one person. They are also alike because the can be treated in similar ways because they can both be treated by medication. The more both diseases are left on they get worse and worse causing other bad things. That is how both STD’s are similar.
The more frequent occurrence of STDs in the younger generations are also based upon the multiple barriers in retrieving the benefits in STD prevention services which includes the lack of health insurance or inability to pay, no transportation, embarrassment of the services in the facilities, and worries of discretion. (STDs) According to the US Department of Health and Human Service, twenty five percent of sexually active adolescents have already obtained an STD. (Parillo) The severity of the issue is approached with the control strategies and educational strategies. In which these educational strategies are more effective when it involves a big health educational program that is provided to our minors. The young populations that are particularly affected by STDs are the young women with a low income for it is easier for a female to receive an STD compared to men. And with those women having a low income, they are not able to access the services that are being provided to them. Today, four in ten sexually active adolescent girls have obtained an STD that can cause infertility and death; also two thirds of adolescent boys have HIV diagnoses.
STD’s can lead to major diseases that affect your immune system. Some people don’t know their medical issues because they don’t go to the doctor enough to get checked and make sure they’re healthy. For example, if a teen has symptoms and she didn’t know what it was, she would have to get checked out by a doctor or go to a clinic. People can be allergic to AIDS even though it’s very rare, there allergic reaction is itching, redness, and swelling in your skin (sexually transmitted diseases). The reason being that STIs are common on people with multiple sexual partners.
There are several sexually transmitted diseases that cannot be cured, but can be treated to reduce the symptoms associated with the disease. Herpes, HIV, AIDS, and HPV cannot be cured, but can be regulated through medication.
As with many other diseases, prevention is key. It’s much easier to prevent STDs than to treat them. The only way to completely prevent STDs is to abstain from all types of sexual contact. However, if someone is going to have sex, the best way to reduce the chances of getting STDs are by using condoms.
