Sexually Transmitted Diseases
What are Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's)? How much do you know about STD's? Do you know how to protect yourself from STD's? The answer to these questions is that most people don't know, and if they do, it's very little. Sex has become a big issue in the 90's. Wherever a person looks, sex is advertised. What do you see when you turn on the television, daytime or night? Sex. What do you see when you go to the movies? Sex. In magazines? Sex. Even advertisements in the street revolve around sex. The one thing that is not emphasized is the dangers of sex. The danger of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. I'm sure that people know that AIDS is the most dangerous STD right now, but there are

This little lesson on how to properly use a condom can help prevent sexually active people from getting an STD. Some other protection methods are female condoms, sponges, and diaphrams. When it comes down to choosing a good protection method, there are lots of places people can go to to get information.
Now that I have talked about how people can protect themselves from STD's, let's talk about the different kinds of sexually transmitted diseases. There are eight common disease on the rise which are stated in the book titled, Straight Talk About Sexually Transmitted Diseases, written by Michael Brodman, John Thacker, and Rachel Kranz. It lists the top eight to be: Chlamdia, Gonorrhea, Genital Warts, Genital Herpes, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). I'm sure everyone has heard of the most publicized one, AIDS, and I am sure most people have heard of some of the other ones, and I am also sure that a lot of people are not educated about theses diseases. I am going to talk a little about each one so people can see that sex does not only mean enjoyment, or getting pregnant, it also means there's
On the other hand, the causes of STD’s are probably growing by the numbers. Almost 1 million people die of AIDs/HIV each year. Due to recent history of STD’s the sickness was only in one part of the
1) Abstinence, or preventing sex, is the best way to prevent HIV/STD and pregnancy because if you don't have sex then you don't need to worry about getting pregnant or getting a STD/HIV. Condoms or other ways to prevent it are not always a 100% accurate but if you don't have sex you don't need to worry about it.
I think it is safe to say that no two words elicit more feelings of concern, anxiety, and anger in parents, and stirs up more controversy and debate than the words “sexual education”. This especially true with the implementation of the new, revised sexual education curriculum in Ontario schools. Consequently, this controversy has strongly divided individuals, families, and organizations between those who approved of and those who opposed and protested against school-based programs that providee sexual health education to children. But why so much opposition? This is due to the significant changes made to the sexual education curriculum and the sensitive nature of the topics being taught to children regarding sexuality as a whole, changes which are seen as both radical and “even more explicit and more age-inappropriate than before…” (“Ontario’s Radical,” n.d.).
Sexually transmitted diseases is really important and everyone should know that status. After reading this chapter it really open my eyes statically. I was disbelief about how common many sexually transmitted diseases is. Sexually disease infections is passed through sexual contact. Chlamydia, , Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Genital Warts, Genital Herpes, Acquired Immune Deficiencey. Many of these disease can be transmitted during vaginal, oral, or anal sexual contact with an infected partner.
Numerous sexual partners enables the chances of contracting an STI, such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, or Syphilis, to increase; that being said, statistics indicate that one in every five teens has had four or more sexual partners. Teens of the ages 15 through 19 are among the highest rates of the population infected with the previously mentioned sexually transmitted diseases. Teens engaging in sexual activity are often exposed to diseases without full understanding of the ease that these infections can be transmitted; students need to be exposed to the severe consequences in order to promote more cautious future decisions, like the amount of sexual encounters. Many young males and females never acquire information on the numerous sexually transmitted infections that they could catch and distribute nor how to prevent or treat such diseases. The statistics of high school students that document receiving counseling on STDs and STD testing at a routine checkup with their doctor meets low expectations, recording at 42.8 percent for females and only 26.4 percent for males. The high rates of infected teens could be directly related to the lack of knowledge they receive on the possible diseases that can be distributed through sex. Without proper knowledge on sexually transmitted diseases, the
The term "Sexually Transmitted Diseases" (STD) is not specific for one disease but more than 25 infectious organisms that are transmitted from person to person by sexual intercourse. STDs are almost always transmitted by anal or vaginal intercourse, and oral sex (generally less efficiently). Some STDs are also transmitted through contaminated drug equipment, pretty common among drug users. Since 1980, eight new sexually transmitted pathogens have been recognized in the United States. STDs may cause serious, life-threatening complications including cancers, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortions, stillbirth, low birth weight, neurologic damage.
number one method to prevent STDs, many on the adolescents in this study “perceived sex as normal and abstinence as unlikely” (Akers, A., et al., 2012, p. 92).
Sexually transmitted diseases, also commonly known as STDs or STIs, are very simply a variety of bacterial diseases that are spread through sexual means. STDs are often taken lightly, viewed with a sort of disgusted mockery. Many people do not realize the risks that come with catching an STD. This includes a higher chance of developing diseases such as cancer, urethritis, HIV, another STD, becoming infertile (inability to have kids), and more. In order to avoid further damage done to the body, STDs should try to be caught early so that the patient may receive treatment. This, however, is not something that is always easily done.
occur more frequently in the teenagers than in older populations, and half of new HIV
Prior to taking this class, I wasn't fully aware of how common sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) were in the world. I learned that the main key in preventing the further spread of STD's is to focus not on the individual, but the broader culture that is ingrained in our society. The spread of STD's is an intensive problem within American society. This paper will briefly summarize the extent of the problem and conclude with what can be done as a society to prevent the spread of STD's.
There are so many people in this world with an STD that know they have it and will not tell others’ that they sleep with, so they spread it. Especially on college campuses. There are also people who do not know they have an STD yet, but as long as they do not know and are having sex they can be spreading it to many others. An STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. Some of the STD’S that they are spreading are life changing and irreversible.
I’ll show you a short video clip. First of all, if you want to avoid getting STDs, you should practice abstinence.
The use of condoms can help this problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “Consistent and correct use of latex condoms is highly effective in preventing sexual transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, lab studies have shown that latex condoms provides an effective barrier against even the smallest STD pathogens. Condom effectiveness for STD and HIV prevention has been demonstrated by both laboratory and epidemiologic studies. Evidence of condom effectiveness is also based on theoretical and empirical data regarding the transmission of different STD’s.” Using condoms during sexual activities is the safest way of protecting yourself from any possible STD’s spreading. The latex condoms provide protection from the reproductive organs directly making
As with many other diseases, prevention is key. It’s much easier to prevent STDs than to treat them. The only way to completely prevent STDs is to abstain from all types of sexual contact. However, if someone is going to have sex, the best way to reduce the chances of getting STDs are by using condoms.
In addition, unprotected sex is the result of many STDS and the cause of millions of deaths. 1 in 4 sexually active teens become infected with an STD every year.
