Today we searched the shipwreck, that we found and found many cool things. The ship had 6 cannon ports and we believe that the ship had two masts. Also we found this ship 4,363 feet below sea. In the ship we found musket parts, ceramic cups and dishes, clothing, and a toothbrush. These items were from all over the world. The items were from Britain, China, Mexico, and and Canada. After we found these items I was extremely ecstatic, because I did not think we would find things like that. Also the items gave us clues to what kind of ship this was. We believe that the ship was a government paid ship, that went around the world and made sure the sea was safe. Lastly, there were two other ships found nearby and by our findings in the first
On February 15th, 1898, at about 9:40 in the night, the USS Maine exploded in the Havana Harbor. It killed between 260 and 268 men, and it caused a major uproar or attention in the United States. Because it was only a few days after the public found out about the De Lome letter, many Americans, and newspapers especially, put the blame onto Spain. It would soon become a minor cause of the Spanish-American War. During the war, the chant “Remember the Maine!” was used because of this tragedy.
Archaeology is a continuously evolving field where there is a constant stream of new branches and excavation methods. Due to the influx of new technologies and innovations in recent decades, archaeologists have been able to excavate previously inaccessible areas. For example, new diving equipment and tools such as proton magnetometers, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and miniature submarines have allowed archaeologists to dive into the deep depths of the ocean. As a result, the branch of underwater archaeology was created to search for shipwrecks and other artifacts on the ocean floor. Underwater archaeology’s role has increased in recent years as it allows archaeologists to more accurately interpret the past by supplementing
Our world is full of mystery. There are countless unknown traces from the past all over the world and they are waiting to be solved and answered. Archaeology studies the ancient human past through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains. In fact, archaeology is the tool that decipher the clues that are found through its continuous development of excavation and methods. The advance of new technologies in recent decades enable archaeologists to excavate previously unapproachable areas, such as underwater. The underwater archaeology is developed in order to discover the lost shipwrecks and various
Thomas Moran is known for his oil paintings of the natural world. He captures nature at the moment in which he sees it; this may, in turn, be serene but also show the dramatic and violent natures of his momentary surroundings. In the compositions chosen he illustrates, as the title infers, a vessel caught in the turbulent, tumultuous sea. As he captured this image, he kept in mind the destructive nature of water also the constructive nature of water. Water has the ability to enable cultures to thrive and to barely survive. Water was the main source transportation of goods, ideas and communication in prehistoric times. In his composition, Moran displays the solid and life-depending aspect of water as
A starship is on its way to populate the New World, because Earth was destroyed by a colossal catastrophe. The ship originally could sustain thirteen colonists; unfortunately, the ship was damaged and now can only sustain five colonists of the thirteen. The colonists who should stay of the ship and survive, need to be the colonists with the most importance and essential experience for traveling to a New World. Even though the New World could provide a variety of different outcomes, the colonists who should survive need to be the ones who would provide the most safety precautions in certain situations.
In the summer of 1982, a local Turkish sponge diver named Mehmed Cakir set out on a normal morning dive. In the Bay of Antalya in the Mediterranean Sea near the city of Kas, the diver took a boat not too far off shore. During his dive, he found what he described as “metal biscuits with ears” and reported them to the Institute of Nautical Archaeology in Kas. The INA then sent a team to the shoreline to discover what would end up being the Uluburun, the oldest shipwreck ever excavated.
In 2004, an unidentified shipwrecked vessel was found off the coast of Alabama. The wreck was discovered by the company Fathom Exploration, L.L.C., who then claimed possession of the ship. The company further intended to salvage what it could from the remains, and hoped to prevent others from salvaging in the same area. The identity of the ship was initially unknown, though it was believed to either be the Amstel, a British vessel, or the Robert H. Dixey, a clipper ship. Because of this, several parties filed claims over the area in question: those who claimed to have a connection to the Dixey, and Fathom Exploration, LLC over the Amstel, leading to the case titled Fathom Exploration, L.L.C.,Plaintiff, v. the Unidentified Shipwrecked Vessel or Vessels that was decided in 2012. The ship was determined not to be the Dixey; therefore, those who had placed claims of ownership under its name did not have a valid platform to argue upon. However, Fathom still could not assure its ownership of the wrecked vessel; based on the Abandoned Shipwreck Act of 1987, if evidence existed that the ship had been abandoned when it sank into submerged waters of the United States, then the United States would hold title to the shipwreck. Ultimately, the decision of the Court stated the “plaintiff [was] ordered to continue diligently performing the archival research and diving activities”(CITE). This particular case provides insight into how to handle situations where the identity of a shipwrecked
The forty-five known wrecks span from around 525 BC to 1850 AD. Inside many of the cargo holds, there were clay vessels that transported goods to areas of Italy, North Africa, Egypt, and other areas. The team plan on continuing the exploration until 2018.
The discovery of a 3,000-year-old shipwreck, complete with riches and raw materials. The trading vessel was carrying an extremely valuable cargo of tin and hundreds of copper ingots from the Continent when it sank. Archaeologists have described the vessel, which is thought to date back to around 900BC, as being a "bulk carrier" of its age. The copper and tin would have been used for making bronze not only weapons, but also tools, jewelry, ornaments and other items. Archaeologists believe the copper and possibly the tin was being imported into
Dear diary, today I'm on my way to the new world and I'm carrying a compass and map that will come in handy. This ship is enormous, a carracks, and is captained by Christoper Columbus and it's called Santa Maria with two smaller ships called Pinta and Nina. There are about 50 people on the ship with me. Apparently they are handling the trip well, most of them are excited to discover new objects. So far there are no Problems , everyone is getting along with each other. the weather is pleasant the past days . right now I feel a bit depressed because I absolutely miss my family, other then that it's going
Shipwreck at the Bottom of the Worldvividly recreates one of the most extraordinary adventure stories in history. In August 1914, Ernest Shackleton and 27 men sailed from England in an attempt to become the first team of explorers to cross the Antarctic continent from one side to the other. Five months later and still 100 miles from land, their ship,Endurance, became trapped. The expedition survived an Antarctic winter in the icebound ship, then, afterEndurancesank, five months camped on the ice followed by a perilous boat journey through storms and icebergs to remote and unvisited Elephnat Island, 600 miles from Cape Horn. From there, their only hope was for someone to fetch help. In a dramatic climax to this amazing survival story, Shackleton
On July 2013 My group and I will be able to get a hold of the artifacts we had found on the shipwrecks, this discovery was located in the gulf of Mexico. When we discovered the shipwreck location, which was down in the gulf, about 4363 feet down was where the three beautiful vessels were lying. But the amazing part of it all was that we found one ship first and then we ended up finding two others, we called the three shipwreck the Monterrey shipwreck. As well, the site was left undisturbed most likely the ships date back from the 19th century, which blew our minds as what Fritz Hanselmann had told the reporters "What you're going to see and hear, I hope will blow your mind, Because it has ours" we are so excited to share this discovery with

In the gulf of mexico me and my team have found three different ships. We had gotten some news about only the first ship so we didn't know there was more ships. Two of the three ships that we found have the same sort of artifacts inside . two of the ships we believe had sunken around the same time and some of us think that the ships were privateers.
When someone thinks of problems plaguing the world, nuclear energy is not the first thing that comes to peoples minds these days.[1]Nuclear power was once deemed the new energy of the future.[2]However, numerous nuclear power plant accidents around the world put a damper on that notion. The United States considers itself one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, but 103 nuclear reactors currently operating within her borders, one was bound to fail sometime or another.[3]
