These declarations or judgments about Jews are the manner by which overviews are made. Stereotypes are made rationally around a certain sort of people, being assembled as all the same. At the same time stereotyping expressions are simply what every individual see other people as. This generalization and judgment, about all Jewish individuals molded the "Last arrangement", which Nazi’s made that they were to remove the Jews from the Holocaust. Lamed Shapiro’s “The Cross” tells the story, in vivid and disturbing detail, of a Russian Jewish man who is attacked in a pogrom, alongside his estranged mother, and is branded on the forehead with a cross by his attacker. Blume Lempel’s “Images on a Blank Canvas” tells another story, in equally vivid and disturbing detail, of a woman mourning the death of her friend, a prostitute who committed suicide. In these two stories, there is one striking similarity: The survivor is portrayed by the non-survivor. In “The Cross,” the Russian Jew is depicted by his mother as the brutally murdered non-survivor of a pogrom. In “Images on a Blank Canvas,” Blume Lempel, the survivor, is depicted by her fallen friend Zosye. Through the depictions of survivors by non-survivors, Shapiro and Lempel are able to unpack the trauma stemming from a pogrom and a suicide and its effects on the survivors.

“Life is a matter of perspective. It can be amazing or wonderful, or it can be depressing and worthless” (Gray, n. d.). In this quote Stephen Gray (n.d.) dials in on the psychological view on life. Furthermore, he details on how in the novel Night (g, 2006, p. 94) and in the movie “Life is Beautiful” (2000), the Holocaust was experienced both similarly and differently through the father/son relationship, the tone of the piece, and experiences of the Jewish prisoners. Callie Quinn is the main character in the book “Where the Stars Still Shine.” In the beginning of the book Callie is very insecure, lonely, and sad. Living with her mom traveling from place to place hiding from the police causes Callie to feel insecure and scared. Since the publishing of the comic book MAUS, there has been a broad debate not only from the survivors of the Holocaust but within the Jewish community pertaining to the appropriateness and representational meaning of the Holocaust in the modern literature. Many people who participate in the discussions or read the book have perceived the comic fashioning of the book as trivial, hence making the book appear as mocking, derogatory and comedic. Nevertheless, this is not the real purpose for the format employed by Art Spiegelman. The comic representation plays a critical role in ensuring that the message is at home. This paper seeks to clarify on the issues that have been raised against the comic representation of the book.

‘Night’ and ‘Life is beautiful’ are two different texts that analyses a wide variety of different themes for multiple reasons, the main themes that are explored in most importance for comparison and contrast are that of Survival, Camps and Fathers. The two texts are similar ways of explaining how life was like in the holocaust, where Night was an experience of being sent to the German concentrations camps, this book tells us his story from being setting up the ghettoes until the end of the holocaust, and Life Is Beautiful was based on the holocaust in a funny version so viewers were getting an enjoyable way of understanding some of the things that occurred in this time period of history.

Being Jewish during the Holocaust must be terrifying. Overcoming all odds of being put into a ghetto guarded by a Gestapo and being transferred into a concentration camp to be put into intense labor is pure luck, but not for Vladek Spiegelman. In Art Spiegelman’s Graphic Novel Maus, a comic book not only about Vladek's first-hand experience through the Holocaust but also a relationship of a father and son. This relationship is an important narrative all through Maus, and this influences the feeling of guilt. Two different kinds of guilt are presented in this book: a familial guilt, and the survivor's guilt.

In the mystery novel, The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson, the author illustrates the idea that people get second chances and consequences for those who do not utilize it well. When the murderer, the Ripper, gets a second chance at life, he makes poor choices. Johnson demonstrates this by adding the quote, “Then shall the slayer return, and come unto his city, and unto his own house, unto the city whence he fled. -Joshua 20:6” (Johnson 5). In the Bible, during this passage, God asks Joshua to create an asylum for those who have accidentally murdered someone. The Holocaust was a disturbing unique element of European history; it refers to the period from 30th January 1933 when Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany to 5th May 1945 when the Second World War officially ended. “The Nazis, who came into power believed that Germans were “racially superior” and that the Jews, deemed “inferior,” were an alien threat to the so-called German racial community.” The Holocaust was responsible for murdering six million of the Jewish residence in Europe, the deaths represented two-thirds of the European Jewish population; the Jewish public was the Nazi regime’s primary target and the regime sought to wipe out the entire Jewish populace. The Nazi’s claimed that the Jews corrupted Germany and illustrated Jews as evil, Nazi’s believe that they could justify their treatment of Jews based on their racial theories. The Jewish inhabitants of Germany were murdered with the cruelest methods; they suffered from forced labor, starvation, disease, mass shootings, and the most notorious was gassing. Men and women experienced related traumas, while being held imprisoned in the concentration camps and or death camps; however, women endured incomparable circumstances that we cannot expect men to apprehend.

The “undesirables” where not untouchable but the perpetrators would not forget them, nor would they “pass over” them. They gave attention to them because they were threatened by them. The speaker is noting the cruelty of the officers in that when they couldn't get to them (or make them leave the country) they attacked and killed the Jews, including helpless children. Then there is the line “I have made an elegy for myself this is true.” The speaker could have been a victim who survived the Holocaust, or someone who relates closely with it, who is certain that he would have been subject to the same fate in a death camp.
