1. The section that I remember most clearly was section 9 Short-Time Writing: Use your Higher Brain. Dividing the role that our brain plays through the articles “Lower’ and “Higher” brain made a straightforward distinction to the way we process information under pressure. Facing timed essays or deadlines is one of the struggles I face while writing, making the foolish mistake to write as much as I can at a given time with no clear direction. Reid discussed the importance of knowing what to write before jumping ahead aimlessly. The lower brain is mistakenly used the moment you finished reading the question and dive straight into writing without deciphering the information or mapping out crucial information. The Higher brain should be properly
Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own
When I was reading Writing is Easy by Steve Martin, I was thinking if writing was actually that easy. Then I finished the article and realized that writing will never be easy. Mr. Martin examples on how to make writing easier make no sense. His tip to getting over writers block gets the writer nowhere. He says “got to an already published novel and find a sentence that you absolutely adore. Copy it down into your manuscript” (Martin). What he is saying is plagiarism. If I was to use this method to overcome writer block I would be thrown out of college. I still believe that writer block is real because even the greatest authors struggle with writers block.
“Yes I am dad.” Kevin screaming at the top of his lungs,” Mr.Cromwell needs to go!” While Howie and Kevin argued ,Cromwell was over there eating Kevin’s breakfast, waffles. It was too late, Howie and Kevin turned around ,the waffles were gone.Kevin and Howie went straight over to doggy daycare. Cromwell had stayed 1 hour knowing he wanted to leave.
I look out the window above the sink as my mom replies. "Ok, sounds fine, bring a swimsuit, and that light purple sweater for night time, and hiking boots and old sneakers, and LOTS of socks, and-" I listen to her as I search out the window for nothing in particular, until I see a movement in the window of Camden's house on the first floor. I stare at it as my mom drones on, and Camden emerges from behind the curtain and waves creepily.
I heard all the groups talking at once all the counselors telling girls what to do. “ Anya come on’’ Evelyn told me in a little bit of a harsh way “what ?” I asked “were getting life jackets” explained Evelyn. Me and Evelyn were doing the tippy test with the canoes. We were at camp newaygo, were us and two of are other friend were doing a week long sleep away camp and one of the thing that me and Evelyn did was going canoeing and today was our last day, and we were doing the tippy test were you practice what would happen when you fall in the water. “Anya” said Evelyn now sounding mad. “Oh ya sorry I was spacing out” I explained as I tried to hide my embarrassment.
After reading chapter 6, (p198-218) of Bogdan, R. & Biklen, S. K., it suggests that, whatever I am writing, I need to know how to choose the right words, construct all the sentences, and organize to see that end of my writing it reflects my real intentions. Also, in the writing the process should have, The beginning tells what you will do in the paper, it lays out the contents, the middle section develops, argues, and presents your findings, and the conclusion may summarize what you have said (Bogdan &
Reading and writing are two very important skills. These skills allow students to be successful, life long learners. Along with many other skills, one place students learn how to read and write is school. As an educator it is my job to ensure that students learn these essential skills, so that they can be successful, life long learners. It is important to know that writing-to-learn is different from learning-to- write. Writing-to-learn is different as the final product is not a piece that has undergone several edits (Knipper & Duggan, 2006). Writing-to-learn is the short informal pieces of writing that can be used in a lesson for students to reflect on subject matter and explore their own learning (Colorado State University, 2015). Where
If you were to type in “writing is…” into a search bar, the first suggestion that would pop up would be “writing is hard.” In many ways it can be, writing is an outlet to put all your personal thoughts and experiences onto a paper for all to see and criticize is nerve- racking. For any person writing can be a struggle to piece together their thoughts into coherency, but it is all part of the bigger process. Writing can help you convey what you truly believe and let your creativity run free through putting a part of yourself into your work. It is a way to let out any powerful emotions about something that is happening in your life in a healthy, almost therapeutic way. This idea of revealing your true self for your work can be seen in Leon Uris’s quote that states,” You can lie to your wife or your boss but you cannot lie to your typewriter sooner or later you must reveal your true self in your pages.” The author uses the typewriter as a metaphor for an object you can confide in and not lie to much like a diary.

So if you’re riding a strapping 4 or 5-year-old, keep in mind that his skeleton isn’t fully mature yet! He might not grow visibly bigger, but his body is still developing into its adult form and that may continue until he’s past his 6th birthday. So be careful not to yank his neck or slam on his back. Horses whose backs are still fusing are more vulnerable to back injuries and structural damage from riding.
Understanding the writing assignment before I start can be difficult, on the other hand, as I write, I find myself understanding and changing what I have written. At times, my paper becomes unorganized and this is frustrating for me and I will labor to reorganize my assignment. Organizing my papers using the writing process from The College Writer will be a fruitful discipline to practice during this writing course.
(Gets out of bed, sits on bed) *deep sigh* Thoughts. Thoughts have been flying sharply through my head like an arrow. Thoughts have made me insomniac ever since I fled Scotland. I am living a restless nightmare. With my beloved father murdered, what am I to do? Indeed, he had educated me with the agendas to become a great king. But I am still in my youth, an adolescent who is not yet suitable to rule a great kingdom! I’m not ready…….. Will I ever be ready?
“Now, I got to go, but I’ll contact you just as soon as I know something. In the meantime is there anywhere you could go? I don’t like the thought of you home alone with all of this going on. Can your sister come over to stay with you for a while?”
“It most certainly is not,” retorted Phillie. “Freddie is that terrible man from those awful movies made years ago. The man who would attack children in their sleep.”
The writing process was a little difficult. Brainstorming a list of possible thesis options was the biggest challenge for me. For me most of the time the benefits of brainstorming outweighed the creative output. I found myself getting frustrated looking for times in my life when I struggled to read and write. For the most part remembering how I conquered the challenges was very hard to recall. Though I found out what I was going to write about, I still haven’t stated my thesis on the paper.
