If you were to type in “writing is…” into a search bar, the first suggestion that would pop up would be “writing is hard.” In many ways it can be, writing is an outlet to put all your personal thoughts and experiences onto a paper for all to see and criticize is nerve- racking. For any person writing can be a struggle to piece together their thoughts into coherency, but it is all part of the bigger process. Writing can help you convey what you truly believe and let your creativity run free through putting a part of yourself into your work. It is a way to let out any powerful emotions about something that is happening in your life in a healthy, almost therapeutic way. This idea of revealing your true self for your work can be seen in Leon Uris’s quote that states,” You can lie to your wife or your boss but you cannot lie to your typewriter sooner or later you must reveal your true self in your pages.” The author uses the typewriter as a metaphor for an object you can confide in and not lie to much like a diary. …show more content…
It is essentially a way to reveal the softness of your character without fully taken off your armor. Another quote that connects to the struggle of conveying one's innermost thoughts onto paper is said by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway's quote proclaims “I write with my blood,” which means the author wrote the work with their entire heart and mind to convey their thoughts into words. Blood is such an integral, vital part of one's body, in turn when an author writes it contains a part of them in that work. This gives an effect of it being alive, even if the author itself is no longer living and breathing. The significance of writing with your blood gives the work more meaning than something that is based off the ideas of others rather than
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn’t know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It’s a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences.
Scores of composition instructors agree that writing should be taught as a recursive process, rather than a liner process, and they also agree that most writers employ certain writing strategies as they produce drafts. Sandra Perl’s article, Understanding Composing” shares these beliefs because she states: “writing does appear to be recursive, yet the parts that recur seem to vary from writer to writer and from topic to topic” (142). Perl explains that throughout the writing process, writers employ a “forward-moving action that exists by virtue of
Writing acts as a vessel that allows one to express themselves in their own way. When one writes of personal accounts, they allow their heart and soul come out. They feel as though they have the ability to feel and say anything. Hopefully one may find personal satisfaction in their ability to communicate clearly and effectively using the written word.
Writing isn’t for everyone, yet the number of people writing in this exact moment is pretty monstrous if you google it. Writing has basically been there for me since I was born, it was there when they wrote my birth certificate, when i was learning how to write my name, when i wrote my first essay, taking the STAAR tests, practicing for the AP test, to my first writing assignment for college. People are gifted with creating such rich, breathtaking, emotional, and deep work that last for generations and generations (not me), but writing has not always been a friend to me. The process of writing is not just write and your done, no you need to take time and let your ideas gush out (duh you already knew that) but also to edit and revise to make those final drafts. Writing can be a huge pain in the buttocks (ass), but it isn 't that bad. Here are some of my issues and strengths about writing and my take on it.
The repetitive lull of the waves marking the ordinary days in your life, while the unpredictable nature of the tides and currents correlate to the earth shattering moments you experience. Writing is the expression of thought and ideas that have been stored on a tangible object. Writing allows us to share our ideas not only to the intended audience but, with the world. Although many claim humans all write for communication, I believe that writing is the connection between one’s mind and soul to their willingness to open up to the world.
Writing is a way to express our feeling and thoughts, and it helps us to convey memorable memories in our life on to paper. For most people writing is meditation, but for me writing gives me peace of mind and writing is stress relief. I like to share some marvelous facts about writing, and how it affected me as a writer. Writing can offer many rewardss when practiced regularly. Writing brings sense of peace and it can help better one’s memory.
The main thing that I feel that I need to improve on as a writer is being able convey my thoughts properly when putting the down on paper. This to me seems to be one of the most important things when it comes to writing. I feel that the reader must know exactly what it is I am thinking or what the point is that I am trying to get across to them when I write something. If they are not picking up on what it is I am trying to convey to them, then I think that I am, in a sense, failing as a writer. On the other hand, when someone can pick up on exactly what it is I am trying to tell them in a piece of my work, then I feel that I have succeeded in my assignment or whatever the task at hand is at that time. In my honest opinion, making sure the reader
“You might not write well every day, but you can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page” (Jodi Picoult, N.D.). Quote, Question and Connection all bring the writer to think deeper into the subject their writing about, one must read the content but from the content they must derive a thought, an opinion, and a response from what they read and all must be composed on paper. The paper is the piece that blends all together into what the papers about, without the writing you would merely have a thought or idea floating within your head the writing is what helps one to express themselves and helps them acquire the skills needed to put forth the whole message of what they want or need to say.
Writing plays an paramount role in my life because it is a great way to express my feelings. My life without writing is like sailing without compass. I indulge in writing not only because I can share my perception with others but also can generate new ideas. Also, I have my own way to formulate a writing, and both story writing and research writing are two of my favorites. I face many difficulties in writing but I have learnt how to work with them.
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
Akira returned to his bedroom to prepare to leave, he would have to change his outfit into something appropriate and Zeriya would’ve surely provided that. But as he steps into his room and closes the door a hard punch collides with his upper arm. (-- removed HTML --)

One of language skills that need to be mastered by learners of English in EFL context is writing. The teaching of writing, in general, aims at developing students’ ability to utilize their knowledge effectively in certain text. However, learning to write in English is not easy for non-native speakers of English because L1 writing is different from L2 writing. Silva (1993, p. 669) mentions that “L2 writing is strategically, rhetorically, and linguistically different in important ways from L1 writing.” In addition, Hyland (2003, p. 31) lists a number of issues related to differences between L1 and L2 as follows:
