Internet addiction has become a huge problem in today’s society. In Greg Beato’s article, he discusses the growing phenomena of internet addiction disorder. The writer explains that more and more people are becoming addicted to the internet. For example, he tells of a teenager in Ohio, who shot and killed his mom and injured his dad because they took away his Xbox. He tells how it is stated that five to ten percent of the 52 million internet users were addicted. The author is telling us that the internet has become very addictive in our everyday society.
“Up to 90% of young adults in major East Asian countries, including China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and South Korea, are nearsighted” (Park par. 3). The main reason that causes this phenomenon is that the East Asian students are overusing technology such as smart phones, Ipads, and computers. These technologies devices are the friends that they spend most time with. Playing video games and watching TV for over two hours each day can really hurt the teenagers’ eyes. However, bad eyesight is not the only impact that technology gives us. Technology is also shortening the time we spend on reading paperback books, obstructing us from gaining knowledge, creating communication problems among teenagers, and weakening our problem solving skills. These impacts can each cause the teenagers and even adults serious problem if they are not aware of them.
The idea behind the internet was to revolutionize society and with over 3 billion individuals using it, it clearly succeeded (ITU, n.d.). However, individuals started coming online to check their email, watch a video, visit Facebook, or play an online game as a habit, may easily become addicted to these behaviors over time. According to the DSM-V, internet addiction applies to individuals who use the internet excessively, often without realizing how much time has passed, how much more they are using the internet and neglecting their basic needs, as well as, ignoring any negative impacts said internet use has caused (dsm). When not using the internet, the individual may feel withdrawal, angry, tense, and/or depressed; in addition, they may feel the need to have a better computer and more software, which is an internet-addicted individual’s form of tolerance (dsm). Time of use per day in those addicted to the internet is nearly double the time those who are not addicted spend online (Lee,
In the article, “Caught in the Web: More People Say Heavy Internet Use is Disrupting Their Lives, and Medical Experts are Paying Attention” by January W. At the same time, many people use internet excessively, and do not realize that, they might get further from the outside world. The Internet has negative and positive impacts, it depends how we will make use of it; the negative effects can be like a computer virus, internet theft, pornography, and dating sites, however the internet can be used for good purposes. Internet helps people to communicate and be connected with everyone all around the world by mail, Skype, Facebook, Google, twitter, and other social network apps and web sites; I personally believe technology benefits everyone and we are depending on this platform to better our lives in a positive way.
The internet has been a big deal in everyone's lives lately, but is it really helping us or hurting us? Even though the internet is said to change your way of thinking and maybe even rewire your brain, the internet also allows you to become more social in your daily life, it can affect how your daily life functions compared to past generations, and it changes the way of the business industry.
In order to answer this crucial question it is good to point to the fact that Smartphone 's and internet are not good or bad. How it is used and who it is used with is the major problem. The fact that it connects people with the world around them but is also a tool that closes people off and affects the way they interact with the people around them and the society at large.
My generation uses the internet every day either to find information or for recreation. However, the internet is a double edged sword. It can be used for good where you can learn a lot of new stuff or it can be used for bad. For instance, one can just play and waste his/her time. I, myself, use this technology to improve my senses and I also believe that everyone does but we just don’t notice.
Is Internet good or bad? This is a question that people had always been asking. Internet has brought convenience to our society but also brought some problems, two resent articles have showed opposite opinion about the Internet.
Using the internet is not good for students; because the internet is too interesting, so it makes students to spend many hours for using the internet instead of studying; because internet use can damage students brain; because the internet can cause some kinds of mental disorders.
The Internet is a technology that has negative impacts on our daily lives. It has changed aspects of our life for the last 50 years, and it has demonstrated the considerable influence on people’s lives. Almost 3.2 billion people in the world use the internet. The Internet has gained acceptance across the globe, and it has also become a reason behind the critical changes in the modern society. Some of the changes are social isolation, health disorder, lack of privacy and internet addiction.
The effects of the internet on me and this society have been rapidly changing. Did you know that approximately 3.2 billion people use the internet, about 200 billion emails and 3 million google searches would have to wait if the internet was turned off for one day. Let me tell you about something that happened when i was little, it might be off topic a little but when i was little i was born backwards, meaning i came out legs first. My hips were out of place and until i was about 2. My dad is always on the internet and loved taking pictures of his “Little princess”, the pictures can still be found on facebook along with a lot of other things from my family memories. That was when i started wanting to get on the internet, i asked for a facebook and they said no, being a rebel i made one anyways just to play the games on it. The internet can have positive and negative things about it for younger and older people, for example the internet engines are one of the best information givers out there, they bring almost everything and anything to a lot of internet users that lange from all over the world. The internet can provide ways to communicate with family and friends from a long distance, and even meet new people. Bad things about it is people sharing and storing illegal information on the internet, much like the dark web. The addiction to the internet and the online network can be disturbing a person's way of living and professional activity.
Currently, people utilize the internet frequently a lot of type of internet addiction. Some youngsters, however, are addicted to the internet. They spend more time playing online games and watching TV shows on the internet, which means they stop going outside with their friends and even if stop going to school. Internet should benefit people. But a number of people are controlled by internet. In other words, internet addiction will influence people in some negative ways in terms of health, personality and socialization.
The internet is one of the greatest creations that humans have come up with. It has helped many people with finding information and it’s much quicker than having to go to a library. The internet has also provided us with the ability to interact with others who do not leave near us by using apps like Skype, Whatsapp, Messenger, Facetime, and we can even play games with people in other countries on gaming devices such as the Xbox and PS4. The internet is constantly being improved and is adding new features that attract more people to it every day. Unfortunately there are also negative issues associated with the internet and its effects on human relationships and societal relationships. Studies have shown that people have become addicted to the internet, apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter have all given people the feeling they must be always connected to their devices. As a result of this addiction to the internet, humans are suffering from isolationism. Instead of calling someone on the telephone or having a face to face conversation with someone, some would rather send a text or email. So, has the internet had a more positive or negative affect on human and societal relationships? It seems there are many more negative effects on human and societal relationships; it has resulted in internet addiction, isolationism and depression.
