Should same-sex marriage be legalized in Hong Kong?
In recent years, more homosexual people have come out to disclose their sexual orientation. Gays and lesbians may even feel pride and have higher self-esteem instead of having shame. People in Hong Kong generally are more open-minded now. There is no legal recognition of same-sex marriage in Hong Kong. In many countries or regions, the legalization of same-sex marriage is already implemented. Therefore, some may say that same-sex marriage should be accepted and allowed as it is the universal human rights of homosexual people. However, this paper argues that although human rights should be protected, homosexual people are actually a minority group in Hong Kong. Generally, Hong Kong

Only the minority is eager to battle with the legalization, but the protection of religious groups may be lowered in the future. Also, our society accept homosexual people around us, but just do not encourage gay marriage, general public is still concerning about the respect of homosexual people. If the legalization of same-sex marriage is implemented, the controversy will become stronger. In 2006, homosexual people asked to revise the regulation of domestic violence in same-sex marriage in Hong Kong (Stanton, 2007, p.16). In the short run, it is not appropriate to legalize the same-sex marriage and simultaneously, it is harmful to our society and it will lead to the problem of social instability, as still the majority still does not accept same-sex marriage.
Allowing same-sex marriage also means whether procreational autonomy should be accepted among homosexual people. However, the acceptance of procreation in homosexuals is still in doubts. According to Joe Volpe, marriage is ‘the one between a man and a woman that has two obvious goals: mutual support and procreation of children’ (Volpe, 2003). Procreation, especially in a Chinese society, is an important motivation of getting married and an indispensible family value. Biologically, the latest technology assisting people give birth to children, is only available
Homosexual marriage is one of the old but controversial issues around the world. Compared to the past, it seems to become a more open debate among people. At the same time, people seem to be more swayable than before, but towards the gay marriage, different voices have still been hovering in the air. Gay people and their supporters have been striving for their rights to get married legally, while others who against gay marriage have never stopped deterring it.
The Supreme Court legalized Same Sex Marriage on June 26, 2015. Same Sex Marriage is all the homosexual people in United States now can legally marry. Homosexual people has hard time with their family, people who didn't come out not dare to tell their family, so they will find some who is hetersexual and marry without telling the truth. Once hetersexual person find out about it or homosexual person sick to live with it , they will be divorce. The article “ 10 reasons why Gay Marriage should be legalized” the article stated “More than 50% of married couples in America get divorced. Allowing gays the opportunity to get married will increase marriage rates because less couples will get divorced due to incompatibility or infertility.” We can see from the evidence that half of people in America get divorced. Once they passed the Same Sex Marriage Law, the situation will become better also the percentage of getting divorced would be decrese. American people rejoice with wild excitement not only because this, it also prove that human has improved. To homesexual people is accomplishment of equal rights. Gay rights and marriage equality has always been a major issue. Not only in the United States, but all throughout various cultures in the world. One of the main reasons why it is not widely accepted is due to religious or cultural reasons. Thankfully, more people have become more accepting of it and keeping an open mind about it. As of June 26th, 2015, gay marriage has has finally been legalized in all 50 states. However, there are still people who do not agree with it and still try to vote against it. Some Americans even want laws made to ban same-sex marriage and relations again. Although the legalization of same-sex marriage has been accomplished, most people continue to fight against those who still discriminate against the LGBT community.
Gay marriage has been one of the most common topic under discussion, arguments and quarrels since couple of years in almost every nation of the world. Looking deep down to the region of United States, same-sex marriage or gay marriage has not been legalized and documented in most of its jurisdictions. However, it is prudent to note that with the beginning of the twenty first century, only a few of US states have legally recognized the gay marriage through court verdicts and legislative proceedings and have lawfully allowed the gay people to get into a relationship (Wolfson 2004).
There are over 105 million households in the United States today and out of those households, there are over 1.2 million gay people living with same-sex partners (“Census on Gays in America”). This makes the proposed legalization of same-sex marriage one of the most significant issues in contemporary America. It is presently one of the most discussed reforms in law reviews and the American court systems. If legalized, it could be one of the most revolutionary policy decisions in the history of America, along with women’s rights, interracial marriage, and slavery. There are many people who are opposed and feel it is morally and ethically wrong and others who feel that same-sex marriages are acceptable. Prior to
There are many reasons that individuals think that same-sex marriage will destroy the traditional way of marriage. One of the main points that are brought up is the person’s spiritualty. Each person in society has their own individual beliefs; some believe the same-sex marriage is incompatible with their views and since the government made the decision it is forces the person to disregard their own beliefs and accept it as their own. This is false, even though it is the law you don’t have to think its right and accept it as true, mentally. Though they do have to follow the law in the actual world, they don’t have to agree with it’s meaning and support it. There for people can keep their pre-conceived notion of the traditional way of marriage and have anybody be able to marry as the law. Another point that individuals bring up in the relation to
Same sex marriage is one of the most controversial trends that appear in the world today. In today’s society most of us are taught that a marriage should be a
Over the past several years the homosexual community has made great strides in attempting to justify their right to legally join in matrimony. Society as a whole has come a long way in becoming more tolerant and acknowledging of same sex partners and their choices to form families. Given our first amendment right to freedom of speech, there are plenty of sentiments regarding whether or not laws should be ratified permitting these male or female partners to have the legal right to marry. There are numerous of current trends that provide absolute support to the homosexual community with hopes of increasing the level of tolerance. In addition, the great economic advantages that have come about from same-sex marriages in supporting states, has
From the philosophical points of Kantianism, Utilitarianism, and Virtue Ethics on same-sex marriage, there are good reasons which are relevant to good will, duty, the principle of utility, and eudaimonia to support same-sex marriage. Although the Supreme Court has ruled that the Constitution places the right to same-sex marriage, people who stick to conservative position on same-sex relationships believe that a same-sex relationship violates moral and religious beliefs. Especially, religious objectors on same-sex marriage are a highly controversial topic because people who believe on religious grounds that define a marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman to pursue traditional family values. However, everything must change. The powerful social movements have accelerated the same-sex marriage issue in regard to the fundamental rights and the social justice. The social change involves inevitable consequences of the issue; so, the Supreme Court’s decision on same-sex marriage has a validation. Therefore, Homosexual people should be entitled to federal marriage rights and
People need to change with future so; law for gay marriages should be changed because it is not causing any serious problem to anybody. In my opinion gay marriages should be legalized because they are also human like us and they have the right to live by their own and it is important because even like everybody I would like to live in a country that allows everybody equal rights. At the end I want to say that same sex marriage does not harm the society. People fall in love with individuals, not with a sex. Gender need not be a significant factor in our choice, although for some of us it may
The concept of gay or same sex marriage is controversial. There are a number of countries where homosexual couples are allowed to marry with their relationship gaining the same recognition as heterosexual couples; countries who allow gay marriage include Sweden, Spain, Canada, Iceland and Argentina. In the US nine states, plus Washington DC provide for gay marriages (FTM, 2012). It would appear that there is a gradual movement towards acceptance of gay marriage, but with only a minatory of people living in areas where gay marriage is accepted there is still a great deal of resistance, with a restatement of arguments against gay marriage, but when examining those arguments many are flawed and reflect fears rather than fact.
Nowadays, with the social media, people realize that there is another world of society where there are gay, homosexual, lesbians, trans and intersex people. They live like normal people but inside them there are souls, real personalities and real ‘person’. Gay marriage is now getting recognized by the society, the fact is that some countries have stepped up and support for gay marriage such as USA, Australia and some other Asian countries. Unfortunately, they have to face what other people say about them as in they are not normal and wrong when it comes to marriage. In this essay, it will outline two sides of the argument of the gay marriage should be legalized.
Since the very beginning there has been discrimination, corruption, and over all rebellion. People have always fought for their beliefs, one way or another. A widely-spread argument now is the question if gay marriage should become legal. This question has been becoming more public throughout the years. People have had conflicting thoughts about this topic whether gays should be allowed to marry or not. On June 26th, 2015, gay marriage was ruled to have rights that would be protected by the US Constitution commitments of liberty and equality. Since then, gay marriage was legalized in all states, however, is still and controversial issue because people believe that same-sex couples should not have the same rights as opposite-sex couples.

The same-sex marriage issue has ignited worldwide. Joseph Chamie- the previous director- and Barry Mirkin-the previous Population Policy Section Chief- of the UN’s Population Division aim to present up-to-date statistics and information on the same-sex marriage debate in “Same-Sex Marriage: A New Social Phenomenon.” They mention that same-sex marriage is a “recent phenomenon” that will possibly stick around for years in many countries because societal, religious, and legislative controversies continually revamp its debate (544). The issue is labeled “recent” because “…SSM [same-sex marriage] did not exist until the twenty-first century when an increasing number of countries began permitting same-sex
