Should School Sports Be Banned In Schools

School sports have been around for years, but many people have debated if they’re acceptable for districts. According to multiple studies, scholars who participate in athletics typically get low grades and miss classes throughout the year. Therefore, schools should ban sports to save money, help more students pass classes, and allow plenty of time for them to complete homework and projects. Although after school sports are appealing, they can take up a majority of district funds. According to a 2012 study by Amanda Ripley, Superintendent Ernest Singleton shut down all sports to save $150,000 per year after being threatened by the state of Texas (11). In addition, snacks sold at a game rarely make up for the costs when students, teachers, and coaches travel for games, including when they get meals and stay in hotels along the way (Ripley 11). Therefore, they should cancel sports to prevent having to shut down schools due to low funds. This is important for students who wish to have a better education and for schools that wish to include more classes for those who need extra help. In addition, after the school had canceled sports, Nathan, a former Premont quarterback stated,”There was all this extra time, you never got behind on your work,” (Ripley 11).
