Should Travel Sports Be Necessary?

Many people are debating whether or not school sports should be removed due to the critical consequences they are having on young athletes academic, and social lives. Studies have proven that cutting sports from schools can improve students grades in a plethora of ways. Therefore, school sports should be taken away to prevent students from failing classes, save districts money, and allow children the study time they need.

When the author described travel teams they only spoke of how much pressure is put on the kids and how it consumes their lives and they speak of travel teams entirely in a negative way. I can understand how looking from a different perspective it can be considered negative but looking at it from actually being on travel team, I look at it differently. When a player goes for a travel team, they know what they are getting into and the work and the pressure it’s going to be but the players love the game because they are already at a higher level of that sport. One may believe children play sports just to have fun in their free time, but it also has a positive impact on them. ““Children’s participation in organized extracurricular activities has been associated with positive short-and-long-terms outcomes”” (Guèvremont, 2011). Therefore, extra-curricular activities should be mandatory in a student’s life because it helps them gain new skills, exercise and is a stress reliever.

One reason we should keep school sports is because it benefits the mind and body. For example, in part two of the article, “No! Sports Are More Important Than Ever” states, “According to a 2013 report from the institute of medicine, physically active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers, and score higher on tests.” This proves that sports benefit the mind. After school many kids go straight home to their phones; however, with sports, after school they go straight into a fun, healthy activity that benefits the mind and body.

The importance and benefits of school sports have been questioned recently, a current article has showed that both students and schools have improved as a result of limiting athletic programs. Therefore, schools should get rid of sports to cut big costs, eliminate distractions from students and staff, and improve student academic achievement.

For the past 50 years in America, schools have made it a tradition to play sports in schools. But schools have been crushing the future for their students because they allow sports in schools. While students and parents feel that sports in schools are appropriate and valuable, that is just simply not the case and schools have just gone too far. Schools should eliminate sports programs because sports programs put a financial burden on schools, getting rid of sports will increase in academics and students can get injured when playing sports.

Being active is a great thing especially for kids. Although the physical activity may release stress; It can cause distraction for the students. Therefore, districts should discard after school sports because, school communities will save truckloads of money, students would get more time to study, and they will be more focused on their class work.

Every year, thousands of kids move to the United States from all over the world. Something that constantly surprises them is, sports are a big deal in American schools. But some schools are taking away sports. Schools should get rid of sports.

Growing up in a rural community, I have noticed how sports have impacted the people of a community and unified the members of a team. Sports have become apart of everyday life for many Americans, and many high school kids, like myself, take part in the playing of a sport. However, sports have become much more complex. Along with practices, student-athletes are now required to dedicate many more hours of their day to sports, and many do not have enough time to do other activities such as homework. Also, sports have become increasingly dangerous, and more athletes are sustaining injuries such as concussions. In some American high schools, sports have become more important than academics. Knowing that students have huge workloads with hours of homework every night, schools should consider all their options to help their students succeed even if that means banning sports.

For a period people have debated whether or not to get rid of school sports. Students can get off track of learning when they're playing sports, districts realized they could save over 150,000 dollars in a year, and students have extra time to do homework and study. Therefore, schools should not have sports because kids can prevent distractions, schools could save a great deal of money, students can have more time to learn.

Which is more important, sports or education? In America, sports seem to be the winner. Athletes get paid about 53 million dollars a year, compared to the 58,170 dollars teachers get paid. Another way sports wins is that sports are now a huge part of school, but should they? Schools shouldn’t be in school because academic impact, financial impact, and family impact.

There is an ongoing debate about whether school sports should stay in or out of schools. If a school or a district cuts sports, they could save a abundance of money. Therefore, school sports should be terminated to save money to spend on other needed educational items, to improve academic grades, and get students better sleep.

When schools cut sports from their schedule, districts would agree that they have saved money after eliminating them. Amanda Ripley states in the article, “Should Your School Get Rid of School Sports?” that new bleachers can cost half a million dollars and maintaining a grass field can cost more than $20,000 a year (11). The article also talks about schools having to pay for transportation, meals, and hotels for long trips to games and tournaments (Ripley 11). If you add all the numbers, physical activities can cost up to $570,000 a year, including extra money spent for hospitality for long distance games, that’s a tremendous amount of money! This shows that schools are paying an immense amount for athletic programs.
