The fifth type of abuse is neglect, it is when the abuser is ignoring the child at all times, the abuser does not feed the child, give them clothes, or provide any needs to help the child survive day to day. The abuser could also make the child fend for themselves on everything. Signs of neglect are if the child wears the same clothes for many days, or only have a few to rotate through, if the child smells for many days or weeks, if the child is hungry, or if the child refuses to go home.

There are four types of abuse, physical, sexual, neglect and emotional. Each have different signs that they are happening and it is my job to read them signs and report them to a senior officer if I am concerned in anyway that a child showing them signs.
A type of child abuse is Physical abuse, this refers to a violent interaction with a child a parent's in which the parent inflicts bodily harm on to their child. Emotional abuse is abuse in which parents hurt their child’s feeling of rejection, abandonment, belittlement, name-calling, threatening, isolation or exploitation their child. Sexual abuse is when a child has exposed sex-related talk to sex-related actions that inflict some sort of harm on to a child. Neglect is another form of abuse where parents fail to care for their child’s basic needs, fail to provide a decent standard of living for their child and safety.
Psychological abuse also known as emotional abuse is when someone affects the emotional and social aspect of someone’s life. It is a pattern of behaviors by caregivers that interferes with cognitive, emotional, psychological, and social development. Rape – e.g. a male member of staff having sex with a Mental Health client (see Mental Health Act 1983)
The last kind of abuse is neglect. The indicators of neglect are any symptoms that may suggest that the child is not taken care of such as dirty or inadequate to age/weather clothing, developmental delays caused by lack of support, interest from the side of carers, repeating skin infections due to poor hygiene, untreated injuries, lack of regular immunizations or being constantly tired or absent/late at the nursery. (Queensland Government Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, 2011)The child will lack love and affection therefore can look for it when socializing with other people. On the other hand they may be aggressive and have anti-social behaviors as they are usually left on their own. When comes the time to go home, the children may not want to go out from the setting, the place they feel comfortable in.
Often times we are unaware of events that go on behind closed doors. Abuse (mental, physical, and sexual) can alter a child’s behavior, personality, and trust. Often times these children will be unwilling to participate in any activity or lesson. Not only do these traumatic events affect the child now, but it can leave lasting cognitive and behavioral problems. A child who has been abused “can be detected only through the emotional and behavioral abnormalities that it causes (G. Jacobi, 2010).”
During the study it has been found that victims that have suffered childhood abuse also have exposure to multiple types of abuse such as maltreatment and bullying. Also the effect depends on

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between a child who witnesses abuse in his/her home and the child’s development, physically, emotionally, and socially. Young children exposed to abusive environments are at risk of higher levels of emotional stress, which can impair their physical and social development.
Experiencing abuse can lead to many things; bruises or cuts, or even depression or anxiety. However, different kinds of abuse can have different effects. For example, a child who is a victim of physical abuse could show signs of having trouble at school, difficulty trusting others, and many more things. A victim of emotional abuse, though, might question their memory or feel shame or guilt. Although, all kinds of abuse can lead to things like depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
There are different types of child abuse and neglect including physical, emotional, sexual abuse, physical or emotional neglect. Other forms of child maltreatment include parental mentally illness, incarceration, substance dependence, parental separation or divorce, domestic violence (S7)
In other instances, the parent can confiscate the child’s belongings or force the children to strip down naked and be photographed as a form of punishment. Considering the types of abuse that these children experience, there are psychological effects that can affect their life as they get older. The effects of household abuse can extend outside the home and affect the child in their performance in society. “Children Exposed to Domestic Violence” states that children exposed to family violence can experience difficulties in paying attention and staying on task (Geffner 39). Abused children are prone to externalizing problems which causes children to act out. Externalizing problems include temper tantrums, impulsivity, hyperactivity, aggression, conflict, cruelty and bullying. Another issue that abused children develop are internalizing problems. Internalizing problems are issues such as headaches, sleep disturbances, anxiety, fear of separation, social withdraw and depression. This overall causes the children to be less engaged in tasks and in normal behaviors.

The issue of child emotional abuse is often a difficult topic to discuss as well as treat. Emotional abuse can be very difficult to recognize since it is generally a relationship between a child and a caretaker and not a specific incident or series of events that can be pointed to as abuse. In fact, emotional and psychological maltreatment have no definition that is universally agreed upon, therefore, the two terms are often used interchangeably. Emotional abuse is the most common form of child abuse. While emotional abuse can be present absent any other type of abuse, such as physical or sexual abuse, there is almost certainly emotional abuse present with all other forms of abuse. Emotional abuse may not leave physical scars but it does appear to leave long lasting psychological scars. While there is evidence of psychological damage due to emotional abuse, it is not clear exactly how deep and lasting the damage may be. There is a great need to research the effects, treatment, and interventions for emotional abuse.
