Similarities Between Christianity, Stoicism, And Islam

The cause of human ignorance, distress, and strife varies from religion to religion. Christianity and Stoicism have different origins, different solutions, and different ways to cope with the human problem. While the human problem varies in Christianity, Stoicism, and Islam, some similarities can be found if the human problem is addressed at its deepest levels. Before analyzing the origin of the human problem in Christianity, we must first understand the basis of the religion itself. Christianity is a monotheistic religion that focuses primarily on the teachings and beliefs of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that God sent Jesus, and that he is our savior, the savior of humanity. They also believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was resurrected. We are offered salvation in Christianity if we serve and receive Him in faith.
According to Christianity, and The Bible, the human problem does not stem from ignorance, or unnatural relationships, but from sin. Sin, in simple terms, is the disobedience of God or destructive self-assertion. Although men and …show more content…

Stoicism rose during a time of chaos and uncertainty during the Hellenistic Age, and it filled the role of Christianity, until it came along at a much later time. Stoicism answered the desperate calls of help of the people. It offered the people “spiritual liberation” and a “sense of fatedness” during harsh times. Stoics believed the world they were living in, although it seemed chaotic, was in fact an ordered world; that it had structure and was governed by a Divine Reason, Law, or God. They believed everything and anything was structured, “from the smallest worm to the human intellect.” This gave way to a law called Phusis, which simply mean the law of growth of Nature.
