Johnny and Ponyboy were at the park at 2:30 in the morning. They were trying to cool off and relax as they smoked. Then, a blue Mustang blew the horn at Johnny and Ponyboy as the Mustang circled around the park. It was too late for Johnny and Ponyboy to run. 5 socs jumped out of the Mustang. They surrounded Johnny and Ponyboy at the fountain in the middle of the park. One soc named Bob said “Let’s give the kid a bath”. Bob held Ponyboy’s arm behind his back and dunked his head into the fountain. He tried to break free, but Bob was too strong. Bob was trying to drown Ponyboy. He couldn’t hold his breath any longer, but right before he could drown, Johnny took out his switchblade and killed Bob. Ponyboy woke up lying against the fountain. He
In contrast to the removed Johnny shown early on, after the realization that he endangered several children, he boldly rushed to assist. After killing Bob in self-defense, Johnny bolts with Ponyboy to an abandoned church in the countryside. However, after presumably dropping a lighted cigarette, the church ignites in a blaze of fumes. Realizing there are children in the flaming church, Johnny and Ponyboy dart to aid. During the calamity, Ponyboy realizes that, “Johnny had been right behind me all the way” as he slips through a broken window and into the fiery church and notes that, “Johnny wasn’t behaving at all like his old self...That was the only time I can think of when I saw him without that defeated, suspicious look in his eyes” (92).
How can two characters that have such a similar lifestyle, be so extremely different? In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the author proves that such instances happen. Dallas Winston and Johnny Cade have very similar lives, but are completely different people. Johnny is more of a sensitive person and always likes to follow the rules. While Dallas on the other hand, loves to break the laws and do the wrong thing. These two characters are very similar on the inside, but are very different on the outside.
“They were driving you, Pony. They might have killed you.” (Hinton, page 57) Johnny said they could've killed party which I did in the same tragic situation if Johnny had done something to save him. Second, Johnny was just lying there on the ground watching Pony choking trying to get air.
they were gonna beat me up.” This quote explains how the “Socs” were going to end up drowning Pony if Johnny didn’t end up killing Bob. Also, if Johnny didn’t do what he did, he might’ve ended up dead too because he also saw that they
It did not sit right with them. The men got out of the car and started taunting the two boys. Johnny did not feel good about this because one of the men that were standing in front of him had recently jumped him. He was scared for life. Johnny promised if anyone tried to jump him again he would kill them. This was not a lie. Pony was grabbed by Bob and he attempted to drown Pony in the nearby fountain. Johnny was angry at the fact that his friend could possibly die in front of his eyes. Johnny pulled out his 6 inch switchblade and stabbed Bob to death in hopes of saving Pony, that's exactly what he did.
Johnny and Ponyboy got stuck in a fight with some of the Socs. Johnny ended up killing a Soc in order to protect his brother. Or in other words, he was loyal to his brother. Ponyboy showed many ways in which him and his family/friends grew up.
How did every character affect Ponyboy? All characters affected Ponyboy ,but mainly Johnny affects Ponyboy. Johnnys actions helped Ponyboy through hard times, and he was Ponyboy’s best friend.
I listened intently as Ponyboy explained that it was almost four months ago when Johnny was jumped by a gang of socs with a blue Mustang. I flinched at that detail because Bob’s friend had a blue mustang that they would always cruise around in. I told myself it was just a coincidence. I kept on listening as he described that Johnny had been scratched up and bruised by a guy with a lot of rings on his hand. I could hear Ponyboy’s disgust in his voice. I paused at that. I was sure that I had gone completely pale and that Ponyboy noticed because he paused to look at
After running for a while they stopped in another parking lot with a fountain in the middle. While in the parking lot a blue mustang that belonged to the Socs that beat up Johnny a long time ago pulled up. They stepped out and started to insult Johnny and Ponyboy, Ponyboy snapped back and they grabbed him and shoved his head in the found as stated, “They grabbed my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain. I fought, but the hand at the back of my neck was strong and I had to hold my breath. I’m dying, I thought, and wondered what was happening to Johnny.” This showed that those Socs were even going to kill them just because they talked back, but they were also drunk which also shows how dangerous drunk Socs are. To save Ponyboy Johnny had to kill the Soc and afterwards they both had to run out of town to avoid being arrested. This changed Ponyboys identity into a outlaw.
Johnny and shoved him. After shoving him Joe ran off Johnny told the principal. The principal called Joe's parents and he got in trouble. Later Johnny drove home with a smirk on his face. When he was on his way home he was delayed. He finally got home and took a nice soaking bath. The next morning he went to the bank and loaned some money. When Johnny was driving home he
The Johnny gasped and turned white as a ghost then red with rage. While all of the other boys were looking at the Ponyboy who was drowning, Johnny pulled a knife out of his back pocket, I gasped I knew what he was going to do seconds before he did it. “Wait!” I screamed, but the boy didn’t even acknowledge me. I turned around, I couldn’t watch. This reminded me too much of Yaqui beating me up, but this was different, these boys fought unlike we did. The way we fought it wasn’t killing each other or anything like that, but it was almost worse. Being humiliated in front of the whole school. Both Ponyboy and I got hurt though mine was both mentally and physically. The only other thing that I could see that connected our two lives was that we both fought back. Well actually Johnny fought for Ponyboy, but it’s pretty much the same, in the end the bullies both got what they deserved. No, that’s not true, nobody (even Yaqui Delgado) deserves to die. By the time I turned back around the boys were driving away in their car and the boy who had been killed was slumped on the ground not moving. The other boy; Johnny was helping to pull his friend; Ponyboy out of the water
The subsequent conflict is man vs man when Johnny kills Bob in self-defense. Johnny is with ponyboy at the park then a blue mustang is driving around the park, Johnny and Ponyboy don’t feel safe therefore they try to flee. Five Socs are walking towards them, they feel threaded so Johnny takes out a blade, but ponyboy does not have a weapon. They see Randy, Bob, and three other Socs, Bob said “Here’s the little greasers that picked up our girls. Hey, Greaser”. Bob also said that the greasers are “white trash with long hair”. They have comebacks back and forth until ponyboy tried to attack them “I ducked and tried to run for it, but the Soc caught my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain. I fought,
Johnny and Ponyboy are two characters in S.E Hinton’s novel ‘The Outsiders.' They both have contrary lives from each other with a few similarities, as well as being two greasers from a second society. Johnny has had a rough life so far since both his parents never cared for him. His mother would abuse him verbally, and his father would abuse him physically and verbally. As for Ponyboy, both of his parents died, leaving him with his two older brothers Sodapop and Darry. Johnny and Ponyboy both read ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ at the ran down church. They didn’t know precisely what the poem meant, but little do they know that the poem would have a significant similarity to them individually. Each line and stanza refer to the experiences that Johnny and Ponyboy have lived through throughout the story.
Then Ponyboy runs out the door, finds Johnny, and goes to the park. There, however, the two young greasers run into randy and bob, with a huge group of their Socs friends. One of the Socs friends hold pony boy’s head under a cold water fountain, and Ponyboy blacks out. When he comes to, he is lying on the ground next to Johnny. The bloody corps of bob is next to them. To save Ponyboy, Johnny had to kill bob.
The next day Ponyboy was walking home when a boy drove up in his 1971 silver Mustang, he introduced himself as Leo Young. Ponyboy thought Leo looked about 25 although he was only 17. He had dark brown hair he was wearing a pair of sunglasses a leather jacket and blue jeans, he wasn't a greaser but he wasn't a Soc.
