Theme: This essay will analyze how the themes of injustice, profiling, and fear is portrayed in both “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee and various short stories in Richard Wright’s “Eight Men”. People in society always find ways to blame other people for problems that occur. The character Boo Radley was unfairly blamed in his society for problems that went wrong in the town. Boo was blamed for bad things that happened in the town, even though no one knew him. “Once the town was terrorized by a series of morbid nocturnal events: people’s chickens and household pets were found mutilated...although the culprit was Crazy Addie…people still looked at the Radley place, unwilling to discard their initial suspicion (Lee 9). At first look, Arrow of God and Smoke Signals do not seem to have a great deal in common. Arrow of God takes place in Nigeria. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee gives a detailed story in which many characters aren’t treated the way they should be. Jean Louise, along with the rest of her family, living in a happy town called Maycomb, but little did she know that it was falling into a hole of racism and conflict. They witnessed two “mockingbirds” falsely get accused of horrible actions in which they later get deemed heroic while the other one dies as a result of pressure. Throughout the story, they interact with many “mockingbirds”, and experience their innocence in the horrible situations they go through.
Injustice is one of the most common themes in the books that you read. Injustice means lack of justice or fairness. A Tale of Two Cities will be used as an example of Injustice in the essay. If you read the whole story, you could notice some injustice in it. Like how the steamress got executed when she did not do anything wrong to Madame Defarge.
