A "Family Sized" Please Ravenous by nature, the obese want food, need food and have an extraordinary talent of exposing all of food's hiding places. When the obese go on a hunt, food goes for a punt into their mouths and down the esophagus. Just like Pac-Man, the obese pursue their food relentlessly. To the casual observer, the food on the plate disappears in the blink of an eye. But for the obese, time freezes as they savor each and every morsel remains. On a serious note, the obese, caught in a continuous struggle between stomach and mind, undergo an everlasting relentless body mass gain. America has the dubious distinction of winning the first prize for the most obese country in the world. Nearly 78 million Americans are victims of the ever …show more content…
We must save ourselves from this terrible fate. We have to embrace a first class socialistic and controlled approach to food distribution. Let's distribute food according to BMI. Rather than letting the fat get fatter and the skinny become skinnier, this method will allow the skinny to gain fat and the fat to gain skinny. We can put an end to the "skinny fat" stereotype and at the same time lower the overwhelming monstrosity of America's size. Using this phenomenal socialistic method we can solve the national crisis of obesity. Right? Hello, Can somebody should consult the founding fathers on this approach??? Insert a chip into the arm of every generally overwhelming large individual. Like a dog trained on a leash, the chip will train its owner. As you surreptitiously make your way to the refrigerator at 2:00 am, thinking about binge watching an entire season of Friends while eating your deliciously cajoled chocolate ice cream, you will encounter a bewildering dismay. Your refrigerator will lock shut, the moment your hand touches the handle, blockading your hope and desire for mouth watering milk, sugar flavouring, and fat. Shocking you with electricity the moment you reach for more food, your brain will eventually assimilate that eating less outweighs getting fried . Eventually over days of dedication, you'll find that the additional chub that had rippled before with ease is now gone and hard as a
Obesity within adults is a prevalent problem in the United States, with over 51% of all adults suffering from obesity by the year 2030 (Joyner et al. 217). Obesity, or the state of being excessively overweight, is sometimes a result from what is known as food addiction. Much like an addiction to a substance, to be addicted to food is to constantly crave a certain food item (Joyner et al. 217). Obesity and food addiction tend to coincide with each other. That coexistence is shown primarily in the documentary Super Size Me, in which director Morgan Spurlock focuses on the way fast food and food addiction affect the human body.
Over time, there have been more activists groups than one person can count. Some of these groups, however, stand out amongst the others. A group that calls themselves the "Fativists" have recently been surfacing in many mainstream outlets such as blogs, social media, and even Television. Fativists fight discrimination against those who are overweight or fat to put it simply. There is now a growing group of people who believe that "Big is Beautiful" and, despite the social stigma, that fat people are actually just as beautiful if not more beautiful than those people who are thin.
Today I will be discussing the issue of America becoming increasingly overweight and obese and will present a a possible way of remedying the impending epidemic.
America, like any other country, has its assortment of problems: immigration, debt, or foreign affairs but one issue that is rather hard to overlook, literally, its obesity epidemic. The extra pounds have become a sight all too common in America’s society, “men are now on average seventeen pounds heavier than they were in the late seventies, and for women that figure is even higher: nineteen pounds.” (Kolbert). Obesity does not just affect adults in this way either, the kid population has been getting bigger, according to the numbers on a scale “the proportion of overweight children, age six to eleven, has more than doubled, while the proportion of overweight adolescents, age twelve to nineteen, has more than tripled.” (Kolbert). This issue has been a major concern to doctors and scientists for decades and in recent years, has even has the American Medical Association recognizing obesity to be a disease (Pollack). That is a highly debatable statement because obesity itself is a preventable lifestyle. Obesity is avoidable and curable to all (or at least most) of its sufferers. For some citizens, obesity is not a choice, rather genetics, but for the majority of the population, obesity is caused by an unhealthy diet and lazy lifestyle, and for these certain individuals, through a lot of work and discipline, the return to a healthy lifestyle is not as impossible as it may appear.
Obesity in America is an epidemic people die from this deadly disease. As people of America, we first need to understand what does it really mean to be overweight and uncomfortable? Nutritionists classify people in today’s society as either underweight, healthy weight, overweight, or obese. Being obese is not just a cosmetic problem. It’s a health issue that needs to be solved. Excess body fat accumulated over a period of time is harmful and it hurts.imagine walking around holding a ten-pound weight every day, then a few weeks later that ten-pound weight turns into a 2o pound weight. That’s not a good feeling it’s very comfortable. Who wants to have shortness of breath heart problems, diabetes, wheelchair bound or bed bound? Let’s make a change for humanity and the next generations.
As seen during the eighteenth century, the presence of excess body fat was envied and very rare; seen only in kings, the rich, and the wealthy as a sign of power and prosperity. Once food shortage was no longer relevant, the 20th century re-assessed this “sign of power” as a sign of ill health, and was then documented in medical practices as the chronic disease known as obesity. As we look at the roots of obesity today, causes of the disease cannot be attributed to a single origin. However, there are many daily influences that justify our nations expanding waistlines; the most obvious being an unhealthy diet. The role of food in our society has altered the way Americans perceive nutrition. Meal times are advertised as social events; an instance of mindless eating, with little awareness on stopping when you’re full, and overeating as a result. Portion sizes are much larger than nutritionally necessary, and lack in substantial protein, causing you to
78 million adults and 13 million children in America dealing with health and emotional problems because they can’t stop eating(“Understanding the American Obesity Epidemic”). This is why they are not too thin. I must say, it is with great sorrow that we see young children, of ages eight or eighteen, or even adults, of ages twenty five or sixty, struggling to even take a few steps, some accompanied by wheelchairs, some desperately having to stay at home due to immobility and some who are left to no use. These are the ones who become either successful and are able to lose weight, or become useless individuals.
KRAKOW, POLAND- According to an alarming new study published Friday by the Federation of Abnormalities in Thickness, the percentage of obese Americans over the age of twenty has just hit 40%. This growing obesity epidemic has been called one of the heaviest issues in modern day society. "I don't understand why those in rich, developed nations like the US or the UK get to gorge themselves with lavish delicacies every day, while in Eastern civilizations, people are forcing dirt down their throat simply to survive." said Winnie Woltrap, celebrity spokesperson for FAT. "So why is food still being handed to the already obese Americans while the millions of starving people in Africa have bellies full of worms?"
America is rated the number one for obesity in the whole world, with a 30.6% of the population being classed as obese. Also it has had its own T.V. documentary show done on it, “Super Size Me” which shows what Americans eat and the drastic damage it can do to your body.
Obesity is a big topic in American society, it has grown over the years and it has become very well known. It has become an American concern and the food industry has been an easy target to blame for this “epidemic”. The truth to this is that it can be easy to blame the fast food industry, but the real truth it is, that obesity has become what it is now because our society has let that happened; the government, the citizens, the food industry's. They have all played an important role to what it is now obese.
Obesity is one of America’s problems that we struggle with every day. Even other countries see America for obesity and how much junk food and pop we consume. Our first lady is even trying to help fix this problem. Schools are gaining healthy lunches and changing up a few things in how make what school’s eat. That’s a great step, but you can always avoid school lunches. I know that people can’t force people to eat healthy. But I realize that how we are is really not anyone’s fault, except ours. Obesity is how much self control people have and how we handle our food options.
In the United States the society needs to work on controlling this problem known as obesity. It is a problem that if does not get controlled sooner than later, will spiral out of hand even more. Before this spirals out of control society needs to take action to reducing the cost of healthy food amongst middle-low class citizens so they can eat the
Since the 1980’s, obesity has been a huge issue in America. Obesity is the condition of being extremely overweight. Several Americans today are eating too much food and not exercising enough. Americans today fail to realize how important it is to stay healthy and fit. Obesity is a result of the body receiving more calories than needed. Once a human consumes too many calories, the body stores these additional calories which becomes body fat. Over time, these excess calories will result in weight gain. Individuals will gain less weight if they ingest fewer calories. The obesity epidemic is getting worse day by day and it’s beginning to control the lives of Americans. Therefore, it is our job as Americans to rid of this epidemic before it seizes
A full-scale epidemic is currently sweeping over the nation of America. This plague is infamous for causing diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, and numerous other ailments. It affects one in four Americans and approximately 400,000 people die from it each year (“Obesity”). This disease that I am referring to is unbiased, as it is capable of affecting anyone and everyone, even children. Today, obesity is the leading cause of a multitude preventable deaths. There are many consequences of obesity, from medical to psychological ones. In order to conquer this growing problem, one must first understand what causes it.
It is true that obese people have been struggling with obesity for many years but have never found a solution to lose weight; however, a revolutionary idea has the power to change everything. Therefore, I propose to starve the people in our society who are considered obese, and spend that food on the skinny in order to reach an equilibrium with the intention that everyone will eventually have the same weight depending on their height; the solution to the central issue.
