Help Stop Snoring And Sleep Apnea With Our Help
If you or someone in your family snores loudly during naps or nighttime sleep, this is probably getting old. Snoring this loudly keeps other family members awake. Worse, it can interfere with the sleep of the person doing the snoring. And with how little time there is to get sleep thanks to our busy lives, using that time effectively is very important.
But snoringthis isn’t about teeth, so what can a dentist do? A lot, actually — if they have the right training and technology. Most dentists in the Rogue Valley area do not help patients with bad snoring or sleep apnea. But Dr. Vareldzis and his dental team are trained to help health issues involving the whole mouth. Since

But people who suffer from sleep apnea get a little too relaxed. If the muscles in the back of the throat become over-relaxed, they don’t properly support the soft palate, tonsils, and side walls of the throat. These all start to sag, which closes off your windpipe. Your body thinks it’s suffocating, so you suddenly start gasping for air. But because your airway isn’t really blocked, you fix the problem so fast that you don’t fully wake up. If this were to happen a few times during the night, it’s usually no problem. But sleep apnea can cause this to happen 30 or more times each hour. That means you could be waking up at least 240 times in the standard eight hours of …show more content…

What is Sleep Apnea? Sleep apnea is sleep related breathing disorder. It disrupts a person's normal breathing pattern while sleeping. This serious disorder decreases the levels of oxygen in the blood during long periods of sleep when the breathing repeatedly stops and starts while asleep. This chronic condition happens when the muscles at the back the throat relaxes and narrows the airway causing breathing pauses or shallow breaths, a common condition called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This occurrence significantly affects the quality of sleep that explains the feeling of tiredness and sleepiness during the day.
I grew up with a passionate dentist as a mother, who would often go into great depths about her work with me and would sometimes even bring home x-rays and pictures to show me cavities that patients had and how she fixed them. I began shadowing her, to better understand the work, and I immediately developed an interest in technologies such as UV curing and 3D impression modeling. I wanted to learn more, so I applied to her VA hospital’s volunteer program. Over the next several years I had the privilege of working as a neurologist’s assistant, an IT team member, and an emergency room patient coordinator. This long-term apprenticeship exposed me to the latest advancements in healthcare technology.
In order to solidify my interest in dentistry, I shadowed Dr. Pishya Chamkasem at Smile Solutions Dental. I immediately noticed his exquisite skill level while he treated his patients. He taught me how to do cleanings, composite fillings, and crowns. While observing him, I envisioned myself in his shoes. I knew that, under the right guidance, I could perform dental procedures and deliver honest service.
Sleep Apnoea Occurs when the walls of your throat come together during sleep blocking off the airway above your trachea. CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is considered to be the most effective treatment of sleep apnoea for the reason that it reduces night time sleeplessness as compared to oral appliance.
Sleep apnea is a common sleeping disorder where a person has experiences of not breathing during sleep. Over 20 million Americans, mostly overweight men, suffer from sleep apnea. Despite these numbers, sleep apnea is often not treated directly because its symptoms are thought to be those of depression, stress, or just loud snoring. There may be a genetic component to this disorder as it often occurs within families.People with sleep apnea stop breathing for at least 10 seconds at a time; these short stops in breathing can happen up to 400 times every night.
Sleep apnea syndrome is a severe condition that can prove to be deadly. Those diagnosed with apnea often drift off to sleep normally, however, once sleeping their capacity to breath normally becomes blocked. This blockage is triggered when the muscles inside the throat relax and obstruct the airway.
People who have suffer from breaks in their breathing at night are often diagnosed with sleep apnea. However, this diagnosis is often incorrect: many times, people are actually suffering from Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (or UARS), a condition that causes similar problems, but which is caused by obstructions in your throat. Understanding the differences can help you get a more accurate diagnosis from your doctor.
Almost ten percent of men suffer from sleep apnea. The condition occurs more frequently in overweight men. Since sleep apnea typically causes snoring, many men are awakened several times a night because of difficulty breathing. There are many facts and myths regarding the treatment of insomnia. Not properly addressing the symptoms can have dangerous complications.
The two most common causes of sleep disorder is central and obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is when our breathing is interrupted throughout the night because your brain fails to signal the muscles to breathe. Obstructive sleep apnea occurs with blocked airways and your struggle to breathe triggers coughing or snoring – in actuality your body is grasping for air.
The dictionary defines sleep as “The natural periodic suspension of consciousness during which the powers of the body are restored” (Webster’s 638) If one is waking up on an average of 300 times per night, the chances of complete body restoration are minimal. The Greek word apnea literally means “without breath”. An estimated 30 million Americans stop breathing during their sleep sometimes 30-40 times per hour and often for a minute, or longer each time. Of these, about 20 million are in the early stages, and about 10 million have progressed to a level of severity that requires treatment. According to the National
Avi Weisfogel is a dentist who uses oral remedies to treat sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a disorder that blocks breathing when one is asleep. This disorder mostly affects people who are overweight. Although the disorder is said to mainly come from overweight issues there are other factors that can cause it. People with genetic issues like enlarged tonsils and chronic nasal conditions are at a higher risk of suffering from sleep apnea. From the data gotten from Dr. Avi Weisfogel`s research adults are more likely to suffer from this disorder than children. The most common symptom is snoring. However sleep apnea patients can suffer from drowsiness, forgetfulness and even severe headaches. This is because the patients sleep is often disturbed from
In the textbook, “Psychology in Modules”, sleep is defined as “our periodic natural loss of consciousness” (pg.100) (Myers & Dewall, 2015). I am a person that loves to sleep a lot and consider it as a hobby of mine as it is useful in stressful times to restore and gain energy back after a long day depending on the type of situation that occurred. Based upon the sleeping disorders discussed such as insomnia, narcolepsy, etc.…, I never undergone any of them but the common one that I have seen that most people tend to get is sleep apnea. I would wonder how it occurs to others as in my family, both of my parents snore in the middle of their sleep but my siblings and I don’t. There would be times where they would choke in their own saliva and wake up having trouble
Nearly 19 million Americans has sleep apnea. These people do not know what a sound sleep is. There is more than just snoring associated with a sleep apnea sufferer. During a case of sleep apnea, the throat relaxes and even closes during sleep causing the person to stop breathing for short, periods. The snoring sound you hear is when the sleeper gasps for air and tries to resume breathing. Many people look for a home treatment of sleep apnea.
Sleep is an essential part of everyday life. It is one of several components which help keep us alive. However, a significant percentage of the human population has difficulty reaching and maintaining Stage IV within their sleeping patterns, the stage that allows the mind and body to fall into a deep and restorative sleep, known as REM sleep. This is a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea, a "serious, potentially life-threatening condition that is far more common than generally understood" (Sleep Apnea n.d.). Obstructive sleep apnea can be very dangerous if it is not properly detected and treated. Nearly 18 billion Americans today (or 1 out of every 5) have a form of sleep apnea. About 4% of people are undiagnosed (or 1 out of 50). It can occur in all age groups and different sexes. (Sleep Apnea n.d.)
