According to the article “Is your smartphone hurting your GPA.” *By Alexander Lacasse “people can receive up to 200 texts a day.” In the recent years phones have become more popular and have been more of a struggle for schools. Using phones in school has multiple options whether or not to use them during class. One reason why phones should be allowed to be used during class, because it helps do classroom/homework when some schools can’t use their phones during class they might be falling behind and they won’t get the resources by different apps to help them. Charlie Wells wrote, “Smartphones go to school.” Gives us information that “apps are becoming more useful in school for both teachers and students.” (Wells 2 ) There are teachers that …show more content…
If students aren’t doing good in a class the students will do even worse when being on their phone. Therefore Nara Schoenburg who wrote ‘Is your smartphone hurting your GPA?” Explains “it’s possible that [...] an easily distracted students is texting a lot and doing poorly in class, with the understanding cause of poor performance being the distractibility, not the texting.” ( Schoenburg 3) Easily distracted students are going to be very distracted to go check their phone. When they check your phone they aren’t doing their work or paying attention to the teacher. When schools have phones their GPA might decrease because they are looking at their phones rather than studying. Lastly, Nara Schoenburg from “Is your smartphone hurting your GPA?” shows, phones will decrease your GPA the longer you use your phone rather than studying and how teens and kids are putting more time to your phone than studying. ( Schoenburg 2) Phones will decrease your GPA because your putting more time into your phone rather than studying or doing school work. GPAs could become lower when you use your phone. Having phones as technology in school could help or hinder students education. Some of the reasons phones should be used during class is because it helps with them study, while people say why phones shouldn’t be used is because they may or may not educate them and students spend their being on phones instead of working. Think about the amount of time you send and receive those 200 texts a day and think about the time you can be studying rather than
In conclusion the use of cell phones are a distraction with preadolescent, adults, and college students. It could also be argue that it could benefit us in case of an emergency to have our cell phone. When a phone call cannot be taken due to being in class a simple text can keep from the rest of the class hearing your conversation, and private discussion with whomever is texting
Sylvia McDonald’s “The effects and predictor value of in-class texting behavior on final course grades” discusses the negative correlation between cell phone use in schools and final grades through research, examples, and charts. McDonald states that while cell phones can be an excellent form of communication, they can oftentimes be a very big distraction. Studies were given to further support the argument. The researchers conducted a study that included three different colleges, all with different cell phone policies. The results of the study were very self evident. The study showed a negative correlation between the cell phone policy and the test average. The college with the most lenient policy tended to have the lowest test score. Overall, the author explains the relevance of cell phone use and how much of a
Are you always on your phone? Either Snapchatting, on Instagram, scrolling through your twitter feed? It can be pretty temping to pick up your phone and do this stuff in class but you can use them in good ways in school. George Washington Middle School currently has cell phones banned in class. Although most teachers think that cell phones are a distraction, cell phones should be allowed in class because students feel anxious without their phones, there are many educational uses, and allowing phones is more convenient.
Hmm, phones in the classroom! What do you think? That is a debate between billions of people in the world today. Children all over the world have phones, but they can not have them out during school hours. Cell phones are important to so many kids and adults. These devices have been around for so long, and many people can not live without them. All around the school campus, students are miserable without their phones. In the world today, about three-fourths of the U.S. population have phones. A cell phone is an important thing to some people. Without cell phones, kids wouldn't have access to their social media accounts like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more. So take this into consideration, even if it is in one class, students should be allowed to get on their cell phones during school hours.
The students would not have to make time to go to the computer lab to use a computer, they could instantly research at their desk (Funding , 2014). For students to use a cell phone in the classroom, they would have to be greatly monitored to keep them focused on research, not playing games, texting, or browsing social media. If the students are not monitored when using a cell phone in class, their learning process is hindered greatly. Statistics show that seventy-three percent of teachers admitted that they or their students use cell phones in the classroom (Bautista, 2013). Cell phones can be a distraction for teachers as well as students, if teachers are too wrapped up in their social networking profiles and not concerned with the students sitting before them, they are failing to do their job
There are many schools that say that having cell phones in the classroom can actually
A random teenager said in an article that she receives about 900 texts a day. A lot of teenagers use cell phones several times a day as well. Cell phones are useful for teenagers because they help build relationships, communicate, have many uses, and can help people learn and teach.
"Students persistently use them a great deal for personal interactions via social media when they should be paying attention to what is going on in class.'' It can be an attention problem, students are naturally drawn to their phones because of their multiple uses that they have. If teachers used that to their advantage and involve them with educational purposes, it could be useful. That way if they did actually receive a text from their parents they could easily reply without having to worry about consequences. At that point if the students continue to not participate, it could easily result in a violation of whatever policy that would be in
Overuse of cellphones can be distracting are when you get a text when you are driving and you answer it you take your focus off the road you can get blindsided. When you have your phone in class you could play on your phone instead on working on your work. People are too distracted on their phone and they have it in their
Why doesn't the school let us use our phones in class if it would help us? There are many reason why using your phones could help you in class. If you listen to music in class it can help you focus. Listening to music helps me get my work done a lot faster. Music blocks out all of the background distraction so it's easier to do whatever you need to do without getting distracted and it's also enjoyable. The only time a teacher should not let students have their phones out is if they are taking a quiz or test.
The first reason cell phones should be allowed in school is because it’s easier to work on projects. For example, kids can upload all their work online.. This means that parents can look at what kids have done and that kids can work on projects on any device as long as the device can connect to the internet. Another example is kids can work on projects online. “This means that teachers can make annotations and grade the work, all online.”This shows teachers don’t have to grade work by hand.
It may be true that phones can be used to provide some help to teachers, but phones should not be used in classrooms because phones can be a distraction, used to cheat, and to cyberbully.
It is true that phone can distract you in class however it's true that phones can distract you from a lot of things like at schools, some jobs, and when your parents are talking to you. Therefore technology should be taken away during school and at the end of school you get it back or you can leave it at home before you go to
Phones should not be allowed to be used at school because phones tend to distract not only the student that has the phone, but also the other student's and the teacher. When a person gets a text they want to answer it right then. When that student or person receives a text, it interrupts the whole class because for one, your going to want to answer it, and for the second reason the class looks at you and that causes a big distraction for everyone that was listening to the teacher and trying to learn. Another reason a phone is distraction is students tend to stay on social media and post crazy things and selfies and during class they want to take a picture of themselves and other student's to post and that distracts not only that person but their classmates around them.
Many people believe that bringing phones to school may cause distractions. However, a recent study has led more and more people to believe that phones could in fact be a powerful learning tool and also serve as a mobile computer. This is why individuals believe that phones should be allowed in school. The first reason for this is in case there is an emergency in the school. The second reason for this is Cell phones would eliminate the need for students to carry calculators and maybe even textbooks if available online. The final reason is so students can use their devices as a learning tool.
