On seeing the banner the principal crossed the street, grabbed the banner and crumpled it up, and suspended the student for 10 days because she interpreted it as appearing to advocate illegal drug use in the form of smoking marijuana. The student unsuccessfully challenged his suspension by requesting a declaratory judgement that the principal violated his First Amendment right to free speech, an injunction to remove the entry of the 10 day suspension he received from his school record, damages awarded against the principal and board and other relief
used as a medicine or as a poison based on how you used it or how you value or viewed it. If you inhale marijuana, you will see the effects faster than you would if you have eaten it. Many people start using marijuana because they want to be relieved or relaxed but others think that marijuana can be addictive and poisonous as it increases the cancer risk. Unfortunately, both sides are right and also the problem lies there too; while the use of marijuana helps many people to relax and forget about their problems, it also makes them addicted to this drug. If they do not take the drug for a long period of time, even have a problem to worry about anymore, not taking the drug itself becomes a problem. When taking the drug in long
In a contemporary study that was published by the American Civil Liberties Union, there had been 49,904 arrests within the state of Illinois for the possession of cannabis in the year 2010 . This made Cook County (Chicago) the county with the most cannabis possession arrests, ahead of New York City, New York (59,451 for all 5 counties) and Los Angeles County, California (15,600). Within the same year, but strictly within the city of Chicago by itself, there is an average of 91 cannabis possession charge arrests on a daily basis. Within the time span of 1975 and 2009, there has been 1,023,434 arrests executed for cannabis-related infractions against the law . As stated in the Cannabis Control Act passed by the Illinois State Legislature in 1978, the first offense could prove to be detrimental to the individual’s future, as the penalty for conviction of possessing 30 grams of cannabis (just over an ounce) has a penalty of up to 264 days in jail
Too often Americans today turn to prescription pills as a cure for the occasional headache to chronic pain, looking for immediate results while overlooking the long list of side effects. What if there was a safer, non-toxic alternative to the standard pharmaceuticals? We should be offered other types of treatment, the option of using medical cannabis. As a result, it can improve a patient's quality of life, and indirectly help to promote positive responses to treatment. While many say the drug has a “high potential for abuse” and should remain illegal, advocate’s present a stronger argument for legalization through the use of evidence and research. Medical marijuana must be legalized for its medicinal properties, its implications to our legal
Imagine a little kid that goes by the name of billy. Billy has cancer, he just got done with Chemotherapy. He couldn't afford the costly medicine the doctor originally prescribed so the doctor prescribed medical marijuana. Billy felt great after taking the weed for the first few weeks but he then he came down with a terrible infection. His immune system, already lowered because of the chemotherapy could not keep up with the infection because the marijuana damaged the immune system even more. Billy spent the rest of his days on a hospital bed not knowing what he could of done with his life. Is not paying for the expensive medicine worth billy’s life? I don’t think so. Medical marijuana can cause brain damage and other negative effects on
Medical Marijuana has been in use for decades. However, it was not until recently that doctors began to research the effects of Marijuana on the body and the mind. Marijuana has both negative and positive consequences, and neither dominates the other. Several doctors swear by the drug, claiming that it has qualities that prescription drugs can not offer. Other doctors claim that the drug is not necessary in the field of medicine, because quite frankly Marijuana isn’t a medication. I believe that Marijuana should not be an option for patients due to the long lasting negative effects. Yet, the idea of prescribing the drug to terminal patients is one that has been debated about in almost every hospital across the world.
Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is referred to as many different names by people from different parts of the world. It is used for both medical and recreational purposes. Smoking marijuana, eating it within foods, vaporizing it, and using it as an extract are some of the ways individuals consumed it. Some people use Marijuana because of the physical and mental effects it has on the physical body. After consuming marijuana, a person experiences feelings like heightened mood, increase in appetite, change in opinion, and euphoria. When smoked, the impact is often experienced after a few minutes, but when cooked or eaten one can take thirty to sixty minutes to experience any effect. Marijuana has a short-term and a long-term impact on
Marijuana always has tar in it, which long term use can cause lung problems. Marijuana can cause a learning problem and short term memory loss, researchers believe this is one of the many reasons younger people drop out of school, or fail out of school when they start smoking marijuana on a daily basis. Researchers also discovered that workers tested positive for marijuana caused or had up to 55% of the accidents reported. The illegal marketing in Mexico for marijuana has killed around tens of thousands of lives. Once your body becomes used to the effects of marijuana, that’s when you go on to the next drug, the harder drug. The everyday use of marijuana by teenagers can make them want to try the next drug earlier in life. Teenagers smoking marijuana everyday are less likely to graduate high school and keep money to own anything worth keeping. Marijuana isn’t just known as the “cancer killer” it’s also known as the “drop out
The addiction of marijuana is an ambiguous debate and conversation. Many still argue whether it is a physiological or physical addiction. A physical addiction is considered to be a much more serious addiction that occurs when your body tries to recuperate itself after using a substance. Addicts usually experience tremors, vomiting, sweating and high blood pressure. Psychological addiction occurs when addicts have a mental dependence on a substance. Symptoms include depression, anxiety, insomnia, mood swings, and social withdrawal. In rare instances, some users might have Cannabis use Disorder, which is a malady that is caused by constant use of cannabis for a long period of time. Even though it is exceedingly rare to have a strong addiction
“A total of 120 children and teenagers with Dravet syndrome—a rare disorder marked by drug-resistant seizures that can be nearly continuous in some cases, we tested with cannabis and over 14 weeks the amount of seizures decreased tremendously.’’Sam Riggio, director of operations for Realm of Caring, a cannabis research, education and advocacy group is trying hard to make cannabis beneficial to people in our society. Cannabis is is illegal in today's society for reasons, such as overuse can lead to insanity, it causes brain cancer, or neck cancer. But it has also been known to cure cancer and help with mental illness. Cannabis is a very conflicted topic in today's society.
The word marijuana scares a lot of people in today’s society. The Government has influenced the American people to automatically assume all who smoke pot are considered criminals and villains. The Government hides from people the good side effects the drug has on many individuals who have been diagnosed with a variety of serious ailments. The current drug laws are doing more harm than good. Legalizing marijuana would benefit our society in many ways. It is unfair and unjust to treat marijuana users more harshly under the law than the users of alcohol or tobacco.
One mala prohibita in the US that I think should be legalized is marijuana use. There is not enough evidence that proves that cannabis use is toxic to our neurons. In a study that used subjects from ages 13 to 38 who were chronic cannabis users to test their IQ after prolonged marijuana use. The results saw that the chronic users who started before 18 had an 8 point drop in their IQ at the age of 38.
A couple of weeks ago my aunt and I had a discussion. The discussion was about a tv character smoking marijuana, and I went on talking about the benefits and how it is a natural plant and not a natural plant mixed with many other things. There have been a very few negative issues with marijuana versus cigarettes which has been linked to deaths, illness, and addiction just to name a few things. It seems like marijuana would be the cure to the cancer and a few other illnesses that cigarettes can cause, the smoke from the marijuana plant does not cause as many issues as cigarette secondhand smoke, marijuana and cigarettes both have certain stigmas attached to them.
Before I can tell you about the recent news about Marijuana, and its huge debacle in the United States today. First let me give you the history of this infamous plant. According to a Frontline article about the history of marijuana in the United States, it was introduced to the United States as far back as the 1600’s. American production of hemp was encouraged by the government in the 17th century for the use of rope, sails, and clothing. It wasn’t something that was known to be used as recreational until the early 1900’s, when Mexican immigrants introduced its alternate uses. The Great Depression of the 1930’s hit and that’s when the fear of marijuana set in because of massive unemployment, it increased public resentment and fear of Mexican immigrants, escalating public and governmental concern about the problem of marijuana. This caused a wave of research to be completed, which linked the use of marijuana with violence, crime and other socially deviant behaviors, primarily committed by "racially inferior" or underclass communities. By 1931, 29 states had outlawed marijuana.
Cannabis has been getting a lot of attention for it’s medical properties. The possibilities are endless for the plant. People are starting to notice the positive effect of cannabis for the nation and its users. It shows a positive future for much need research for cannabis. The FDA is making it difficult to do research because it won't allow government spending for the project. The lack of studies cause controversy with the users not being provided the information need to know the strind need to people them. Cannabis is known for it’s medical solutions, but because it’s a schedule one drug, it lacks research for furthermore discoveries.
