Have you ever choked on someone’s second hand smoke? Well I have. In the world there are fifteen billion cigarettes sold a day. That is ten million sold every minute! In this, I will be telling you about how smoking is bad for you, bad for the environment, and ways smoking in public can be stopped. Smoking should be banned! First of all, as almost everyone knows, smoking is bad for people. When people smoke their chances of having a heart attack go up immediately. Also the chances of getting cancer go up as well. This is because the tar in cigarette smoke contains carcinogens which help develop cancer cells in your body. Yet there is still more to come. Another thing that happens to the body when smoking is a lack of oxygen that …show more content…
This can be stopped by doing things like having more physical activity in our lives. When people are being physically active it lowers the urge to smoke, says “https://smokefree.gov/challenges-when-quitting/cravings-triggers/fight-cravings-exercise”. So being more active can pull people further and further from smoking. Another thing people can do is simply make a law against smoking in public. Now clearly people are definitely going to be against this because then the tobacco sales would go down, but if we want an effective way to stop this, if you think about the way it will positively impact the air and environment around us, it may be the best way to go. Now, people are probably thinking, “ Well why don’t just use the over the counter products that are on television?” The reason I am not using these is because the amount of side effects and symptoms from these is outrageous. So if people are against the past suggestions, another is that they could is try for a period of time to stop smoking all together and see the benefits of the other side. A great example of these challenges is Morgan Spurlock, he sets thirty day challenges and sees if he is able to complete them. I recommend this to people because it is probably the best way to stop smoking. * Now other people who disagree with these reasons will probably say that people don’t have enough time to get enough exercise to completely pull them away from smoking. They’re wrong,
Smoking is an activity that has been around for many years for people to use and adapt into their lifestyle. It is a tool that many people use to help reduce the stresses of life and put them in a comfortable position that enables them to cope with the hectic lifestyle they are living. However, smoking has been scientifically proven to cause many types of cancer, the most common being lung cancer resulting in numerous deaths across the United States. According to BBC, "Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease" (BBC, 2). Evidently, the benefits and drawbacks of smoking have been debated for many years, and only recently have some countries have placed a ban in public places such as Britain and the United
Nicotine is addictive! Most smokers use tobacco regularly because they are addicted to the nicotine. You can be addicted to the nicotine in a physical and physological addiction. Addiction is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, even if they are in the risk of health problems. It is well documented that most smokers identify tobacco as harmful and express a desire to reduce or stop using it, and nearly 35 million of them make a serious attempt to quit. Unfortunately, 7% of those who try to quit in their own achieve more than 1 year of abstinence; most relapse within a few days of trying to quit. Some of the other factors besides nicotine addictive properties include its high level of availability, the small number of legal consequences of using the tobacco, and the advertising methods used by companies. What most people do not realize is that the
Along with the benefits listed above, nicotine is a substance that can be harmful when
The World Health Organization, Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and every medical board and association agrees that cigarettes are extremely detrimental, yet people keep smoking them. Cigarettes by nature and design are highly addictive and very hard to quit once you have started a habit of smoking them. Surveys have found that smokers themselves don’t even like smoking cigarettes they
Unfortunately, it seems that people not only risk their life with every cigarette they smoke, but also affect everybody else who is around. Everybody can be affected by second-hand smoke.
Quit smoking without using patches or nicotine gum? Once the impossible dream, today's quitters are using a high-tech replacement for the tobacco-stuffed paper tubes now banned in work places and shared spaces. Nicotine bearing gums and patches help many end a dangerous and increasingly expensive habit. Many quitters find success using traditional smoking cessation products, but those products only replace nicotine. Unfortunately, they completely fail to replace an important element of the smoking experience; they do not feel the same. Quitting smokers miss that sensation of smoke hitting the back of the throat. They miss the deep inhale; they miss blowing smoke through pursed lips. Enter the electronic cigarette, a nearly complete substitute for the smokers' ritual.
Hello everyone, I am here to tell you about an article I read not too long ago. The article is about the danger of the use of nicotine to infants’ health from electric cigarettes’ fluid (e-cig fluid) or personal vaporizer. The title of the article is “Nicotine Poisoning in an Infant” and there are three doctors who wrote this article. The doctors who wrote this article are targeting the vapers (e-cig users) including parents as an audiences. People who vapes e-cigs are everywhere even if you go indoor you will see people vaping e-cigs because they don’t smell like smoking regular cigarettes. So vapers the questions are “What is in the electric cigarettes?” and “Do electric cigarettes are safer to use than regular cigarettes?”
I highly discourage you to abstain from even trying smokeless tobacco which consists of snuff, chewing tobacco, and dissolvables. They may seem harmless and super easy to get away with using but there is a very real dark side to using them.
There are some important things that I would like to bring to your attention after doing some extensive research. According to webmd.com, did you know that out of the entire population, 20.9% of them smoke? Out of that 20.9%, 15.5% die of smoke related diseases! Not to mention the people affected by second hand smoke. According to cancer.org, more than 41,000 Americans die from secondhand smoke exposure every year. According to the class survey, none of you smoke, which is a good thing! But most of you know someone that does smoke, and most of you said that the people that smoke are closely related to you such as your parents, grandparents or friends. Let me tell you how I relate to this topic.. My brother had sleep apnea and was eventually killed by it. He passed away in his sleep after his lungs collapsed. You might be thinking, how does this relate to smoking? Well he
Smoking is an expensive habit. People who smoke cigarettes can spend as much as $2,500 a year on them. Smokers’ claim that it helps relax them and it releases stress but the negative aspects of smoking outweigh the positive. Smoking is a health hazard for smokers and non-smokers. Smokers should have the right to choose what to do with their own health but they should respect non-smokers. Many people believe that there are good and bad outcomes from smoking. I believe that smoking is bad and that it should be banned.
To begin let’s talk about the many, many health risks that are caused from smoking. I’ll start off with the biggest consequence smoking causes. Cancer. According to the CDC.gov website, nine out of ten lung cancers are caused from smoking cigarettes. And although lung cancer is the most common cancer associated with smoking, it is definitely not the only one. Smoking can cause cancer anywhere in the body. From the mouth to the colon, nothing is safe from cancer when you smoke. According to betobaccofree.gov, the chemicals in cigarettes harm your blood cells and damage your heart, increasing your likelihood of developing aneurysms, cardiovascular disease, Coronary heart disease, and strokes. Smokers also develop mouth sores and ulcers and as stated on deltadentalins.com, smokers are about 4 times more likely than non-smokers to develop gum disease. Smokers experience muscle deterioration because blood and oxygen are restricted and can’t reach the muscles.
The tobacco industry kills more people in North America from Monday to Thursday of each week than the terrorists murdered in total on September 11, 2001. That sounds unrealistic, doesn’t it? Well, smoking is an epidemic that affects us all, whether you are a smoker or you aren’t. In order to stop this epidemic, we need to

Smoking increases the risk of suffering from heart diseases, stroke, other lung diseases and other respiratory illnesses. The body develops horrific reactions to the daily onslaught of smoking. It damages the blood vessels in the legs and arms for example, which lead to restricted circulation and even amputation of the limbs. Also, a smoker addict will eventually start getting eye irritations (which leads to blindness), foul smelling hair, hair loss and even start developing a loss of smell. All of these reactions are due to the dangerous chemicals cigarettes contain.
It is estimated that 36.5 million adults smoke in the United States of America (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). A cigarette contains 7,000 chemicals and 70 of those can cause cancer (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). When someone decides to smoke a cigarette, they are not only choosing to allow those toxins into their body but are imposing all those same toxins on anyone around them. Secondhand smoke is the combination of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and the smoke breathed out by smokers and is considered more dangerous then smoking the cigarette (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention B). Every year 480,000 people in the United States of America die because of cigarette smoking, which is the leading cause of preventable disease and death. Why has this deadly habit become such a casual part of the American life? This habit is not only harmful to the person smoking, but is hurting everyone around them. It may be their decision to smoke and cause damage to their own bodies but when they decide to smoke in public they are infringing on the rights of everyone around them right to protect their health. Smoking should be made illegal because it is not only harmful to the smokers but also causes harm to fetuses in utero, developing children and any other adults who may breathe that smoke in.
