Have you ever thought of the damage of smoking? Smoking causes harm to the body. It leads to many serious illnesses. Not only that, but the harmful effects of smoking also has on the environment and the cash that would otherwise be in your pocket. We all know that smoking is “bad” because of the bad effects of it. Smoking should be banned because it is dangerous, affects the people around you, and it is expensive.
The first reason why smoking should be banned is it is dangerous. As we know that smoking has been shown to be dangerous to health. According to Cancer Research UK smoking causes more than 4 in 5 cases of lung cancer. If you smoke one pack of cigarettes each day for ten years, you’ll spend almost $77,000, it is easily enough to buy a new car or put a deposit on a house. In addition smoking puts a financial burden on society. According to the CDC, this burden continues to rise, with approximately $193 billion spent annually in the United States---$97 billion from lost productivity and $96 billion due to smoking-related health care costs, respectively. The Society of Actuaries reported in 2006, which is the latest data available, that secondhand smoke costs the U.S. around $10 billion a year: about $5 billion in medical costs associated with secondhand smoke and $4.6 billion in lost wages. Although some people may think they are still able to save some of their income to buy cigarettes, but lets think there are many things that we can buy or something we can do if we are not smoking, such as buy a car or having holiday.
