“If we don’t stand up for others, who would be left to stand up for us?” This is a quote by Karen Traviss, an author. This quote connects to a situation that happened to me, around 4 years ago at my soccer game. “Hi Amanda!” I excitedly said as I walked to the field.
“Hi Talia,” said Amanda, “Want to practice for the game?”
“Sure,” I responded. I had been excited for this game specifically because I would be able to be one of the defenders. I usually would play as goalie but I was getting tired of playing as one. As Amanda and I had been passing the ball around and practice making goals, the other girls on our team started to walk in. We were all doing our own thing, some girls were passing, some were talking, and even some were running laps on the green, wet grass. Once all the girls arrived, the coach told us to run three laps. I felt like I could fall on my face any minute since the grass had been watered. “Okay guys,” the Coach stated, “we have been on a losing streak so I’m going to switch thing up a bit. Talia you are going to be a defender, Amanda you are going to be goalie, Sophia is going to be our second defender, Georgie and Darla are going to be midfielders, and finally Camille is going to be our attacking midfielder.” We all went to our assigned positions. “Good luck Amanda,” I told her. “You too,” she replied to me, “Oh god we’re starting.” Since it had been my first time being a defender, I was scared I would have messed up. Around five minutes into

Soccer is regarded as the world’s biggest sport, it’s played everywhere, from the streets to major cities around the globe. There are many misconceptions about soccer and it’s very frustrating to hear about; being a Soccer fan myself. Whether you call it football or soccer, there are three enormous misconceptions I hear all the time and one of the biggest misconception I hear from people is that soccer is a very long and boring sport. The second one I pick up from people is whenever a penalty kick has been awarded, the referee must give a red or yellow card to the opposing teams defender. This Just isn’t true. The last misconception is you will get beat up by delinquents if you go to a game. Most People believe that soccer isn’t very exciting to watch and is very tiresome to go through. Soccer isn’t a game where two teams go back and forth scoring goal after goal.
During both my High School years and now into college I have been able to keep up with my academics requirements and play soccer which requires a lot of dedication. Soccer has not only allowed me to be in good physical shape, but has also given the experience of working in a team environment, where you are constantly trying to help out others. You also learn that harder tasks involve more time and
Have you ever heard the saying, “have you ever wanted something so much it hurt”? Well, when I say it. I’m talking about literally hurting. Your legs are so sore, it feels like you can’t take another stride, your so out of breath from chasing the ball around, and your so exhausted from last nights practice, your bed seems to be the most attractive thing to you right now. Three hour practices of straight running, push ups, and sit ups has its pros and cons. Even at times when you feel like you need a break, pushing yourself through it is what makes you a better player. I choose to inform you on soccer because I’ve played my whole life, from 5 years old until my senior year in high school, and its something I know about. The three main
At the end of the period my coach put me on defense. I said “coach I have 2 goals why do I have to play defense!”. But I ended up playing defense. My team scored 2 goals while I was on defense, and it became 7 to 1. Then my teammate Dominic shot one from the red line and it trickled into the net.
Soccer. It’s a physical sport with plenty of completion, and with that comes injuries. Good morning class, today I will be talking to you about the soccer of sport, and the commonly occurring within the game, as well as talking specifically about sprained ankles and meniscus tears, and the rehabilitation processes for the two. The most common injuries within the sport of soccer are: Ankle sprains, groin pulls, hamstring strains, shin splints, and knee injuries.
While I was in the car going to the game, I was thinking of what I should do when I get a hold of the ball. My mom has always wanted me to at least make one goal for the whole season, but I kept arguing with myself that I was not going to be able to do it. I finally arrive at the field and suddenly start sweating.
“Alyvia!” yelled Haley as she ran on the field to sub for me. I ran to the sidelines and hoped to get to play forward again. It was tied with under two minutes left. My team kept getting the ball down the field, but the goalie kept my team from
“ It's ok Amanda! You got this!” My coach had said. The ref blew her whistle indicating we can start. Maddie passed the ball to raina who passed it to maggie, making their way up the field towards the other goal. One of the girls from the other team stole the ball and came at me.
The audience went silent. The crowd locked their eyes’ on only two things, the soccer player and the ball. This was their last chance. If they score this penalty, they have a chance to move on into the finals. The player kept his attention on the ball. He ran towards it and kicked it with a powerful force, aiming it towards the soccer net. The audience threw their hands’ up with tears in their eyes’. The stadium now filled with passionate cheers as everyone jumped up and down from their seats. Soccer is the greatest discovery because; no other sport has the power to unite countries. It helps with promotion, which increases the financial situation of an economy. In addition, soccer is one of the fewer sports that does not discriminate. Anyone can enjoy the wonderful benefits of this sport.
We had just gotten off the bus at Benton High School and almost all the girls had to go to the bathroom, as usual. I never had to go after a long bus ride which was weird but whatever. After everyone had put their gear on Coach Watt yelled for us to start warming up. Jayden and I went to the goal as usual and did our ladders. We started to do a couple things on our own when the girls told us they were ready to do their normal warm-up shots on goal. Usually I went first since I was starting varsity, but I let Jayden go first because I was feeling a little sluggish. When she had taken a couple and was out of breath I subbed in. Most of the shots were relatively easy to get to. Cali Fournier had the hardest shot on the team easily. She was up
She told us how we were all going to be at different levels. Some people are weaker in one stroke than the other, but we had to learn to respect each person’s pace. We all have our “peak” at different times. Most of us hadn’t hit that place yet. She explained that we were placed by our times and the order was not changing. She knew how we were at our best and she knew when we were pushing ourselves. Barbara had to stay after practice to talk to the head of the board for acts of bullying. They told her that if it continued she would be kicked off the team. I think this message taught her a lesson. Practice for the rest the season ended up being very enjoyable. We had so much fun and many adventures to close off the season. Up to this day I'm still satisfied with the decision I made to talk to my coach. Her speech is one I won't forget.

People have always loved to play games. The human race has created hundreds of thousands of games to entertain themselves and to compete with one another. The most beloved games are those of physical sports. One of these sports, that has become a worldwide phenomenon, is the game soccer. The entire world gathers every four years to send out their best team, and to see which country is the ultimate champion. To play the game of soccer, there needs to be referees to ensure that the players are safe and are following the rules. Though this was once a highly respected position, in Virginia, working as a referee is no longer worth the time, due to a lack of respect, no support system, and the constant variations and changes to the rules.
The team mom said, “Girls, get ready. Make sure to move your feet, use strategy, and most importantly be patient. Go stretch over there and run around for a bit.” Everyone nods their heads as we head over to go warm up. As we warm up, we all do a little team pep talk. One of the girls, Elizabeth, says, “This
