In order for me to say what social category I identify with then I would like to define social category. Social category is a group of people who do not interact with each other but share similar characteristics. I actually identify with many social categories. The main one would be my race because I am African American. I also identify with those who have tattoos, piercings, and last I am a woman. The two most important categories to me would be the fact that I am African American and I am a woman. As we all know African Americans had a bad history. There has always been a time when we were looked down on mainly due to the color of our skin. She stopped us from riding that bus and the kids who did do that to us got suspended from the bus for the rest of the year. This was something we had never thought would happen and it was hard for us to deal with because we had never experienced such a thing. One last issue that I would like to hit on would be woman in society. Women are so limited to what they can and can’t do and that is based only on what society thinks. I think that me being an African American and a woman means I have to work even harder to prove myself. Majority of the time most women are treated as though they are less than a man and aren’t able to do what men can. In the end we are all able to do the same things especially if we go to school and get the same degree as a man. What actually makes society think that we are not as good as a man? I always wonder if it is something they came up with on their own, because some women are actually better at doing certain things than men are. It is not right for women to make less than men and they have the same degree, or when it comes to certain jobs they would prefer men over women when they both are very capable at doing it. This is discrimination and we should not have to deal with this. I just hope that as time goes on we are all treated equally and not judged based on our gender, race, culture
