Probably one of the more prevalent arguments in the past five to ten years is that of the effects of social media. Is it something we should avoid? Does it affect our personal lives? Is it a detrimental or advantageous tool for society? There’s a wide variety of opinions on the matter, and while many arguments have been made defending (and attacking) both sides of the controversy, research and experiences show that social media is an invaluable asset to our lives today.

As much as social media has managed to ruin our society, it plays a positive role for the public as well. Social media allowed people to use their networks as a form of reaching out to old friends and family across the world. With America being known as the melting pot of the world, our society has several people with family on the other side of the Earth. With social media in effect, this permits people to stay in touch with long lost loved ones and keep ties tight. Not only has it sanctioned friends and family to keep in touches but has granted people to relocate birth parents and unknown family members as well. Yes, social media has failed our society greatly but there is always a rainbow somewhere after a rainy day. Social media can play a positive role by bringing people back together.

If someone hacks a personal account of yours it can be brutal. They can steal personal information such as an address of your house. If they find out where you live they can rob you. They can also find out your credit card stamens and scam you for your credit. Not only can they do these terrible things if they hack your account but they also can steal you indent. If your identity is stolen not one is ever to prove if you are who you say you are. The issue you of privacy on social media are unheard of. Everything you say and do that you put out there for everyone to see is forever.
