How has social work evolved or changed for the better from the 1960s till present time?

This meek beginning social work had progressed into a professional service with treatment obligations in all patient care areas, helping patients ←and→ families to attain their highest level of adjustment/coping in society, endorsing vocational ←and→ psychosocial rehabilitation. Social workers developed implemented treatment approaches which addressed individual social difficulties work with acute/chronic medical conditions, dying patients, bereaved families. VA social workers were liable for ensuring continuity of care through the admission, evaluation, treatment, follow-up processes this consisted of coordinating discharge planning providing case management services based on the patients clinical community health social services

History serves to educate us about our past and guide the future. As social workers it is important to understand the history of our profession in order to appreciate how the current practices came into being and in turn how our history affects our current practice. To adequately serve the various populations, we must understand the historical oppression and discrimination they faced so we can provide culturally competent service delivery. This essay will compare and contrast the origins of micro and macro social work practice and how they are reflected in modern practice.

Social workers’ commitment to social justice means they want everyone to have a fair and equal opportunity to an assessment. In line with fairness, social workers should tell carers about their right to refuse an assessment as their permission, and not the person receiving care, is needed before the carer’s assessment can commence. In addition, social workers, bound by legislation regarding confidentiality and information sharing, must reserve the carer’s right to privacy whilst uphold their right to a fair hearing. This is achieved by only disclosing carer’s personal details to 3rd parties with consent, unless a safeguarding concern arises.

In 1917, as the United States entered World War I, Congress established a system that addressed Veterans benefits which included programs for disability compensation, insurance for service members and Veterans as well as rehabilitative treatments for those that were disabled (www.va.gov). Three years later, 3 separate federal agencies: the Veterans Bureau, Bureau of Pensions of the Interior Department and National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers were charged with administering these benefits and services (www.va.gov). Then, in 1930, President Herbert Hoover signed an Executive Order which consolidated these agencies to a federal administration level and created the Veterans Administration (www.va.gov). Almost seventy years later, in 1989, the Veterans Administration was then renamed the Department of Veterans Affairs (www.va.gov). The purpose for establishing the Department of Veterans Affairs (“VA”) has always been, since inception, and remains to this day, to provide a comprehensive system of assistance for Veterans (www.va.gov). As noble a purpose as the VA was intended, the VA could not escape the bureaucratic dysfunction that has rocked the very core of the military community, the nation and the Western allies with outrage and an immediate call for remedy.

Congress established the Veterans Bureau in 1921 to provide assistance to World War I Veterans, however it was abolished nine years later due to corruption. The Veterans Administration (VA) was created in 1930 to take its place and care for Veterans. In the efforts to establish the VA to assist veterans was still not successful the second time around. Ten thousand WWI veterans protested in Washington 1932 after not receiving war bonuses they were promised and in 1945 VA Administrator Frank Hines resigned (Pearson, 2014). In 1947 a government commission on reforming government uncovers enormous waste, duplication and inadequate care (Pearson, 2014). In 1981, in Wadsworth Veterans Medical Center in Los Angeles a former Marine who had rammed the hospital 's lobby with his Jeep and fired shots into the wall after claiming the VA had failed to attend to his service-related disabilities and committed suicide (Pearson, 2014).

The Department of Veterans Administration of better known as the Veterans Affairs, (VA), was created on March 15, 1989 by President Herbert Hoover after he signed Executive Order 5398, and elevated the Veterans Bureau to a federal administration, and now operates the country’s largest health care system. With over 1,400 hospitals, the VA is responsible for giving federal benefits to veterans and their family. They also, judging by your physical and mental abilities, see if you can handle being out in the social life and or able to even get out of the hospital until the veteran they are talking about and judging in a little room full of doctors and government executives, improves or shows signs

I like your thesis statement. It is true to reform a program, jobs, but where by few employers are willing to hire them because of their criminal record they will end up right back to the prison. Like you said after they finished a person sentence and reintegrating back into to society get a job and make a living there will be less likely to go back to prison. Again finding a job will reduce overcrowded and save money for the state

At the time the goals were established, the programs were managed by three fractured agencies: The Veterans Bureau, the Bureaus of Pensions of the Interior Department and the National Home for the Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. The first of two agency consolidations took place in 1921 creating the Veterans Bureau (VB) (The Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015a). The new organization combined all WWI services with the Public Health Service Hospitals. In 1930, the recently formed Veterans Bureau would be elevated to federal agency status and the VA is born. The purpose of the agency at this time was to “consolidate and coordinate government activities affecting war veterans” (The Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015b). Included in the first consolidation was the transfer of the 1,400 nurses working within the Public Health Service Hospitals to the Veterans Administration. With the addition, the VA Nursing Service now employed 2,500 registered nurses (The Department of Veterans Affairs, 2015b).

The paper will address the history of social welfare of veterans the social, economic struggles of departure from the armed services to become a productive member of society discussed some of the stats on veteran employment, health issues, and homelessness elucidated some the services veteran received after their enlistment from active duty. Therefore, the training, education provided from the DoD (Department of Defense) to ensure that veterans received the best care, adequate services that any veteran who was in need will have a professionally educated resourceful social worker.

In this paper, I will be discussing of an organization that caters social services and contributes to the social work field. In addition, I will go in details where the organization is financed from and what is the mission of the organization. Moreover, I will discuss of the structure that the organizations conduct to accomplished their missions and explain the organization 's different services provided under their organizations umbrella. Furthermore, I will discuss of the organization accountability to their services, overall impact, and the power in organization. Lastly, I will explanatory the workers role in the organizations and discuss of my overall experience referring to my future social work profession.

The history of human services is more than 150 years of old and is closely attached to benevolent offerings and religious organizations. Human Service stretch to feeding the underprivileged, helping the sick, and assisting those less fortunate the list is vast. Human Services took a more professional role in 60’s to provide assistance for those in need. In the past the western beliefs has influenced the way things operate for the present and the future of the Human Services Field. In the past services were based on a person’s demographics such as age, ability to work, health status, and the availability of work.

In this essay I will be giving a brief introduction to the history of social work practice, by introducing the laws that contributed to its development. Explaining how the sub divisions divide into specialism 's within the variety of social work settings, using both public and private sectors to show understanding. Also, demonstrate knowledge of different legislation that has been introduced to social work practice over the past 25 years and why it is used in particular areas. Then to finalise using protection issues, how to justify why legislation was used by assessing the likely impact of results.
