Sociocultural influences evolve from a consumer's formal and informal relationship with other people. These influences in regards to our company include personal influence, family influence, and culture. Personal influence is when a customer’s purchases are often influenced by the views, opinions, and behaviors of others. An example of this is word-of-mouth activity. If a customer likes our product and they start talking to other prospective customers than those prospective buyers will either be influenced to buy the product or they will be deterred from trying it. Many potential customers tend to follow opinion leaders. These are individuals who directly and indirectly influence others opinions based on theirs. Our opinion leaders would be the customers who initially try our product even though we are a newer business. These customers did not need another person's opinion before they tried the baked goods we have to offer. These initial customers are going to have a large impact on whether or not our business gets a good brand image and whether others will follow their lead and also try our treats. …show more content…
We want our customers to talk about our brand in a positive light and influence their friends to also try the product we are offering. This will increase our business traffic if our satisfied customers can influence others to check our store out. We will do our best to avoid negative information from spreading by providing excellent customer service. If a customer is not satisfied we have to either provide a new dessert to them or figure out a way to make their experience with our business a better one. Negative information can damage our brand image and could cause untrue rumors. This would be devastating to our company and would prevent future business if customers think negatively about our
Question III-B: Explain the philosophical, historical, and sociocultural influences on contemporary educational theory and practice. As educators, we have our own ideas about teaching and learning but we still have pioneer mentors who contribute to the development of our teaching philosophy. These pioneers developed constructive ideas about schools, curriculum, and the methods of instruction we continue to use in today’s classrooms (Ornstein, 2008). It is crucial that we understand the philosophical, historical, and sociocultural influences as we develop curriculum that is relevant and applicable in today’s educational settings.

Influence is something that most human beings have been affected by. The way one’s parents behave might affect how the child behaves. Social influence is the thought of acceptance, and the human behavior of how one follows everything that others do just to be accepted, and most times the effect of rejection can be harmful.

It really is pretty amazing to witness and be aware of sociological concepts in our day-to-day lives. Sociology concepts appear all around us since humans and human organizations are formed through social interactions. Over break, I noticed many sociological concepts but the one that stands out most to me is the appearance management that takes place in a customer service oriented work place. This interaction occurred between employees and their supervisors. I am a Helping Hands employee at Wegmans. Wegmans is a grocery store in the Mid-Atlantic states that is known for its customer service. It is in this customer service setting that employees manage their appearances. In order to be seen as a good employee to supervisors, employees utilize
In our society influence, is the power a person (or group) holds over a general population. Positive influence uses the power held over the population for an overall good, whether this be by helping others, being inspiring and well spoken. Positive influence is demonstrated by powerful people ,up to whom the population looks and aspires to be like. They display the traits above by creating and donating to charities, participating in social movements and challenging not only themselves but others to be better people . These traits influence society positively because when the general public see these idols and celebrities doing these things they are more likely to mimic them, and in turn will grow to become model citizens in the same
I analyzed the data using the constant comparative method as found within the field of sociology. The constant comparative method consists of analyzing a single interview for themes, then using these themes to analyze the remaining interviews (Boeije 2002). The interviews are also analyzed against themselves to discover new themes and alter the beginning themes. In addition, the interview data will be compared between the gender of the interviewees, the roles of the interviewees, and the phase during which they were interviewed. The observation data is analyzed in a similar manner, however instead of comparing interviews the different observation sessions will be compared to first the initial observation session and then between days of the week and time of the day.
I decided to choose Chapter 14: Social Psychology for my chapter evaluation paper because I love to study people and am interested in learning how they are influenced by different factors such as friend groups and society. I hope to learn a lot from this chapter because it influences our lives everyday and can influence how we behave and act. I want to learn more about attributions and how they affect one’s behavior along with common stereotypes. The first set of people featured in this chapter includes Joe and Suzanne. Joe and Suzanne’s relationship plays a huge role in social psychology since online dating is becoming more and more common in today’s world. I can relate to their relationship because a dating application is how I met my
Completing the personal cultural survey I was able to identify the way I approach my life through my eyes. Since completing this survey I have seen my worldview through my lens and the way I approach people, and my way of life. Furthermore, I have identified that my numbers were very similar to one another, and that my average score was (4). Thinking upon this I was pondering why my average score was a (4) for everything. Maybe I grade myself too harshly or become too analytical with this test because I am a very detailed person.
While genetic management of foods can be traced throughout history, the modern phenomena of GMOs and transgenic plants have come to light in just the last few decades. In today’s modern society, the science of biotechnology and the process of genetic modification are developing throughout the planet. As of 2004, 8.25 million farmers in 17 countries were using genetically modified crops. Today, approximately two- thirds of all food offered in supermarkets has been genetically modified. However, the subject of GMO’s is one of great controversy. Although this modern invention does have some positive results on the food industry it also has brought some negative consequences along with it.
The Cultural Strain Theory states that persons of different cultures have a harder time developing relationships, than persons of the same culture. There are many different theories that reveal the terms and aspects that are needed to develop a relationship. Reducing one’s uncertainty towards the other, having low levels of anxiety, and being able to relate to the relationship partner are all vital to developing a relationship. There are three theories that address these three relationship components. Uncertainty Reduction Theory, Anxiety Management Theory, and the Relational Theory are the theories that I used to develop the Cultural Strain Theory.
Many sociocultural factors influence our recreation and leisure choices in society. To further comprehend the influences, I interviewed a child and a disabled person on their recreational participation and use the results to compare and contrast to Kraus’. There are several benefits and limitations attributing to each particular socioculture in our society. Participation in certain activities may be of interest for a lifetime and some may change or evolve depending on the circumstances. Age factor influences a child’s behavior, motives, patterns, and values in correlation to their recreational or leisure time activities. The child interviewee’s main age factors consisted of whether the experience was indoors or outdoors and whether or not
Just like what we see, hear, and do everyday, our sociological factors also have effects on our perceptions of the world and things around us. An individual’s social location can lead him to wealth and success or prevent him from them. The positive consequences of being social animals lead human beings to become more social as time goes by, and symbolic interaction among individuals help us connect and understand each other in a society. Through the lenses of such sociological theories, sociological imagination “enables us to grasp history and biography and the relations between the two within society” and helps us understand the connections between social structures and our individual lives (Milgram).
The sociocultural theory was developed by a theorist named Lev Vygotsky. Vygotsky was born in 1896 and was from the former Soviet Union. He was a psychologist who had an abundance of ideas and put them into many theories and writings. Although Vygotsky died from tuberculosis at the young age of thirty-eight, his most prominent work was done in a short period of ten years. When he died in 1934, the Soviet Union held most of his work and it was not until about 1960 that his work was translated into English. Currently in the education field, Vygotsky’s main work on the sociocultural theory is getting a lot of attention.
