Ever since I read the novel Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill, my interest in University of Chicago took root. Every aspect, from its renown Core Curriculum to its extensive research opportunities and its diverse student body, readily matches the setting in which I hope to immerse myself over the next four years.
It still amazes me how I can major in Cellular and Molecular Biology, explore the city of Chicago, and spend a semester abroad. Hopefully, I will one day be able to take advantage of UChicago’s many research opportunities by participating at the BioPhysics Core Facilities because I want to study genome sequences with state of the art technology. Abroad, I hope to take the Paris: Astronomy program. It’s thrilling to know that I can go to Paris to fulfill requirements for a Minor in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Not only am I awed at the many research opportunities, but also by UChicago’s renown Core Curriculum. Specifically, I am eager to take the course Mind in the Social Sciences of the Core Curriculum because I find it exciting to explore long-standing questions about human experience. Moreover, I admire how every University of Chicago student takes Core Curriculum classes to create a learning environment that profoundly mimics the real world. I would likewise enjoy sharing classes to explore various perspectives on a shared topic.

I am attracted to the diverse group of people whom the University wholeheartedly accommodates. I also feel that my background as an American Hindu and Sri Lankan will allow me to provide an innovative perspective to this diverse community. It particularly intrigues me to take a linguistic course on Tamil, which very few universities offer so that I can communicate fluently with my family. I also want to join many extracurricular activities such as the Women's Tennis team to represent the Maroons
I am confident that I am a highly motivated candidate for College of the Mainland’s Collegiate High School program. I want to challenge myself in my education as well as strengthen my character. Education is very important to my family as well as myself. I have grown to be much more motivated, focused, and determined in the past year. My grades have improved immensely, as I’ve personally realized how important and necessary it is in today's society to have a good education.
Through my current experiences serving the less fortunate, volunteering at Etobicoke General Hospital, and participating in the Syrian Refugee Committee, the importance and benefit of scientific research has become clear. I enjoy challenges because it is through these trials that our motivation and intellect are improved. I would greatly accept the challenge The Helix Summer Science Institute offers, because I would have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the effects of genetic mutations in conserved human disease genes, and the importance and use of C. elegans as a model organism. This program is an exceptional foundational opportunity for the preparation process towards medical
I find the field of biology fascinating and I thoroughly enjoy learning the subject. It is an ever changing and developing subject with new advancements every day. These advancements can change people’s lives for the better and I want to be part of that.
UChicago’s ideology, like my own, is applied to panoply of disciplines. The Core would allow me to attain a broad knowledge base, while the flexibility of the curriculum would allow me to explore novel topics
The Integrated Life Sciences Honors program (ILS) is a distinguished two-year living-learning program for students with exceptional academic talents that focuses on preparing students in all aspects of biological research and biomedicine. ILS offers accelerated and advanced education in the life sciences while also emphasizing nationally recognized innovations to the training. Participating in ILS has allowed me to live and work closely with many intelligent and incredible peers, each bringing a different perspective. Furthermore, the unique approach and exclusive courses offered by ILS have helped me to develop a more holistic understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of the
Hello! My name is Coty Huneau, I am going to be a student in your Tuesday/Thursday class from 9:40-11:00 am starting in the winter semester. I have a strong interest in Astrophysics and Astronomy. I have a big interest in Join Astronomy club. I would like some information on it.
Girls Like Us is an intimate portrayal concerning four girls who grew up all with different ethnic backgrounds and various forms of parental guidence. Anna Chau is Vietnames with strict parents and good beliefs, Lisa Bronca is a Caucasion Catholic, De'Yonna Moore is African-American with strong goals who lives with her Grandma and Raelene Cox is a young white girl who comes from a broken home with little parental guidence. Girls Like Us shows examples of structural functionism, and conflict theory, as well as symbolic interactionalism. This movie really intersted me because I actually got to see each of these girls grow up. This film
A program that is oriented around illuminating the complex problems that surround our world on a daily basis really connects to what I hope to receive in my college experience. This program incorporates progressive ways of teaching principal
Biology affects many aspects of our life and is the key foundation for medical education and health careers. At USC, the rigorous academics will help me to understand the workings of life, down to molecular and DNA level. Biology has many ground-breaking discoveries that shape the world. I want to devote myself to biological research to make a difference in life. My life goal is that one day, cancers can be conquered, life can be saved, and hope can be renewed.
My journey through my undergraduate career has not been smooth. During my freshmen year, I performed very well in my classes. With this newfound confidence, I decided to take part in more extracurricular activities during my sophomore year. Growing up in a small, predominantly white community, I was rarely exposed to diversity. Thus, in my college experience, I hoped to learn more about people from different backgrounds and connect with students that have a similar culture to my own. Fortunately, Loyola University Chicago’s diverse environment allowed me to do this and I became more involved in Loyola’s South Asian Student Alliance (SASA) and Hindu Student Organization (HSO). I also began working so I could help my parents with college finances.
When I first I entered the classroom, I perceived about twenty students who appeared to be “real” City College students. I suddenly felt my stomach drop at new setting: “Please let me survive...” were my thoughts as I only revealed a nonchalant expression on my face. Yet, as each week passed, I realized that it was no different than being in a high school classroom, except with very in-depth, but intriguing lectures. I sat there, amazed with the people who stood behind the podium talking, five feet away from me, ranging from graduate students researching stress on the endoplasmic reticulum to a CEO from Calico Labs. I also learned about prions and the newest advanced technology known as CRISPR; these topics were ones that I’ve never known exist but were fascinating nonetheless. There were many paths that could be touched upon for
I am especially interested in several of your courses that focus on comprehension strategy instruction and accommodating the needs of diverse learners. (Should I have said something that ties in with the first
Many individuals find astronomy interesting, making it easy to get swept away in its wonders. There is much more to astronomy than counting stars, as one can see as they admire the beauty of the pictures in a textbook or looking up at the night sky. By reading this literature,
My interest in the Foothill Honors Institute is significant. Over the years I have struggled academically because of personal issues going on at home. Although this past year I have improved significantly in my writing skills, and overall determination. I feel that the Honors Institute would help me grow even further, by challenging me academically to think critically and thoroughly. I also would love to be apart of a network of people who enjoy being challenged, and are connected by this ambition. This program would impact me in multiple ways, but I also feel like the program would benefit from having me in it. As a first generation college student of color I feel that I have a lot of knowledge to bring to the
The graduate students’ population at the North Dakota State University is made up of 25% of International Students. I fancy my chances of gaining admission given my experience and academic achievements coupled with the school’s high population of International Students. Also, the course outline perfectly matched my career prospects and research interests.
